  • Who else is here cause of the ygo abridged version?

  • Always makes me think of freaks and geeks

  • known from southpark ;)

  • This song is very peaceful

  • The greatest voice in rock n' roll.

  • We did this song for choir in 1982 for my high school, open house night. It got me in so much trouble because I had to sing soprano's part and I kept singing tenor. My choir teacher Ms.

    bush kept yelling at me.

  • @edmund6565 holy crap you read my mind

  • I'm 67 years old, two years ago my wife gave me a ticket to these guys in concert for Fathers' Day. 30 minutes into that night I realized I was born 15 years too soon. These guys were still great, sign of real and enduring talent.

  • @1:20

  • STYX and QUEEN are my favorites

  • Same situation

  • @ashadeyfigure same age

  • this happens to be one of the songs my generation (14 yr olds) will sing to during school and have smiles on our faces. It is a really good song and is that kind of song all generations should know and love, just like mine.

  • went to see styx about 5 weeks ago in the uk .. although they were good i still miss dennis de youngs vocals

  • I've seen them with and with out Denis-love him & miss him in the band. They still kick ass live thoough!

  • Nothing beats this music for sure.

  • Styx's "Come Sail Away" sounds good unplugged.

  • here is a better version of this song being sung. Brimstoneutah

  • Just saw Dennis De Young in concert here in Montreal. Awesome, and still sounds the same.

  • They have only improved as musicians over the many years since we used to sing their songs like anthems as young people. Now, at our ages we "get" what we didn't back when we were younger and in these economic times, songs like "Blue Collar Man" finally come into 20/20 focus. Pure gold as a band!!

  • YGOTAS. Nyeh! ;)

  • I see that 625 people here GET IT! 8 people don't!

  • This is a great work!.. maybe Meadowbrook (NH) this summer,, if Tommy 'I don't like Mr. Roboto' Shaw can bring "My Band" (his words; late 90' tour, Christina River, Wilmington, DE) and Dennis DeYoung shows up to play.

  • Is this MTV Unplugged?

  • good musicians..never was aware..

  • What performance is this, where, when?

  • hey uh how about u shut the fuck up lil wayne is the shit and so is this fuck just cuz its original doesnt make it good or highway blue by gay as beethoven would be the shit but no no one listens to his gay ass so... your wrong

  • Bearing in mind all good music is very much personal and it's merits and meanings are best left to the individual listener isn't arguing over individual bands kind of pointless? For the record I like anything where I feel I'm seeing dedication and effort at work regardless of it's genre. It's why I don't care for most modern mainstream music as I feel it's mass produced and very generic. It's not 'food' just bubblegum and bland bubblegum at that.

  • Thumbs up 4 the Bro-Code

  • wow check out BRIMSOTNE UTAH singer singing this song... COME SAIL AWAY!~

  • @angus4463 How old are you?

  • I think some people are so silly....this song has a great line " I think of childhood friends and the dreams we had"....who cares who's better...Queen, Styx, really, they're both good....

  • 7 kesha fans....

  • OK we all know he D beonged in another area just not Styx..Their ain't no leprachaun

  • just remebered cartman sings this song

  • If you want to see the only authentic note for note electronic sheet music of this song synchronized with the orginal 1977 audio recording by Styx, then visit the virtuosoism channel.

  • Why does Tommy look so pissed at Dennis?

  • @brentsapp25 Yea, a bit tense there I'd say.

  • yes my favorite song about space aliens

  • YOU are a BADASS!

  • My family only remembers this classic song at Sea World, this song was part of the show......what a classic to have in our thoughts!!

  • 1979 - Greenville Memorial Auditorium, Greenville SC - was standing about 6' from the stage when the first bars of this one began and Dennis DeYoung and a white baby grand began rising up from under the stage. Awesome concert, awesome memories.

  • If you get to see Dennis deYoung's concert (with an orchestra), you will leave with goose bumps ... OUTSTANDING!!!

  • I really want to see a styx concert some day hopfully soon

  • I'm 55 years old and my husband just recently turned me onto "Styx". This song melts my heart. Marilyn (Eureka, CA)

  • I remember my brother playing this for me, makes me feel good to know, that he is more talented and a much better pianist than this live shit.

    Love, Dot

  • STYX ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yugioh the abridged seris rules!!!!! Lol origanal is just as good (srry i cant spell)

  • @legonicdragon what's th epoint?

  • @legonicdragon thank you so much for that reference. I thought I was the only one who was here because of YGOTAS!

  • Barney Stinson : funniest man alive

  • That was fuckin fantastic for an unpluged song.. Nice cut on a great song! Dennis, you and Tommy Kicked ass on that...

  • Eric Cartman's cover is much better. Search for it.

  • Seeing these cats for the first time tonight in Bakersfield California..CANT WAIT!!!!

  • @allstarpoolpro11 IT WAS INSANE WASENT IT ?!?

  • @xawesomex5 what does it have to do with anything?

  • @xawesomex5 Pareces niño idiota!

  • @xawesomex5 QUEEN IS MY ADDICTIONNNNNNN

  • @xawesomex5 but Rush is the all time best

  • @siti1ca -

    Well... no... not exactly!

  • @xawesomex5 Dude really? Styx is way better, listen to Queen`s music then some of Styx`s music. Well maybe your just a dumbass and can`t hear!

    Zeppelin's better than Queen...

  • @Drumrdude1973

repeating the lie until it becomes the truth? :-P

  • @knueppelbulle -

Why not?? That's how religion came to be!!

I was sort of expecting a response from "xawesomex5" ...but since you chimed in, I'll go ahead and retort! The content of your reply, accompanied by the context in which you posted it leads me to believe that you are a "Queen" fan! Good band, they are... and in terms of preference, one can find their music preferable to that of Led Zeppelin. In terms of musical ability (aka; TALENT), members of "Queen" are not as qualified....

  • @xawesomex5 Im a great Queen fan too but i dont think that it's fair to say theyre better. I mean everyone is entitled to their opinion. And it's not like it a competition or something. All classic rock is awsome and should be respected. I don't like some of the bands from the 60's-80's but i'm not gonna go rip on them and say shit about them. They're better than most music nowadays

  • 5 overboard!! these guys were awsome!!

  • I got to see this live, I am 20 and proud that my parents took me to see such a fantastic band.

  • @SakuraKissLove gay & proud

  • @chrstphrrrrobin Meh? Are you gay? If so that is cool!

  • at the begining i thoughrt it was a women playing the piano because the hands looked so girly then at 0:08 i was like O.o doh >.<

  • *spots an army of Vikings on longboats cutting fast through the water singing this is unison*

    ...

  • 438 People finish this song when someone starts it.

  • Incredible! The song that made me fall for the magic of Styx!

  • Comment removed

  • @HorseRider4Life11 i hear you im almost 18 and i love styx, my rents got me hooked on their old people music lol but nah its actually good music not like all the crap going round now a days

  • @emoangel930 yeah they are really good i usually listen to country but there are a few band that i will listen to that arnt country such as ........ Boston, Manic Drive, Styx ....and a couple more

  • look at all the old people commenting :)

  • @SteezeMedia HEY I AM 13 YEARS OLD AND I LIKE THIS SO DONT GO INSULTING THESES GOOD PEOPLE!

  • This was my generation, but I gotta say that the tunes from the mid 70's - the early 80's was pretty great. I really need to have a strong melodic theme. It becomes memorable it there is a great hook. A great contribution to this time was the maturing of basic electronics and amplification, as well as a healthy dose of existential angst. Now that the Cold War was over, we started to ask who we were now that we were no longer defined by the global threat of Soviet expansion.

  • Class of 78 Theme Song. Canyonville Bible Academy

  • @777skypilot thats pretty legit i hate how my class will probably pic lady gaga or some shit

  • @Fluffefan No we won't. Don't worry. ABBA was huge in the late 70's. Now they're a novelty, same with Gaga. Madonna is also another archetypal example of "Re-Re-tired Pop Star". People cling to fads, but they remember greatness.

  • Let's sail away, guys!

  • Adoring fans everywhere, I must give my opinion on the fact that Dennis Deyoung is no longer apart of this wonderful musical organization. The sad truth is that Styx will never again have that untouchable magic and musical prowess that it once possessed. Make no mistake folks. Dennis is a wonderful and caring individual who possesses that raw talent rarely found among his famous Rock and Roll constituents.

  • dont feed the trolls, they will come back for more food like stray animals

  • Great Band!

  • Styx would seem to be ripe for a reunification tour. Everyone else does it, why not them? :) I have recently re-discovered their amazing body of work. I hope they do get together again with Dennis and rock it. Hopefully they have mellowed a little in their middle age and can see the value of compromising with each other. I hope so! Love them and their music!

  • @pumatech8 who asked you?

  • @pumatech8 so what are you saying, you're bi curious?

  • Totally thinks that's a Washburn guitar in the middle. Anyone know?

  • My styx c-d is broken ! thank god for the internet....! by the way im trying to make a music channel with good ole rock n roll. check it out and sub

  • This version is so full of WIN it almost crosses over to FAIL.

  • Is it me or is there a look of absolute loathing in Tommy Shaw's eyes as he looks over at Deyoung in this piece?

  • When was this? This looks like one of the last times they were together. Looks like maybe after '96.

  • i love the styix

  • Acoustic performances destroy the integrity of songs. A lot of times no synthesizers can be permitted here (this song had two: the Oberheim 4-Voice and the ARP Odyssey).

Both guitarists are using electroacoustic guitars (Tommy Shaw is playing a Takamine EF341SC, but what is James Young's?). Dennis is on the piano, of course, but as this is an acoustic performance there is no Oberheim synthesizer to be had here.

  • This song should be played more often.

    Super concert in the 70's.

  • christian bale on drums... nice ;)

  • Dennis DeYoung as is seen here, he has temporarily done away with the grey hair which he initially acquired in 1982. As a result he also decided to shave off his mustache. But a few years after this, he decided to let it go grey again and has never looked back.

  • I'm 12 and i LOVE this song

  • Is it true that Eric Cartman is gonna be Styx's new front man?

  • im 13 and i cant stand lady gaga or flo rida CLASSIC MUSIC IS THE BEST!!!............... PERIOD

  • r the guitarrists twins?

  • @OoOd4v3OoO

No. The only "twins" in Styx were the bassist and the original drummer. The original drummer in question is John Panozzo, who died in 1996 at age 47 due to cirrhosis of the liver. Todd Sucherman (seen here) replaced John in 1995.

  • @ClassicTVMan1981X thanx for the info :)

  • Amazing.. real music.. so beautiful. Love it!!

  • Amazing.. real music..

  • The absolute best rock song EVER!

  • @67jpt definately right there... anything from REO or Styx is tied for best song of all time haha

  • FUCK YOUUUU YOUTUUUUBE!!!!!!!

    you censored the best version

  • "There are no honours for this video."

    FIX. THIS. NOW.

  • I like that he's very enthusiastic about what he's doing you can tell he love to play and sing.

  • Did someone seriously compare Lady Gaga to Styx? lol

  • damnit.... now I have to go find the cynide and hapyness video of this.......

  • This song is so powerful. Such a great band.

  • Why do they skip the bridge?

  • Feeling this energy.

  • All you nostalgic people... there was better music than this before Styx (Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, and Sly and the Family Stone), better music at the time (billy joel, stevie wonder, prince, pink floyd to name a few), and better music today (Norah Jones, John Mayer, and countless Country singers). You can like this without hating hip hop as well.

  • Is it me ,or has anyone lese noticed that the melody of this song could be based on a classical piece?

    ( Rachmaniov maybe?)

  • Four people have no appreciation for awesome music.

  • My graduation song! I sure wish the older bands would get back together with the original lead singers. *sigh*

  • I really really miss Dennis DeYoung... I LOVE this version with the focus on Tommy toward the end <3

  • going to a styx concert

  • Cartman sings better

  • Great Version - Love the live piano! This does take me back to my childhood memories.....

  • Good to see these guys back together One of my fsvorite songs ever

    Music these days cant compare

  • 4 Peoples Boats Sank When they went sailing.

  • 5*'s

  • I just saw them in concert!! They were amazing!!!

  • An awesome unplugged version of a classic

  • Now lets be fair here; there's no need to go dissing the modern bands so much. I mean think about it, bands have been using machines to generate music even as far back as the classic rock period; for instance, those annoying synthesizers like the ones Styx used in the original version of this song. In the end, the stuff that comes out of both instruments and machines is just background noise; it's the vocalist that ties the whole thing together.

  • Didn't Eric Cartman sing this? lol.

  • @evil967 I prefer Eric Cartman's version, lol.

  • Back then you had to be good at singing to get a record deal. Nowadays you use the computer and you get a record deal.

  • @brazilgangsta Dude(ette) you hit the nail right on the head!!! Not much more for me to add.

  • @brazilgangsta That's not exactly accurate, but for the first part it is. The second part is not really the actual artist doing it, rather the company doing it. Unless of course, they actually DO do it themselves.

  • @brazilgangsta He has one of the most amazing voices ever

  • So peaceful.

  • STIX ROCKS!!!! Glad I found this video TY!

  • people say history is repeating itself. some good some bad. economy crashing, great depression II ? US military vs. afghan, world war 3? another terrorist attack on sears (willis) tower? thats the bad stuff. but good news. evolving into rock and roll. from blues and jazz to rock back in 50's. hip hop and rap into rock and roll in 2010? 2020? or how bout sports. another babe ruth? nolan ryan? jerry rice? lets see

  • I love STYX, but dont know alot about them.....Is this the same singer in this video they always had?? He sounds similar at times, but at times diff

  • Love it....Styx Rock!!

  • The music in the new Millenia is pathetic. No creativity at all. If the best rock band we got in this decade is Creed, thats pretty damn said as their a poor pans pearl jam.

  • we did this song for our choir show lol :D

cause i've GOT to be free, free to face the life thats ahead of me (ooh, so climb aboard oohoo, to carry on) lol i like both versions but of course nothing beats the classic

  • Just saw them here in Indy but without Dennis, but was still awesome!!

  • everytime i listen to a styx melody i wonder why did those guys insisted on singing.

  • Hockey rink Germany, waist down freezing, waist up sweating, show EPIC

  • Tommy Shaw rocks. Great stuff.

  • estyx esta gacho y juan huele a miados

  • Saw them last night at CenturyTel in Bossier...AWSOME!

  • That was awesome. However, I feel really sorry for that piano there at the end. Sure, he was rocking out and it sounded amazing... But he milked that Grand for all it was worth. xD

  • this is the main reason im teaching myself guitar, so i can play the music from the 60's-80's xD

  • @LocalJumper DON"T forget the ninties :) come one pearl jam! Soundgarden they all play with heart to unlike shitty music of this century

  • Styx was my #2 band...behind Queen. Love this stuff! Love seeing everyone together!

  • @thmorris3 Imagine a concert with BOTH!

  • hey guy on adthe

  • a rare appearance of Dennis DeYoung, Tommy Shaw, and James Young!

  • i'm seeing these guys live this summer can't wait lol

  • Wish my hair could grow that long when I rock out

  • Remember when "musicians" actually playes something? Not just this samples hip hop crap nowadays.. melodies etc.. miss those days.

  • @angus4463 I agree...when bands not just strum the guitars but played real music, and where guitar tricks are of made out of real talent, unlike today when they just strum their guitars and let electronic gadgets do the trick...

  • @angus4463

    Fully Agree!

  • @angus4463 Yeah, and when MTV had music? Good times are long gone sadly. Nostalgia is the only place for music nowadays

  • @vargulf19 try your radio and you might be surprised. hehe.

  • @angus4463 lady gaga plays piano live

  • @angus4463 Cheers brother!

  • @angus4463 I totally agree with you. I like this sort of stuff where I can put it in my van's CD player and turn it up and sing like there's no tomorrow! Hip Hop can't do that to me.

  • @angus4463 only 25% of today's music is from real "musicians".. All this pop and rap and hip hop crap is a bunch of self-obsessed morons who just want to be recognized by making up ryhmes about drugs, sex, and money. They don't have any musical talent at all, they cant even sing very well.. and never use their own music, they just use samples and sound effects.. I wish people would realize this
