@christianz2010 Weed is illegal because industrial hemp was going to kick cotton's ass for the fiber of choice for clothing and rope and whatnot. The cotton grower's lobby demonized marijuana, then it was banned in 1937.

@christianz2010 Techniacally its not illegal. You have to have the proper permit to have it. Without the permit, its illegal. Hence the Scheduling system of the DEA. They first tried a tax stamp method... without pot stamps, you couldn't have pot. They never printed post stamps, so no one could have it.
All of this loveliness was passed by congress and signed off by FDR.
