I remember when he came to perform in Harare with Onyeka Onwenu, a true legend he was. His song Fire In Soweto, to this day, remains truly inspirational. Sonny Okosun is another of those great musicians to come out of Nigeria. It seems at one point Nigeria was one of the main arteries for African music. Sonny was able to blend reggae, popular music, with African. It is a bonus to listen to Sonny explain his early influences. It is fuuny and sad to hear how he tried to emulate Elvis Presely. Sonny was also trying to confront the corruption and despair in his native homeland. Each Nigerian musician was able to find their own style.
