the stupid techno music really helps my comprehension.....
This could have been a decent video, if you had actually explained ANYTHING in a manner in which others could understand it.
As for the safety, I really could care less if you light yourself on fire and use the steam to attempt to douse the flames, as I won't feel a thing. Once you get burned bad enough or lose an eye, you'll understand why they make safety glasses and gloves designed to cope with hot materials and/or fire.
@Skyde67 anyone in HVAC will tell you that steam is far more dangerous than fire. I'd rather be in a the middle of a house fire than next to a steam boiler explosion.
you do realize that your not wearing gloves and that one touch in that steam could cause serious burns to your hands right? Love the Enginuity, just be safe. I also agree with definca on the valve thing. Make sure you pick the right materials cause somethings arent meant to hold that type of pressure I know ive had something blow up in my face and the metal went through it too. Not Cool. Be Safe Love the device
do you think the steam is hotter than the fire? Then shouldn't I wear gloves when lighting a fire or being around one? sometimes sparks can rise up from the fire, so goggles there would make it a lot safer to. what if the sparks lit my sweater? maybe a fireproof suit could have prevented that?
come on guys, you are complaining about pressure release valves (wich is present) and a ball valve not being able to cope with the temp/pressure.
I agree on wearing the goggles, our eyes are precious, but isn't the best way to learn that a stove is hot to burn your hands on it? the steam looses it's heat immediately when evacuating the pipe, becouse of the enormous expansion.
@bonnemichael LMAO, right on, too many fuckin wimps out there. It is just so annoying, we get all these bullshit laws passed which end up restricting responsible peoples work. Because a bunch of morons can't use common sense. People have a heart attack when they see me smoking at a gas station, or filling my tank while the car is on, seriously either go read some books or fucking experiment. I can throw a lit match into a bucket of gas, it won't catch fire trust me.
besides, none of you have spotted the thing that was a really bad idea;
for gaining more heath I turned the vacuum cleaner into a blower, and raised the temperature of the fire.
if the pressure in the boiler got too high, and the temperature at the end of it as well, the pipe could have ripped open, sending a high pressure steam cloud in the blazing fire.
no gloves would counter that. maybe goggles would have helped, a bit
I hope you are read up on the limits of your designs and materials. All pipes, valves, etc have ultimate bursting / failing pressures. Many can be damaged without realizing it. You are putting your life on the line every time you do this. If you have a valve fail and it does not open, I HOPE you have fail safes to not over heat things and create and explosion. You and people a LONG way away could easily get hurt. If I were your neighbor 500 ft away I would not allow this.
the valve is an overdimensioned ball-valve, wich, as i quote from wikipedia, "are durable and usually work to achieve perfect shutoff even after years of disuse. They are therefore an excellent choice for shutoff applications.... Ball valves are used extensively in industry because they are very versatile, supporting pressures up to 700 bars and temperatures up to 200°C."
even so, if the ball valve would fail, their is always the last resort of knocking off the manometer.
you know that wikapedia is inacurate right. and put a release valve on it because ive seen some pictures on certain websites about what happens if you dont, and i would hate to see a couple of pictures of your magled body stuck in a tree on one of these websites. put a 200 psi safety valve on it or you can buy two 125 psi safety valves from home depot. a 25 dollar investment can save your life.
wich off course, if you were my neighbour, could fly 500ft off into your direction , fly through your roof window, crash into your computer screen and set the carpet alight.
maybe it would be better if nobody tried anything, and achieved nothing. it's safer
Or maybe it would just be better to not be your neighbor, who does shit outside in his yard willy nilly instead of inside a proper shop with safe thoughtful procedures. You work alone that is the first mistake. If anything were to happen to you who shuts off the fire? who helps you? Your set up just looks a bit too "jerry rigged" for me. You are also just kind of "playing around" and with steam pressure you will not be the first man casualty. Dont be "casual" with high power things. RESPECT !
Sorry for the air, I was only hoping to open your eyes to a few safety issues. You were told by others to at least wear goggles. You were the one who became sarcastic. My comments are true sorry if you are not happy with them.
With respect to a long tubular boiler. Properly rated steam pipe would be fine. You should be able to find a 10 ft section with flanges on its ends. If its "rated" for the pressure, you stand a lot less chance of it bursting and sending sch rap metal flying at supersonic
well I have been experimenting mostely with bamboo like, softer tropical wood, ramin, and wen the wood exits the boiler, it acts just like a rubber band, really flexible, but you need to bend it fast.
Probably becouse it needs the heat that goes with the saturation to get the bend right.
I have not experienced cracks after drying,
I think you can reach greater bending angles boiling, and especially, it seems that the tension 'disappears' out of the wood
well, at the end ill be doing the steamer, not the boiler, yesterday i got everything i need to build it, im using pvc with isulation to preserve the heat
OK this is truly one of the most bizzare videos I have seen. WHAT, pray-tell, is the point here? Do you know what high pressure steam does to human flesh?

allright, since you seem to own the tree of knowledge, tell me, how would you do it?
how would build a high pressure wood boiler that can contain rods up to 3 meters (10ft.)?
of course, at your safest.
becouse frankely, most of your arguments have an air of prejudice to them.

wouldnt this work as a snow maker in the winter?
oilfield666 2 years ago
wow! with the high presure one you can feed a normal steamer and bend more wood... i was going for a normal steamer untill i saw these.
so, is it a high presure boiler or a steamer?
cocy3000 2 years ago
well, I use it as a boiler, becouse the wood seems to get different (better) bending properties.
Also this way you can use freshely cut wood, becouse the boiling proces dries it out almost instantly (after a couple of boiling hours)
bonnemichael 2 years ago
well i didnt know that, but isnt it risky, i mean that cracks could apear drying so fast...
well, i use only hard woods and they like to crack.
so they bend better by boiling?
cocy3000 2 years ago

well, the point of the high pressure is getting the woodfibres to saturate faster and thus reaching their max bending flex sooner.
And yes, I have found out what it does to human flesh.
not as bad as welding burns...
