What a terrible loss. probably wouldn't have been a parade but who cares. To raise the trophy wearing the emergency workers hats would've been great. Never realized that broscious could've started a DP but went to first only cause Torre said get one. Also Soriano would've been known as someone who won a WS with a go ahead HR.
If ever there were a team that didnt deserve to win the world series.....your 2001 Arizona Diamondbacks. Roids for Matt Williams, Curt Schilling, Luis Gonzalez....make them average and that team doesnt reach the playoffs. What a sham.
Somehow U2's music became more popular around 9/11. Then Coldplay too. Eventually America got back to rocking a little. The Rising put all the simpy "candle waving in the air" stuff to shame. Good song for the montage here though.
what a great world series, the yankees should have won it but really both teams were great and deserved something, if it was any other year after 2001 I would have felt that the diamondbacks should win but obviously quite alot of people wanted to see the trophy in nyc, still one of the best series in modern history and was a great advert for baseball as a sport to the whole world who were watching closely after 9/11
Good thing the montage was made by Fox Sports. CBS, NBC and ABC would have filled it with Muslims and weeping Americans.
BTW, Game 7 saved Kim's life, perhaps literally. Being a Korean, he took losing two World Series games extremely seriously, and at the very least he would have been depressed for the rest of his life, had the D'backs lost the Series.
@PacRimJim I don't remember who, but one of the NY players was scheduled to stay in town for a while and fly back home, but the Yankees lost and he flew back a few days earlier. The flight he was supposed to go on crashed after takeoff.
Best World Series I have ever seen. Big time Yankee fan, that one hurt a lot more than 2004 to me personally. Game 7 was still one of the best games I have ever watched even though they lost.
this world series was more than just a world series. it was a healing for the entire nation. I'll never forget the opening pitch GW jr threw in game 3. I was only in 6th grade but ill always remember it.
it was our first time to the world series and we beat the Yankees. GO MOTHER F#$%ING DIAMONDBACKS WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am a yankee fan, and even though they lost in such a dramatic fashion, this was one of the greatest series in history. so many come-from-behind wins and walk off home runs/hits from both sides. i remember watching this series as a 11 year old, and thinking of this team as heroes, especially after 9/11. how incredible it would have been if they had won in New York that year
@invaderzimrox987 They were the most dominant pitchers in their bullpen at the time. (Curt in particular, considering he went on to the World Champs Red Sox team.) Kind of a shame that the team went into free-fall after this moment. Ah well. Maybe one day, the boys in Phoenix'll recover.
I realize you're a Yankee fan, but do you have the bottom of the ninth of Game 7? That entire half-inning was one incredible ride, and I still get a huge smile on my face every time I see a clip of that blooper falling in there. If it's not too painful a memory, would you consider uploading it if you have it?
@ian2813 - i feel you bro, even though im a die hard giants fan i remember gonzales's (think i spelled it wrong), 9th inning game 7 world series winning homerun. Ive looked all over the web for it but i couldnt find it
This series was fucking crazy
