at such a high speed, there might be many factors causing drift: Maybe too smooth road, bad tire rubber, some of the joints or axles might also be vibrating more at such a high speed?? Or then external factors like some oil on the road, some wind gust at that moment... or involuntary micro vibrations/twinches in the rider's body parts (a 5mm involuntary vibration in the steering wheel/a-bike-part could translate into a 50cm vibration at 300+km/h...: Have to keep Cool...)??

The GP7 was much faster than the others that year so. He won on tracks with long straights. Comparing Rossi to Stoner. Go to motogp site and have a look. If you compare them then do so when they were the same age at least. Stone has 1 world title in 1 class, Rossi has 9 in 5 with four different manufacturers. At this point there is no comparison. MotoGP have stoner rightly in 12th place all time. He has likely another 4 years to go. So he will never amass the same stats as Rossi.

What most people don't seem to realise is that for a fast lap, you need speed, yes, but if you can't stop & turn the thing, then most would sacrifice some of the speed for better handling. Have a look at the way the Ducati bucked & weaved that year compared to the Yamaha & Honda. The bike was fast, but it was a pig to handle. W Gardener rode it & said it's handling was shocking & was amazed what Stoner could do on it.

As Ducati's leading rider for 4 years it was his job to lead development of the bike, so if the bike was unrideable by anyone else then the blame lays firmly at Stoners door for leading the development in the wrong direction.
