i also recommend a program called Spybot Search & Destroy, it has a tiny program that comes with it called TeeTimer, protects your system for programs to make registry changes without your knowledge and it ask you to accept/deny the changes :)
I use those too, one time programs.. but i also use another program on top of that called XP-AntiSpy which is an awesome program, it disable lots of windows crap and makes it MORE secure overall.
