  • is there a Drum n Bass/Dubstep version of this?

  • Haha, I like how it's all nice and mellow, then suddenly a picture of a brutal kicking destroys the whole atmosphere.

Unintentional, I assume, but non-the-less comic timing perfection.

  • Why on the tv credits at end of programme they have cut out 49sec to 119sec Thats the best Bit! They use to play it in the 70s when especially there was a dramatic ending

  • Iv, got no knickers on....

    Iv, got no knickers on...

    Iv.... aint got no

    aint got knickers on...

  • @TheCheeseFood Really! what do you want to do?

  • So beautiful. Thank you for posting this.

  • e by gum

  • Fuck

  • I love this show :)

  • my dog howls at this

  • @BENDER3461 same here... O.o

  • @BENDER3461 my dog howls the whole way through too!!!

  • abomination street

  • That's Ronnie Hunt trembling away there on trumpet. Stan Roderick had been booked for the session but deputised it out to Ronnie. Stan would have played it beautifully, but Ronnie made another kind of job of it, which, in the end, fit the show perfectly.

  • me and my friend shan are also doin a vid with movin our eyebrows to this song so yeh sub, add me as a friend, like and comment on my vids! :)

    thankyou! <3

  • Love It

  • the outtro is honestly my favourite part <3

  • Listening to this and seeing the black and white scenes reminds me of staying over at my Grandma's place in the mid-sixties. Poor old Gran wanted me to go to bed but I protested and said that "my Mum said I can stay up 'till 8 o'clock", whereupon Grandma just laughed and said OK. I fell asleep in the chair within about 2 minutes!

  • I haven't watched the normal series since the late 1990's as it is utter rubbish now. It was made by Granada, now ITV studios and it has been ruined by the generic ITV1 branding,as have the other regional companies,Granada was my region, and the saddest thing is they are demolishing Granada TV studios in 2012, and moving to Media city,Salford. I don't suppose the C S set will look the same. Just as well i don't watch the show now. R.I.P Granada and the other regional companies.

  • @DaveyC95 I agree its sad that most of the ITV regions are no longer in use however in the STV region we still have our own branding and idents, but Glasgow produce very few home grown shows now, obviously we have the regional news, the odd galic show and a scottish chat show in the 5pm weekday slot, besides that there is very little independance from ITV. Perhaps it was better for other regions to go when they did instead of suffering from London control slowly scaping their various projects.

  • @DanielBaigrie Well we all know who is to blame don't we?...Thatcher and her Broadcasting Act 1990, and the greedy bosses of Carlton that started off the franchise takeovers...And who is in charge of ITV now? Archie Norman, former Conservative MP for Tunbridge Wells and Asda boss who sold that company down the river off to Walmart, (formerly Wal*Mart)for millions...It could all have been avoided.

  • I remember this theme from when i was about three years old, from what i now know to be Elsie Tanner's final episode in 1984. It has been repeated a few times on the now defunct Granada plus satellite channel showing early episodes and on a Saturday focusing on one main character in the street, mainly one of the matriarchs from five various episodes.

  • A million times better then the TERRIBLE re -recording they are using currently. I have not watched Corrie since the day it was introduced. When will ITV learn???

  • Cast members may come and go....as long as Coronation street keep this theme song...I will always watch the show. Wonderful music!!

  • i love the bass piece. it is a fantastic piece of music

  • i live in the U.S and can not get this show on TV here, however I do remember hearing this song once when I was little. and being a musician of bass, drums, percussion and vocal, i must say this version is very beautiful. it reminds me of that big band sound that will never be forgotten. this would be an easy song to play i think.

  • @anakin1255 If you live in the USA you might be able to get the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) on cable. It plays Coronation Street every day. My mom has been watching it for years.

  • i've got no knickers on

    i've got no knickers on...

try singing that 2 the theme tune

  • my nans dog howls when i put it on speaker

  • I don't like the new theme tune. thumbs up if you would like to see it changed back to the old one.

  • @TheJuicyfruitx yes i agree the old tune is far better.

  • So iconic.

  • @sambda I didn't mess around with the audio at all. I assume that it was originally taken from an old vinyl record or something. Doesn't really detract from the music though, so stop moaning ; )

  • you know,, i just thought that this song would be perfect for ballroom dancing. what do you think???

  • cant wait for 50th Anniversary.

  • WE LOVE GAIL MCINTYRE!

  • When you take a few minutes to listen to it properly instead of letting it barely register in the background, you realize what a beautiful, well-crafted piece of music this theme is.

  • I've only ever heard the full version of this wonderful theme song once before-sometime in the early summer of 1970, when they announced on the radio that the actor who played Jack Walker had died in real life. The "Street" is THAT big over here in parts of Canada and our family has been watching it since it was first shown on the CBC in 1966.

  • @petclark1: Back in 2005, we visited Canada. We watched the episodes on CBC in an evening - how bad are we lol When we visited Banff, we went into a small confectionary shop on the main street and my girlfriend (now my wife) and I got chatting to the cashier. She was a student who often visited the UK and we got talking about Coronation Street. She wanted updating on the storylines that were currently being aired in the UK. It was most surreal.

  • @Lynxboy252 I'm just as bad. Back in '96, while lunching in a small cafe in the Austrian Alps, an English family overheard us speaking and introduced themselves. They were surprised that I recognised there Lancashire accent. I explained it was only because we watched Corrie. My friend had been away from the table when we first started chatting and upon her return thought we were all long lost friends until she realised I was pumping the nice British family for upcoming Corrie storylines.

  • They should play this for the 50th anniversary in December.

  • Would anyone know what years these photographs may have been taken??

  • Lyric:-

    I've got no knickers on;

    I've got no knickers on...

  • I've always associated this song with old people. Dunno why though.

  • @fukyous Prolly cos it sounds like inter-war era jazz music and most of the people born then listened to music like this. I really like it. :)

  • @aarandir That's got to be it.

  • Timeless tune ! :)

  • This is how I heard about this show/song

    youtube . com/watch?v=k6UZBN5qhmM

  • Wonderful piece of music! By Eric Spear.

  • My god, when we were kids nothing could clear the room like the opening strains of this on the television. We hated Coronation Street! But my oh my, what a lovely tune.

  • Thanks - this is a beautiful theme and beautful 'swung' by the band. Wonderful short piece!!!

  • Have heard that heaps of dogs howl whenever the Corrie St programme comes on.

  • I have heard that a lot of dogs howl whenever they hear the Corrie St theme.

  • Imagine Corrie with The EastEnders theme - doesn't work does it?

They'd been better off giving the London Soapie The Theme from the Dam Busters.

  • cant wait for the anniversary special everywhere going to be set alight haha plus characters die or injured

  • This is one of the most comforting sounds in the world.

  • god i hate this show

  • @23redwings23 don't watch it then, nigger lips

  • @132000Volts did i say i watch it you stupid cocksucker no i said i hate it fuckin douche fag

  • @23redwings23 - If you don't watch it then don't comment then, nigger lips

  • @132000Volts i dont watch it fuck face and ill comment more this show is fucked and anyone who trys to defend it is a dumb ass retard, thanks :)

  • @23redwings23 - I'm not defending it, I'm just saying don't watch it, nigger lips. Got it? Nigger lips?

  • Does anyone know which record this was taken from?

  • This sounds like it's from a gramophone record. Is it (or was it) available commercially?

Does anybody know which label, record number etc.?

  • I'll bet this was played in the Northern smoky clubs of the 1950s. Clubs full of old dears drinking stout and look 20 from the back and 60 from the front.

Thats how Tony Warren got his ispiration for Bet Lynch.

I remember the day when the end theme tune started from 1:02 mins - prefer that

  • @LollieSmith I can`t agrre with you More ,From 1:02 was the end ,but it started to wear off, and i was only used on sad endings, also i knew it was time for bed after i heard the end of corrie, GEEZEEE that was some years ago, 8/10 at that age told it was bed.time! but now 48 ,And slowly the theme is getting back to good old days

  • @squeakyba11s

It was always preceded in the Border region by another ratings giant Opportunity Knocks, two massive shows together.

  • and Len Fairclough is a fucking nonce

  • Mavis Riley takes it up the shitter

  • i love corn anus street

  • happy 60th birthday Coro

  • @LollieSmith 50th

  • @VengaboysRbackINtown Lol Sorry i put a 6 instead of 5. I'll look forward to the 100th and i will be 85

  • anyone got the bet lynch teapot by wade im after it

  • corrie is the best soap ever it never grows old and it was released when my mum was born 1960 i think :P

  • 1:21 is that Kevin kiking someone?

  • my friends grandad wrote this music no joke. they played it at his funeral

WOW that's amazing..great tune love to tell your friends that...I bet they are proud of their grandad....

  • @The78BOYZ Aw Thats So Worderful !

  • @The78BOYZ Awww. Thats So Wonderful ! And Sweet.

  • @The78BOYZ What did he originally call it?

  • I have missed the "middle part" of this theme for years. They used to include it in the earlier years - thanks for the posting.

  • Never realized what a beautiful piece of music this is

  • Its grim 'oop north'...

  • Fucking north,the best.

  • Thank you very much

  • Always makes me laugh - on any of the modern photos of coronation street - absolutely no Sky dish to be seen.

  • Though I'm not that keen on the show, I think the theme tune is heavenly :)

  • Brilliant moody piece.

  • my dog howls to this theme ;))

  • what a smooth tune, easily the best theme tune on tv!

  • I say, I said oi!!

  • don't hate, pal. Love, and make peace. You only get one life, you don't want to waste it hating other people do you?

  • don't worry mate, I absolutely agree with you if nobody else does! I think it used to be good though

  • Corrie just is not what it was, just check out the old network episodes from the 60's with Elsie,Ena and Hilda, brilliant. Its a shadow of its former self...

  • im not that fussed on it but i do enjoy the music (:

  • As much as I sincerrely respect Corrie as an institution, it's possibly the worst television programme I have ever seen.

  • YOU

    are

    STUPID

  • you're so stupid, you make me violently sick

  • Ohnoes call teh ambuance!

  • i agree

  • The piece isn't called "Kaleidoscope". Kaleidoscope is a music pubisher which produces orchestra arrangements. The piece is simply the theme to "Coronation Street".

  • Are you all joking, under Kieran Roberts their has been so much laughter; thrilling and compelling storylines. Yes I do agree it was better 'back in the day' but what would you prefer to watch Corrie or Hollyoaks now that is shit.

  • corrie's always been good, it had a shit patch and now tehre are too many cardboard blondes but it's way above the others. hollyoaks is sickeningly glib. 'you cammin aht tonight?' 'nah feelin a bit pikey, just got raped inn i:

    'av some e, cheer ahp'

'oo fanks fink i'[ll get buggered nah by sam footballah'

  • ee, aye, lafftah, lafftah through't tears - eck eeee

    lafftah though't tears

    TEARS

    LAFFTAH

    TEARS of LAFFTAHHHHH

    THROUGH'S TEARSSS

    EEE

    BAAAA

    GUMMMM

  • yeah a renaaissance

with hilda's muriel really a michelangelo masterpiece

and the flying ducks being da vinci prototypes mastered by eddie yates on his rubbish gondalier

    oh GOD

    YOU MAKE ME SICK

  • I love this tune

watch it every time it on <3

  • Corrie will celebrate 50 years of broadcasting next year! The world's longest running soap... and if you found Monday's edition boring you need a brain transplant! Blanche at an Alco Ano meeting priceless! Had tears of laughter running down my face! Best TV in Britain! Jim and his other son are coming back! Someone made a comment that the music sounded like the 50's lol! It started in the 50's!

  • As much as i like Corrie as a soap i've decided enough is enough 3 months i banned myself from watching it's downhill spiral for a month then gave it another go to see if it just was me being fickle well nope it's not, the show is on it's last legs! Up until start of July i was an avid viewier of Emmerdale but it's been ruined by Itv's idea to send the guy who screwed corrie up down to yorkshire :(

  • This theme tune sounds very classic! Like in the 1940s - 50s!

  • my nans dog howls to this

  • HAHAHAHA

  • but Coronation street had a renaissance under Kieran Roberts. I think his time's up there now but on the whole he's been good for the show.

  • Bring back Jim McDonald!

    As he once famously said:

"Come here 'Til I bate the bake O ye!"

  • Best six euro ever spent.

  • Corrie seems be going through a particularly bad patch at the moment but that theme is just timeless and superb!

  • It's very disappointing at the moment - although I've seen at first-hand the sheer hard work and dedication that goes into the making of it. It seems to think it has to imitate EastEnders. I've just lost track of all the characters with dyed black to be honest.

  • (dyed black hair)

  • You mean the Conors.

  • Hehe, yes

  • But annoying Michelle and her even more annoying son are the only ones left now or am I forgetting someone?

btw, I think both of them ^^ should be axed. I'm outraged that Darrel and Popie are leaving over them!

  • Love Corrie, it's the best soap ever!!

  • couldn't agree more!!!!

  • ive just been playing this on the piano and the sheet music reads theme from coronation street by eric spear, nice piece of music to think he only got paid £6 is incredible, cant say i wish to play the eastenders theme thanks for posting

  • It's a wonderful, evocative, melancholy tune which thankfully (unlike other serial dramas) has never changed. This is a nice visual montage, too, but the single still of Kevin Webster kicking John Stape seems an odd image to represent nearly 50 years of the Street!

  • Hi Mate

I've never really watched the show and but remember it from the 60s

Better get to the point ,why was he kicking him

  • Comment removed

  • This should be used on the 50th Anniversary! Brilliant! Timeless! Was the music originally called Kaiedescope?

  • I didnt know it was called Kaiedescope

the guy who wrote it though only got paid £6 for it though lol

  • I thought he got paid a little more than that. I bet he's kicking himself for not accepting royalties now though. Think of the money he'd have earned.

  • The music from 1:00 onwards should be used on every episode (it used to be until ITV drastically cut back credits).
