  • Aww, I felt very sad for Oliver. Speaking of Oliver, he was our cat when I was very young. My big brother named our cat Oliver because he loved the name from this movie. But now Oliver died because he was very ill. I was very heartbroken. That was where I vowed that cats and kittens are my FAVORITE pets for all time for the rest of my life.

  • My son, who was turning 5 years old, and I saw this movie (in 1988), my wife and our new born daughter could not go. Anyway, he said he liked the song, I'll never forget it. WOW!

  • @creswell4 I'll never forget it either. I loved this from the time I was younger!

  • This made me cry.

  • I saw this movie back in 1988 when i was 7 years old when it came out in november/december and saw it 3 times with my last visit was after christmas day and i had the merchandise as a kid including Mcdonalds stuff to the soundtrack. Too bad it never came out on video the next year as i wanted it and felt disappointed as it took a long time to get to video. I saw it's re-issue in theaters at 14 and bought it on video after years of waiting and grew up on Joel and Huey

  • "Get out there, go and try, believing that you're the guy they're dying to see...cause a dream's no crime, not once upon a time- once upon a time in NY city...Keep your dreams alive, dreaming is still how the strong survive - once upon a time in NY city" I think this is something worthy to remember

  • I have never seen this film but this has got to be one of my most favourite Disney Song. It has that special 80s touch to it. The realistic yet not over done animations, The synth instruments and saxophone. Such a heart touching song. Disney 80s - 90s forever. A shame how things went downhill from 2000 onwards. The only good movie from Disney in the 00s was Finding Nemo. Now it's all about that ridiculous Hannah Montana and those Jonas Brothers.

  • poor oliver :(

  • so many memories in this movie...classic

  • Oliver always reminded me of my little tabby cat, Tony, I had as a little girl... However being the street loving cat he was, he went missing one day about half a year ago and never came back :'C This movie reminds me how much I miss him :'C

  • this song makes me cry a lot for oliver.

it's weird and sad that after all of his siblings get picked and not him, the sign said "kitties need home: free". that started to make me cry, but then when he's left out in the rain, not getting any help from the man who passed by him after the poor kitty mewed and almost getting sucked into a sewer opening after his box broke open made me cry even more.

  • except for pocahontas 2, it's quite sucky, but hey, that's just me.... :p

  • it really is a great movie, i just watched it recently and i could watch it again right now! The music is awesome too, i love th part where he's singing: Keep your dream alive... and so on. it's so great, but in the end what disney movie isn't? :)

  • @sammyalaplaya the new ones =( classic disney is da bomb

  • I have seen the DVD at least 10 times, truly Oliver & Company has gr8 music, gr8 story and gr8 characters, definitely better than The Aristocats and the highly overrated Lady and the Tramp.

  • This is probably one of the most underrated Disney movies of all time.

  • @trollheimer

Indeed! this, Great Mouse Detective, Mulan, Aristocats, Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, Hunchback, Atlantis, Treasure Planet, Fox and The Hound, Sword in The Stone etc. are all underrated gems

  • see what a loves most aboot this film is that the animation is more like a water painting tis just amazing (:

  • I have the soundtrack of this movie and for some reason they don't have the strings playing at the beginning for this movie.

  • Exactly my point!

  • i had never seen this film... oh man...

  • Gosh..poor Oliver...this song makes me misty-eyed every time.

  • Does anyone no if this was put on a cd, and if it was, does anyone no which one?

  • hi, if you type into a popular Music CD website such as HMV 'Oliver and Company OST', you might may come across this song.

    Hope this helps!!

  • This can make me cry. lol

  • Go Huey Lewis!

  • I know this was made in 1988, but the fact that the WTC is in the picture sends chills down my spine. ;( RIP WTC.

  • @Dauntless07 your feeling sorry for a couple of buildings?! how soppy!

  • @Dauntless07 Yeah, from 9/11? May they rest in peace.

  • I am proud to be a New Yorker and I always will be...one of the best songs from the classics

  • Aww. This is up there with the best disney songs there ever was. I love it, always have, always will.

    5 Stars.

  • i love how they drew the opening sequence of the city....

  • I'm 15 and I've adored this movie since I was a child.

    I love this song ^_^ <3

  • Grrrrrr!!! Nostalgia bomb

  • no matter how old i'll get i will always love this song even though i don't live in NY but i want to go there some day that has been my dream since i was little

  • Keep your dream alive; dreaming is still how the strong survive.

  • I favorite music is death and thrash metal, yet this song has a part in my heart with it's tone and meaning. Even though I don't live in New York, I get the message of "Try your best, and you'll get anywhere". You have to work HARD on your dreams to earn them.

Even though the song mainly talks to Oliver, it's just this meaning I get from it.

Cheers from Georgia in the south. No redneck here. lol

  • this was one of my fave songs from the movie i watched it all the time when i was little i wanted to go to new york but ironicley my gf is orinally from new york lol

  • when i was little my mom got me this movie......i used to watch it every day!!! but as i got older my mom got rid of the video but i found it on dvd and i was estactic :)

  • Too bad the first thirty seconds of instrumental music didn't make on any edition of the "Oliver & Company" soundtracks.

  • i used to love this movie i watched it when i was little over and over again

  • I go to school around the area where this part of the movie takes place, although in the first scene showing an aerial view of Manhattan, I live on the island all the way to the left (Brooklyn). The part where they show all the cars passing and then none as it rains... those two scenes are kinda wrong. The sunny part... the city is like that with just 200 more cars passing xD. The rainy part... no matter what weather it is in the city.. there still be 200 cars passing by xD Oh, I love NY ;)

  • =] Indeed.

    Brooklyn Represent! :D

  • I live in NY :)

  • well FUCKING A!!!!!!!!! this usd to be my favorite movie when i was real little

  • OOpps, I meant good :P

  • I wish this movie could be referenced in alot of things. Like Pinnochio (Billy and Mandy) or like Mickey Mouse (Family Guy). This movie was really goo, in fact its my favorite!!! But, it seems like evry other Disney movie gets noiticed :(

  • yeah its really sad how underrated this one is =(

  • Totally.. :(

  • i really love this song, i think it's underrated and i think the songs from oliver are underrated

  • this is just so sad they never make disney movies like this now there just like so retarted and not even funny i wish they would make them again like this

  • Guess what-- I've never seen this movie! is it worth seeing? its always looked pretty good, i guess

  • It's just a better/cartoon version of Oliver Twist. It's one of my Favorite Disney movies, I recommend you see it.

  • definatly watch it its so good

  • I watch it a few weeks ago on YT, I really loved it, but the video quality was bad! I then bought it a few week later, the 20th anni DVD. I watch it with my brother, we really really loved it, it was really fun! I like how it is just b4 the legendary disney renaissance. Its really underrated i've noticed /=

  • yeah i agree, Disney has really gone down the shitter, and this is coming from a 19 year old, I've yet to watch all the different older disney movies because I didn't realize how good they were compared to the crap we kept getting force fed to watch now, I think they should go back to doing hand drawn instead of computer graphics imaging for at least one more movie

  • At the same time maybe should try making the cell animation as good as the CGI and cell shaded CGI that have today.

  • I wonder where Jerry, George, Elaine, and Kramer are.

  • This movies making me Thirsty!

  • theis part is soo sad. i would take oliver who wouldn`t

  • it is my two kittens that my sister and i have where barn kittens from and old neighbor and friend who is always over run with them he gives then free to anyone who would take them cause he feel bad when they end up atacked by dog and hit by cars or trucks on the highway but im happy i just found 2 other kittens a home :D

  • I love kittens! They're cute! Oliver is a lonely orphaned kitten.

  • gosh this movie used to make me cry when i was little, poor oliver,i'd take him,hes too cute!

  • that was my childhood

  • mine too

  • there is a sequel

  • no there isn't a sequel, its one of those films where there has been rumour of it for a long time but it isn't currently in production

  • dang good ol days

look at disney now. theyve changed so much... the pitty

  • This WAS my childhood.

  • I love this song!!

  • This part always makes me cry. :(

But really, who wouldn't take a free kitten? Really.

  • Does anybody else get a little teary watching this? lmfao. My childhood <3

  • poor oliver...

  • The part where Oliver gets flushed out of the box really dosen't give you a good overview for the rest of the film. It's so sad. If I were one of those people looking at the kittens I'd pick Oliver out. He's so ADORABLE!! It makes you just want to jump inside the screen and cuddle him! I have been watching this film since I was only like 5 and still love it. Whenever I hear Why Should I Worry, I just can't resist singing along!

  • Whoever put out the box the kittens were in should have taken Oliver inside for the night. Sheesh.

  • AWW poor oliver i would so get him if i was that guy in the rain thats just mean not to and he almost died poor kitty

  • thats gutting, nobody picked him because he is ginger. LOL

  • ROFL

  • i love this song & movie

  • this is such a great classic song!

If I'm not mistaken it's sung by a great artist also, Huey Lewis. It's a simple yet meaningful song. I LOVE IT!

  • The felling is like wise shared by the population of the city. (I lived in New York City)

  • this song and this movie brings back so many memories of childhood =]

  • one of the best disney classics

  • I want this song so bad you know where I can find it without paying for it,or Signing up for it?

  • limewire

  • oh my god ive never seen the movie, and i dont know the story line, but just this song makes me cryy!

  • It's basically Oliver Twist. An anbandoned kitten named Oliver runs away and meets Dodger the lovable streetwise mutt and his gang led by human Fagin. Then Oliver is adopted by a rich girl named Jenny. Then a whole load spoilers happen :) Charles Dickens + Disney = best Disney film of the '80's. Watch it!! I love it!

  • A great song, there's a certain haunting quality to it.

  • i love this movie i cant help but cry when i watch this

  • Same here. I love disney movies.

    This movie is my favorite!

  • Man I remember seeing this at the theatre and being soooo man that it didn't get released right away... It barely got released like maybe 5-10 years ago I think... Man this movies still hard to watch without getting sad... I guess cause I'm a cat lover.

  • someone should make a video of with this song in the backround dedicating it to the former Twin Towers

  • Exactly!! I thought of that too listening to the song!! That would be awesome!

  • yeah, I was lucky enough when I was 10 years old to visit New York City and go inside the World Trade Center twin towers, I stayed in a Marriot hotel that was right underneath the towers, and I got to go outside on top the towers for the observation deck, and the view of the city at night was beautiful.

  • blah i want this song so bad! itunes doesn't have it, i can't find the cd anywhere...blah

  • Huey Lewis sings that beautifully!

  • Yes he does.

  • For some reason.. this song always gets to me!!!

  • When I first had the cd, this song sounded different

So now I found this, I wanted to copy it on Garage Band.

'Oliver and Company' is my most favorite movie. Besides, my Grandparents, my aunt, uncle, and my cousins on my dad's side lived there.

  • Einfach wunderbar!

  • It is so strange to see the twin towers... It make me feel a little sad to think that nobody knew anything...

  • The same reason I try not to let it bother me. Plenty movies have them in the background, not like they were trying to offend anyone, they didn't have any idea.

  • Poor Oliver!!! *sniff*

  • this is a strong song

and the movie is good and sad but heartwarming

  • This song always makes me cry every time. No one should feel sad, but you just can't help it.

  • This song makes me cry. The movie too... I'm French, in the French version, Sykes' voice is made by my grandfather, so when he dies... Awesome movie, the best Disney ever with the Lion King.

  • Seriously? The French Sykes is your grandfather? That is cool.

  • Yeah, his voice goes perfectly with the movie. ^^

  • Well, I have the DVD and, just for fun, I put on the French track, his role sounded pretty cool. Evil, too, but then again, that's what Sykes is ^_^. Tell him that he did a wonderful job.

  • Wasn't he the cat in An American Tale?

  • Can you upload a clip? I wish my grandad did something cool like that. Well, he wrote a textbook (my mum also did this) that's kinda cool but not as cool as acting.

  • Yes, I can... I'm gonna do that - when Sykes appears for the first time. It'll be online soon. =)

Writing a textbook isn't nothing, still is good you know. Maybe not as cool as acting but it's different ways...

  • Love this song, and the film.

  • This is probably the best part of the movie. It makes everyone cry. =']

  • LOL. I was just about to comment "This song always makes me cry". XDD

  • You're right... Best Disney movie... I think...

  • You are absolutely right mate, I was choking( that's a sign when I'm about to cry), and it made my brothers cry.

  • Huey Lewis is the best! Awesome song!

  • The beginning of this movie is the saddest part. But I LOVE the song! I always have!

  • this used to make me cry

  • I like the song the slow and steady song yet sad but, still great

  • This movie is great.

  • I know it's just like a fary-tale in America right

  • love this song! love the movie! love oliver!

  • this scene always(and still does) made me cry...thanx for postin it.^^

  • Yea sometimes when I listen closely i feal my heart breaking into pieces after all the song has sutch a powerfull meaning.

  • i love this song, its so great and beatiful, rich and full.lthe singer is quite emoitonal, which is good.its good and slow, but i think this is different than the original one, idk, maybne its just me.lol.

  • I always cry seeing this beginning

  • because it sounds so nice.

  • This is one of the sadder openings to an animated film.

  • Oliver is so cute, look at 3:41

  • ATTENTION ALL MUSICIANS!!!

I think i got the chords for this but i need some help,

tell me if im right ok?

    intro; Bb/Eb/Bb/Eb

  • That's sorta how it goes, but it's a bit more complex... It's sorta like Bb, B/Eb7, Bb7, and so on -- do you play guitar or piano?

  • Both thanx !!!!

  • For the musicians, the chords are as follows (note: chord changes every 2 bars)

Verse: Fm(Bb bass), Eb(Bb bass), Fm(Eb bass), Eb(Bb bass), Cm, Ab, Fm, Bb

Chorus: Eb, Fm7, Eb(G bass), Ab, Ab, Eb, Bb7, E7

(PS: if you love Disney songs, the Disney Fakebook is a great investment!)

  • oH OK ill try it right now

  • does any one know the chords for this song?

  • Holy fuck. I LOVE THIS SONG, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL MELODY !

  • poor kitty... is so bad to be the last one in the box..

  • i always wanna cry seeing this film

    its a great film

    :]]

    love it

  • i would of picked oliver... he's orange but then i guess that it would be a completly different movie.

  • The beginning of this movie made me wanna cry for poor Oliver. and it still dose! T_T

  • cry for me, I love this song.

  • man i feel old cuz i remember watching this movie over and over again... but i thought that if i watched again that maby they would pick oliver lol yes i know stupid but i was a kid... oh and i just noticed something, it shows the twin towers, that makes me sad. so does oliver hes such a cute kitten

  • Yeah, lots of things show the twin towers... It's always weird to see for me. Especially when it's some sort of 'future' New York. :(

  • poor Oliver

  • This opening sequence makes me want to cry...or sweep Oliver up into my arms, give him a big hug and take him home, get him warm and dry and love and cherish him to a rip old age!! I don't like to hear cats in distress...it makes me really sad :(.

  • omfg I love this movie, I remember watching it when I was little ;~;

  • I like the beinning of the song in te movie than on the soundtrack, beacuase it sounds moe expressive but the soundtrack versio is oaky. i just wish it was a bit louder though.

  • love it. And it truly shows New york city like that. And its hard to have pets there to. But its a nice place. Poor oliver doesn't deserve to be in that box like that.

  • only 4, you must be lonely.

  • This song is sad :(. Great movie though:).

  • This is such a sad song. ;_; Its my fave from the film. I feel real sorry for Oliver, first he gets left on his own in a cardboard box, then he nearly gets swept down a drain, then he gets soaked, and gets chased by dogs...

  • i'll take Oliver and then i'll have 13 cats.

  • that is a lot, i only have 4 right now!!!!!

  • This song always makes me cry; why doesn't anyone want him? Oliver is the cutest kitty, HE'S GINGER FOR GOD'S SAKE!! I would want him. This is my favorite movie in the world.

  • I totally agree. Plus my dad wants an orange cat. I think maybe the other kittens were getting in the way so they didn't pay much attention to Oliver. When I first watched the movie I exclaimed, "They took every one but him!"

  • i luuuuuuuuuv dis song lol x

  • this movie makes me want to cry.

  • it will a great adventure to take a trip to New york city.

  • I miss this movie! I used to have this when i was little and wished that for once i could go there in new york. and i did! although i didn't see oliver though, lol

  • I love this movie! Loved it ever since I was little, but this beginning part, so sad, I always used to want give little Oliver a homee, thanx 4 uploading!

  • My favorite Disney Animated Film of all time. I'm from NY, and I always thought it was pretty cool to see it in a disney movie. A bit sad seeing the twin towers in the skyline, watching it now,..

  • I just went to NY for the first time ever and this movie reminds me just how awsome it was! I wanna go back :(

  • i love this song but every time i listen to it it makes me cry and then i get all depressed and stuff. D:

  • me 2!

only, i just look at the t.v!!!

    it is very emotional!

  • No kidding, me too........ ;-; It's sad and unfair but unfortunately...

Thanks for showing the video Carribbean.
