No, not at this level (beginner/primary). There are no strict rules saying you are not allowed to wear a solo dress, or that you have to wear it at a certain level, but costumes are far more common with intermediate and advanced dancers. Thus, we still have a way to go:-)
well done, im doin exactly the same one as ur doin rite there, im 19 and has been doin irish dancin for about 7 months. love it to bits,,irelands always been my heart and soul!espec the trad folk music and dance. id love 2 compete wit this 2 since i love the jig but i dunno where to!!
This is what all of us dancers do, kids or adults, beginners or advanced... And competition (as well as grade exams) is what really helps you realize your strong and weak points - and improve if you want to!
One was Rose-Marie Sorohan from London, not sure about the other, but both were from the Isles I believe. Definitely no one from the States which is a way too far:-)
Thank you, colleague;-) Going to a feis IS exciting like few other things are, and it's lots of fun, too! Good luck, keep practising hard, and see you at a feis maybe;-)
An addition: having to compete might feel quite scary at moments, but it's certainly worth every nerve cell! I believe there is some kind of feeling about one's first feis that will never be there again, so enjoy it here and now! Cheers from Stockholm;-)
Thank you, you're too kind;-) I'm in the Over 18 group, as can be seen from my age on the profile;-) Have been in Irish dancing for a little over a year, and am totally hooked on it! The ambition is to compete in primaries next year, and maybe do some intermediate stuff before I get too old:-D
I think you danced really well! :)

Would you happen to know who the judge is? One of them looks like Irene Horgan from CT
