I learned with Latimer that life is like an explosion. When we are born, we begin that explosion, until it fades away when our body is dead. What we do in between is to give of our potential, what we hold inside, our soul to the world. And Latimer puts out his soul on the stage. There is no flesh or bones. Just his soul in a huge blast. Reality then becomes something else: all is transcended and only his musical soul remains. Just listen to ICE, for example.
Andy Latimer is also one the greatest composers ever. His music comes from within, transmitting to us his wonderful inner landscape. Every note he plays describes this landscape that we can only hear and imagine. And what an amazing landscape it is!
@rematpac - the older you get the more soul and emotion you get,as a musician particularly. There are some who had that feel early on in life of course and this type of music requires that of you.
Along with Ice, maybe the best instrumental song ever. I also like Misere with Martin Barre, but it's not the same feeling in that one... Only Andy can play this with this much emotion.
Yes, indeed Ed. One of my many favourite Camel songs. It' s almost impossible to pick favourite Camel songs, since they're all so good, but this one ranks HIGH.
Great posting! Andy Latimer is just fantastic -- music drips from his fingers. Never any noise or filler, this man just can't help but write great tunes.
I wish I knew myself. If You got the on-line news letter ,it stated that he was responding to the marrow transplant quite well, but then had a bit of a relapse. I did see in wikipedia that as of erlier this year he was back to feeling better and even hoped to try and tour again. Let's hope it all comes together. He is a god in my book. Nobody plays like him. He brings goose bumps to your skin and tears to your eyes.
As of September , he is doing fine and the news was posted on the camelproductions web-site. His wife says there isn't a day that goes by where he doesn't have a guitar in his hands. He tries to do more than he should she says and suffers from stiffmess in his hands. Other than that it is very positive news after what he had to go through. I can just imagine what tunes he has already come up with in the last year of his recovery. Cheers and god bless andrew. You are one of a kind.
i found this video yesterday. until now, i've been playing it at least twenty times and i can't get enough! Andy Latimer can't really be compared with anyone else on earth. Unique.
I poke myself in the eyes everytime I see the lists of greatest guitarists. Everytime - Slash, Angus Young, Kirk Hammett but NO Andy? Not that I don't like those guitarists, they make great solos, but can't even begin to compete with Andy at skills
I actually think Guns 'n' Roses sparked at least some hope. Sure, Slash wans't a great technitian, be he made good and cathcy solos. But he's nowhere near Andy.
Andy isn't very technical either. I think Slash might even be more technical but Andy has the best note choice ever and his vibrato and bends just bring tears in my eyes everytime. He's certainly the one that moves me the most!
I wouldn't underestimate Slash. I really don't think Chord Change is harder than Sweet Child O' mine or November rain techniquewise. Latimer is playing over harder changes, Slash mostly plays in one key and it gets a bit boring because his lick vocabulary consist of mostly pentatonic bluesrock stuff with a little harmonic minor thrown in there whereas Latimers note choice is way more inspired. But slash has got a decent technique for what he's doing. (he's no Greg Howe of course).
Neither does andy's and I love him! that's the point I was trying to make. I think slash' vocabulary is rather limited to bluesy stuff whereas Latimer's note choice is more subtle. But techniquewise they both aren't monsters.
slash = november's rain and godfather live solo ..rest is more than shit an only noobs love slash offcourse who couldnt understand a decent note...slash an santana is for noobs only few songs made them famous..but speakin of greg howe:P oh well an tony macalpine ..dave martone ..slash can take advanced lessons with tony macalpine to improve
Well Santana and Slash play tasty but simple licks bu I actually like their playing next to all the virtuoso's I listen to. Macalpine is awesome yeah. I'd prefer Greg Howe, Andy Timmons and Guthrie Govan but the're all awesome players.
Don't mind those ridiculous so-called guitar polls.Guitarists who got/get a lot of media attention score always high in those rankings. It's more about "The Most Famous Guitarist" than about the most gifted one. It's never about the Andy Latimers of this world. We all know that, don't we?
Honestly Who doesn't love andy ?!

Why can't more guitar players try to make music like this instead of trying to show off.

Because the people who put those "greatest" lists usually don't know jack about music, and prog musicians always get shortchanged.
BTW, "slash"...wasn't he one of those guns n roses characters? Those are the kind of clownish posers that contributed to the downfall of great rock.

Camel's Chord Change is pretty complicated i think. I think he does have better technique than Slash, Slash relies solely on his sound.
