  • Loved the opening when I was a kid. Now looks like an acid trip

  • I think the six dislikes failed English.

  • lmfao

  • Toke up and watch this video, it'll be trippy as hell...

But you don't have to take MY word for it...

  • I learned so many neat things from this show. What do kids learn today? Don't bite your friends, just saying.

  • Thx to Reading Rainbow, it increased the creative side of my mind. I will always be thankful for that!!

  • Who's the singer? It sounds like Diana Ross lol Does anyone know?

  • @latino6604 Tina Fabrique was the singer until 1999. Then after that, the song was sung by Chaka Khan.

  • this makes feel fuzzy inside. i like this theme better than the old one;

the shows still good today. :D

  • Check Out my site rogerreadingrainbow. com I designed the original animation computer system used to film the Feature Books for the first five seasons. The system executed those famous camera pans and zooms over the illustrations of the books. i.e. Abiyoyo, Arthur's Eyes, Bringing the Rain to Kapiti Plain...etc.etc.

    Roger Holden

  • Man, even the animation back then was phenomenal.

  • sooooo gooooood!!!!!!

  • I always liked the part where that sailor would pull the ship in with one hand

  • ah reading rainbow i just watched it to hear the beginning song and then after the show was over i would color with my purple crayon

of course that was in the year 2000

but in the 80's when people actually watched it..idk

  • Thank you Reading Rainbow, for teaching how to have an imagination <3

  • I wish they had more TV shows like this...about imagination/adventure/etc.

The closest thing kids have these days is like...Dora (which I find pretty annoying actually lol).

  • You can't beat the 80s (remember The Neverending Story? :)

  • @MusesMetaphorium The Neverending Story is the BEST!!!! That was my all time favorite movie back when I was little! Wait..... it still is!! HAHA

  • Man I noticed reading rainbow is Gone maybe the guy who wuz the actor died or got sick of acting in kids shows :/ but IDK sooooooooo ummmmmmmmm IDK

  • @Parkster175 he didn't die! they just couldn't afford to produce the show anymore. there's a new reading rainbow in the works, though, with LeVar Burton still at the helm =)

  • Reading Rainbow.

With LeVar Burton aka "The Reading Rainbow Guy" aka Geordi La Forge from Star Trek

  • @tonyescobar71 And what taught you how to spell & format your words today? Maybe you need to watch a few reruns of this show AGAIN...

  • its in a book

  • im 14 and i love the 80s when my parents tell me stories about it, but for some reason this intro makes me want to read now if they had a show like this they would prob put a stupid animal singing some POP song or try to be "Gangster" and dont worry guys im black/italian but anyways it would make kids turn the channel idk why they think all kids like Rap Hip Hop and POP it just makes them change the channel and the shows the kids do watch are fucing retarded they dont learn at all

  • The greatest intro. Way better than the newer intro that one sucks

  • @EntrepreneurLoveJr Yea, I used to get angry when it came on, because I was liek where is the old one?? I was very observant for my age of 8.

  • @Dicklle34 Yeah but if you go on here and watch the wack ass intro you will see so many other people saying its the best. what the heck do they know they must be too young that one sucks...they should have never changed it.

  • @EntrepreneurLoveJr And just lok at the like dislike comparrison its no contest. they have half dislike and then some likes when this one has hundreds of likes to only a few dislikes

  • OMFGGG I MISS THIS SO EFFING MUCH!

  • Beacuse of Reading Rainbow I am an imaginative person who loves to read and I will forever be thankful. Too bad kids nowadays don't get to experience the magic of Reading Rainbow.

  • This makes me feel sad because i was so little when this use to come on.

  • Duh da DA!

  • heck, yea!!!! nostalgia!!!!!!

  • I love this show to bad it off the air. eventho i read in levar burton wiki that he trying to bring it back. Takes me back to my child hood.

  • omg! they need to bring this back! lol

  • so many memories from this show I am 27 and still love it!!..LOL

  • sooo why hasnt anybody ever written a book, about a butterfly that seems to bend the fabric of time and space, to create things out of know where? i know id read it.

  • @thegreatxanzavier we're waiting for you to write it

    : )

  • the dog-starfish thing always confused me

  • LOL I tried to read, but because I was Hispanic growing up in a all white school I was discouraged from reading , or being allowed to be in book clubs. Sad

  • @TurtleDove81 :-(

  • Doo-dooo-doo-doo-doopy-doo-doooo~ :D

  • i forgot all about this show until i heard a song with a similar pulsating intro. now the memories just keep comming back to me. RhettandLink do an awesome job at this too! 5 stars for the memories!

  • What song had the similar pulsating intro?

  • i wish i knew :/ just got done trying to find it.. if i ever figure it out, i'll tell ya, but for now, it remains a mystery.

  • i wish i knew :/ i can't figure it out, so when i do, i'll tell you first ^_^

  • loved watching this many years ago on pbs when i was like 8 or 9 and i'm 26 now.

  • I remember when my mom made us watch this when we first started going to school in the late 90's. Miss those days.

  • when I was young I thought Lavar Burton was actually blind (from his star-trek character) and that him being the host of a children's reading show was some kind of wonderful irony, like even a blind man can enjoy the magic of reading! lol

  • XD My dad used to watch Star Trek. He laughed so hard the day I walked in an shouted "It's the guy from Reading Rainbow!" at our television screen while he was watching it.

This song brings me back to kindergarten. I just had a flashback of chocolate milk and Nilla wafers...we used to watch it during snack. That was a good...15 years ago. Wow. I loved this show :D

  • No he only wears a visor on StarTrek just as a prop

  • LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Man this show brings back alot of memorys, especially the guy that does the intro for the show. LOL

  • God bless Reading Rainbow for instilling in me a sense of wonderment that only books can provide.

  • Damn books. I only look at T.V.! >:(

  • YES.

  • man damn i really didnt watch tha show unless i was bored but i rememba the words 2 tha song like it was yesterday damn i could cry sittin here rememory tha 90s 92 tha year i was born

  • I cannnnnnnn be anything!!! What do they tell kids these days? You too could sell sex appeal like the jonas brothers or miley cyrus!!

  • Kids are so spoiled these days. :( Breaking the tradition....

  • I can't believe how much I hate this damn opening song, especially this freaking synthesizers at the beginning and the end of the intro but it is still so unbelievably catchy...

  • TUN-NUT-TUN

  • man i remember hearing this in like the early eighties i love this show

  • i want to watch reading rainbow now

  • I miss this show so much. Oh how I spent my seemingly never-ending childhood watching cool PBS shows on weekday afternoons.

  • Yeah, I totally miss it too... leaves a tingle in the spine when you re-watch this after 15 years. It was great being a kid wasn't it?

  • the bestest

  • @meanmoegel87 reading rainbow took place in 1983-2006 but i only remember it in the 90;s lol

  • Oh right, I forgot! I kinda only watched it for a year ('93), then I moved to another place where I didn't get the signal... oh well, guess what's best is that way. Boy, it's too bad that kids these days don't get the kind of stuff we got to see.

  • yeah im like man 90's cartoons are the best and 10 yr old neice goes no there not fanboy and chum chum is...

    im like wtf???

just shook my head in disgust

  • RIP reading rainbow...you were there for me growing up

  • LMAO!!!

  • I remember watching this in 1st grade back in 2003.

  • This was an awesome intro. It would've been funny if there was an episode for the book Where The Wild Things Are.

  • ill

  • Holy crap I heard they stopped broad casting reading rainbow. This just makes me sad D:

    RIP reading rainbow.

  • haha this show is the reason to why i am allowed to skip a grade. its not about the graphics or anything so stop hating.

  • RIP Reading rainbow

  • This show is probably the reason i was one of the top English and Reading students :p

  • Whenever I see this opening it makes me warm and happy and I just think back to my childhood. All is right with the world....

And then I remember that I'm old now and everything sucks.

  • too bad for u

  • @smokesdawg88 Yup. That's how I feel today on LeVar Burton's 54th B-Day and my 23rd.

  • trippy

  • I grew up with this show, and now all I see is a really bad acid trip.

  • LOL, me too

  • Oh wow! I love the old theme with 2D animation better than the new CGI one.

I still remember the 1st episode entitled: "Three by the Sea" - but I can only recall the ending. I hope it's posted somewhere here on YT.

Btw -- has anyone ever noticed on 0:16 - the dragon toasting the marshmallow on the knight's lance tip and the king feed it to the dragon? It's only a couple frames long and nearly impossible to notice unless you frame step thru it, or you've watch this hundred times as a child! XD

  • Actually I'm wrong! I looked again where the king takes the marshmallow and eats it before the dragon did! lol

No wonder it look depressed! XD

Also in 0:10 the dragon gets smacked by the princess for staring her in the face! Haha! the princess got some fight in her!

  • Is this the orginal?

  • Yup

  • I was born in '80, and this reminds me of when the Challenger exploded. My mom was crying and then I watched Reading Rainbow.

  • This song DEFINES my childhood!!!

I still think the dog star is a bit creepy though.

  • good ol days...shows today aren't what they used to be...

I can go Twice as high....

    Take a Look, It's in a Book

    Reading Rainbow

Friends to Know, and Ways to Grow

    Reading Rainbow

    I...Can be ANYTHING!!!

    Take a Look, It's in a Book

    Reading Rainbow(x5)

  • Great educational show. I remember watching this in first grade in like 92 or so. They don't make good educational shows like this anymore or ones with catchy themes like this either.

  • whoa ur right though this original opening way better and more crazy

  • wow flashback to like 2nd grade.

  • I used to watch this in school back in first grade in 1994. I love this show and I always looked forward to watching it when I was a child.

  • i know right i watched this everyday in kindergarten

  • I used to watch this when I was little!!!

  • did yall know this is chaka khan sing this

  • No The singer for this is the initial (Very 1st) version of the theme and it was sang by singer Tina Fabrique)

  • READING RAINBOW!! YEY! aha. i remember every Thursday we would watch these in 1st grade. and it would be like.. the highlight of my week :D

when i saw this pop up on my related videos, i looked at it and was like.. "OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

because it's just so awesome (:

  • I was always freaked out by the thought of a cartoon butterfly tearing the fabric of reality and turning me into some ugly-ass Thomas Jefferson character or a neon astronaut.

  • aawh i remember this 0:

omg i kant believe as a second grader i thought this was a dumb song... but now aawh tears)= childhood ): omg

  • man I get tears watching that. So nostalgic...haven't see this in years

  • They get rid of the good stuff and put dumb stuff up lol

  • That was the best show :DD

  • Try 25...

  • i remember this show...i feel old now at 17

  • try almost turning 21

  • I'm 17 & I used to adore this show, they really need to re-run it at least... I'd still watch it :D <3

  • even though i love this show..i think the person who made the intro was tripping on shrooms...lol

  • Why is it that even when I'm an adult, I have urges to go back and watch children's shows?

I guess it just goes to show how privileged kids live in such a bright and optimistic world, and I wish I could go back and taste some of that.

  • Reading Rainbow has been on WVIZ at 1:30 in the afternoon for as long as I can remember...

  • Reliving how life was so simple and priceless. How I wish we could turn the clock back around. We as kids who watched this were fortunate. Too bad it's not like this anymore. Thanks for posting!

  • The good old days ;_;

    I'm getting choked up ;_;

  • I think they recently stopped showing this or maybe the broadcast is just random now whenever the network has free space but Levar Burton was the man

  • so much memories

  • This song is .....pure nostalgia. I watched this when I was super young and thinking back I now realize how innocent and naive I was and how interesting EVERYTHING was to me. Boredom didn't exist to me yet!

  • I WAS RAISED ON THIS SHOW!!!!! LeVar Burton is still my hero!!!! I'm 21 now and would still watch this!

  • OH MY GOD. You have no idea how many dormant chemical reactions that song stirs in my mind. I used to watch that show CONSTANTLY. Christ...the song is actually pretty good, isn't it? Interesting. When I was a kid, I never comprehended it as anything more than painfully catchy.

  • Jok ... I was born at the turn of 79/80 literally Jan 1 & I couldn't have said your statement better myself!

  • i'm 14 and i remember this intro i use to sing it Lol XD

  • thanks for uploading!

  • damn the lady that sang the song

    got vocals

  • omg i loved this show

  • this makes me miss my childhood even more

  • Me too. Good times indeed.

  • oh man i know :(

  • You are so right. The best TV shows came out over 20 years ago. Kids today have no idea what really good TV is, or what it was like to have less than 5 TV channels. Such good times.

  • i'll drink to thatt

  • i agree with you

  • best show EVER!

  • i dont know any one who dislikes this song it is the best it reminds me of the good old days

  • LOVE IT

  • I still see this on TV, but it's the new opening =\
