You never know when or where your words will light a fire!
When my little girl (from age 15 months on up to about age 5) heard this song, she would sing and dance like no body's business. It was the sweetest thing you ever saw!
Now, when I remind her of this.......she still giggles. This is a classic as far as I am concerned. My little girl is now 34 and about to deliver my FIRST grandson. Guess what our theme song will be?
@houndlady1 - Love it! Reminds me of my Daddy! We used to take the back roads into the town next to ours, and we would sing and dance in the car to oldies, and especially Dr. Hook! I am now 36, and have his only grandson! How ironic??? I will have to pass the torch, since Daddy went to his Heavenly home in 2007, but songs like this bring back so many memories of him. He left me with a legacy, and an appreciation for GOOD MUSIC!!!!

Ok this song was one of bad songs on the flip side of a 45RPM on the flip side of the 45 was a great song.Called "Sharing the night together". I looked up "You make my pants want to get up and dance" just to see if YouTube had it,And BING! my pants got up and dance!! Wasn't there another version with "you make my pants want to get up and dance / you make my Levi's rise" ? Or was that just junior high erection humor we used to sing on band trips?

Ya gotta love them. We actually do a line dance to this at the senior center. We grew up in a rockin' era and we're still rockin'. I hope the next generation has as much fun as we did and still do!!!
do the musicians today have as much fun as these guys did while performing? i mean that as an honest question. when you go to a sold out concert are the singers actually HAPPY to be there?? seems more like they are terrified of the crowd and wish they had somewhere else to be.
@judiekleng I think it may have sounded like 578 times, but no way. The song runs 2:19, thus 578 times would have taken 22.3 hours back to back without any dead air between.. But who's counting - it's a great cut by the Hook.
@50srockandroll Well, it sure seemed like it, just saying....But he still hums it when he comes to dinner five times a week...hey, thanks for doing all the arithmetic sp? We've had a lot of fun with it anyway...

They still do small town tours together. Im from Alberta, Canada and they did a show a little while ago in a bar where im from and seem to pop up every couple yrs at the same bar. I missed it but heard it was really good.
I think what "Woo" is trying to say is that their fame hasn't carried down past their own time -- which, though it breaks my heart, is mostly true. You'll find tons of young Elvis, Beatles, and Stones fans, but you don't get that kind of cross-generational fandom with Dr. Hook. You *might* get a glimmer of recognition for "The Cover of the Rolling Stone", but that's about as much as the average person under 30 knows of them.
Dennis Locorriere has an awesome following of all ages. I know kids as young as 9 who regularly attend his shows because their folks had Hook stuff so theyvre fairly well versed with it. And folk like Niki , Julianne ,Keeley etc range from about 17 to 22 and try to get to every gig on his many tours. His audience has a very diverse range of ages there and Magic 11.52 Radio plays Hook stuff every day and every single show plays their tracks.
Mind you, I think that is a crying shame -- not only because Dr. Hook is one of the best damn bands of their generation (heck, of the 20th Century), but also because their music has never been more relevant. Their crazy humor and cock-eyed way of looking at the world has a message that's well-worth listening to in today's world -- namely, that the establishment sucks and times can be hard, but if you keep life fun, everything will work out in the end.
You're absolutely correct when you say it's a crying shame. Dr. Hook was gigantic influence in their day, but so was Elvis and the Beatles and the Stones, they just haven't held their value to enough people over the past 20 years.
Woo, if I came off pissy, I apologize. I was really more shocked than anything else.
