I am sick to think a family pet winds up in this situation; or is this just for cases where people can't afford to have their animals cremated? Are you also saying that ALL pet foods have some by products of dog and cat remains? I can't imagine that a food like Science Diet has such remains in their food. The pet stores also care natural food. Is that a lie as well? \\ Doesn't Humane societies cremate the animals? Isn't that on the level?

@Seagirl218 You have to know how to read your ingredient panel on dog food, it's the only thing the pet industry is regulated on. If you see Animal Fat, Fish Meal, Meat Meal, any By-Product Meal on the back of your ingredient panel, chances are it is from one of these rendering plants. Companies that use these in foods include science diet, purina, bil jac, pedigree, royal canin, and almost any other major commercial dog food brands. Humane Societies also sell euthanized pets to these companies

@Seagirl218 Some good foods I should mention are Orijen, Fromm, Go! Natural, Natural Planet Organics, Primal, Bravo, Honest Kitchen, ect. So sorry for the long answer to your question but not all companies do this, just the big ones. You can find out who does and who doesn't by doing just a little research and reading your labels, hope this helps!

Even reputable commercial pet food is not good for dogs/cats, b/c it's still heavily processed and the heat destroyed/denatured all the nutrients in the food. Same goes for home cooked pet food. Dogs and cats need raw meat, it's what their digestive system is developed to for. Check out raw learning (no space) dot com for more information. Your pet deserve better food.

To call this animal abuse is a far stretch, the animals are dead. Sure the process is disgusting to watch and probably stinks like hell, but there is no way to provide a nice proper burial to all of our billions of pets, so it has to be done.

Most companies. Before you buy, check the label. Some companies labels do not say "meat and bone meal" but instead, "beef meal" or "chicken." But even these ingredients are nothing like what a person would eat. Dead, diseased, dying and disabled animals are used in pet food. No animal is too putrid or cancerous to be embraced by the renderer.

If you see "meat and bone meal" on the label of your pet food - BEWARE. the "meat" can be from any animal - including dogs and cats euthanized with poison. if it states it is beef or chicken, then it has to be from the specified animal. often the "beef" is spinal cord, tails, hooves, intestines and brains - all ground up into a fine 'meal,' of course. do some research on rendering plants and you will learn the truth. spay and neuter.

they (rendering plants) also use the carcasses of the cattle, horses, llamas and whatever other farm animals they pick up, grind the entire animal but the hide; which they use to make leather obviously. the reason i know is because i use to work at a rendering plant.

Where do you live?. In my country we have children starving, so i would´t care if my cat or my dog is eating shit, when 15 blocks from my house there´s a starving child. So, i´m supposed to feed my dog with fresh meat when the poor child is starving? I prefer to donate some meat than giving it to my dog. The only reason to have a dog is for security. The cat? For hunting and keeping away rats (well, if he is hungry and we don´t want to feed him, he just go to my house yard and hunts a bird).

Let me see... what kind of food do your give to them? If you tell me it´s Whiskas or another "balanced meal", they are all made of the same shit. The commercial name for this is "meat flour", "fish flour" or "chicken flour". Check this in your pet´s meal, because most of that food are made of this.

Raw diet- fresh meat(including liver and kidneys), vegs, fruits, eggs, some dairy like cottage cheese etc., (this is for a dog, No clue what to feed a cat, I'm not really a cat person- probably a diet higher in fat.)

My dog eat the cheap balanced meal and the dinner leftovers (bones, meat fat, chicken giblets, etc), and he´s very healty. My cat eats the same, cheap balanced meal for cats and the leftovers, and he doesn´t have any problem with his hair or his bodie. He´s a healthy 4 years old male cat.

Hey LCA, I have a question about this video. I am a bit confused, I hope I don't sound ignorant. Anyway, the dogs from the vet clinic were most likely companion animals correct? So I assume the owners could not afford to have their bodies cremated. I understand the spay/neuter aspect of this, but the bodies from the vet were not strays right? I mean wouldn't most stray animal bodies be coming from shelters? Also, what is the final product used for? I tried searching "protein meal" with no luck.

Some pet owners have the vet "dispose" of the body because they may not have a place to bury it etc. Protein meal is used for a variety of things but mostly pet food! Everyone who has a pet or knows someone who does should google "the truth about pet food" and educate themselves.
