I'm sure it is. If people are using it to tune out, escape, calm down or whatever, it would be hard to give it up. It might even be physically addictive to people with a certain type of biochemistry for all I know. Really when you make a statement like that you are only speaking for yourself and your experience. Personally, I think it's a rather benign "drug", certainly far less damaging both physically and socially than alcohol. I've been in the company of lots of people who behave badly when drinking, but not when smoking pot. There is that horrible paranoia feeling if you smoke the wrong stuff, so I guess you figure out what works for you and stick to it. Really, in a society that condones alcohol there is no rational reason for pot not to be legal.

If pot is addictive on some level, then its clearly not as socially destructive as any of the recognized addictions I mentioned above.
