OZIDIZI - ever green memory. Unforgettable maestro in the entertainment history of Nigeria. A natural dancer His indelible melodious voice with natural cultural touch makes his works insurmountable. They are meaningful describing reality and free of vulgar and borrowed languages addressing contemporary fundamental political, economic and social cultural issues as it affects our continent. I am of the opinion that our emerging stars should emulate his naturalness rather than being an imposture.

Rest in peace Sonny Okosuns. He remains one of the best Nigerian of our generation. He deserves a National honor and befitting burial such as we witnessed during Fela Anikulapo's funeral. Rest in peace Bros Sonny. We shall greatly miss you
A true Nigerian Ambassador. In Zimbabwe and indeed Southern Africa, barring your great foobtballers, Sonny Okosun is widely known. I remember when he came to perform in Harare with Onyeka Onwenu, a true legend he was. His song Fire In Soweto, to this day, remains truly inspirational. A song that forged ahead a revolution and a quest for justice, dignity, freedom and self-rule in our region. To a true son of the soil, Dr Okosun I salute you.
May he rest in perfect peace. His songs helped a generation of Africans (not just Nigerians) realize the ills that were going on in the southern part of the continent.
What a shame to so-called country called Nigeria! not long ago this true 'ambassador' was left to his fate with no help coming from the country that he served.. It was an Indian man who was willing to pay his medical bills.
Now he is dead and as usual, the thieves in power want to use giving him a 'so-called state burial' to steal. I am sure he is rejecting such nonsense just like Achebe rejected their useless 'national award'the; oon, obe, itt, sap, ofn, hiv, iwu, obj, ibb..
We will be there on the 13th God willing to be part of the great icon's send off. We will keep you all in our prayers as you deal with this great loss, we won't forget him even if he didn't leave us on Memorial day weekend.
Thanks again to every body that sends their love. My dads wake in dc,md,va will be on the 13th of june. I will let everyone know the location. Then we will fly him back to Nigeria for the state funeral. Thank u all and God bless.
Accept our condolences Sidney, I am saddened by your dad's death like everyone else because it is so untimely. I pray he soul rests in peace until the Lord appears in the clouds on judgment day. Keep us updated on wake keeping plans in the DMV. All Africans should grieve for this great man from Ishan, ibhiesan riobhowe!
May peace rest upon the family in this time of sorrow. I give my greatest regard. There are alot of great memories that he has left behind, let's rejoice in them.
Along with Fela, Sonny Okosun through his music enlightened Africa about Pan Africanism when the educational system did the opposite. Thanks for the memories and your legacy will live on...Ashe!
Dear Sokosun, Our heartfelt sympathies go out to you and your family...Find strength and peace in this challenging and difficult time. Know that he was loved by millions.RIP Great friend, father and Humanitarian! You lived and fought for Africa and freedom, May you rest in eternal peace brother Sonny OKOSUN.
I am shocked to hear that Okosun is no more. He loved is country and his people so much that he always sing to raise their spirit. He gave a good fight to survive this cancer but God has spoken. R.I.P. brother.
Am glad he Heard d call when he was called and was still doing his job when he was called, he was a living legend and a gem, we should all learn from him?none of us no when it will be our call dat son come home

Sonny is an immense talent, a trail blazer and above all an inspiration. Well said Soul too Soul and thanks a whole bunch Oronbaba for the beautiful post.We need more of him, i almost cried watching this.
Sonny Okosun is another of those great musicians to come out of Nigeria. It seems at one point Nigeria was one of the main arteries for African music. Sonny was able to blend reggae, popular music, with African. It is a bonus to listen to Sonny explain his early influences. It is fuuny and sad to hear how he tried to emulate Elvis Presely. Sonny was also trying to confront the corruption and despair in his native homeland. Each Nigerian musician was able to find their own style.
Good job grandpa!, you are excellent, can't wait to see you tommowrow. Anyway you look just like daddy! I guess thats where daddy gets his good looks from
