  • everyone changes significantly over the course of a lifetime. why can't dredg? after all, they're still dredg. many of their songs have positive messages that we can learn and grow from over time. listen to what they say and let the sounds sink in. i'm personally confident they will continue to change and surprise us for many more years, but their lyrics will always have something for everyone.

  • lol this sounds like 80's pop music

  • first time listening to their new album and all i gotta say is, if they really changed their style then i guess i'll accept it. this songs pretty chill though, perfect music to blaze to <3

  • dredg in unique; beautiful music, beautiful lyrics and woderful voice.sometimes they are weard but thats part of their uniqueness so because of that i love them.

  • I keep trying to get in to this record and just can't for the life of me do it. It's not that I mind change it's just WAY TO different from everything I fell in love with. It would be like a new deftones album sounding like nickelback or something. This is the only track I like and that's only because it samples a song from an older album. I dig the cover art though.

  • I think Dredg doesn't look for high praise but dead silence.

  • I admire their desire to experiment, but i'm not too enthused by their execution. still better than pariah, parrot, and the delusion. el cielo is still their most brilliant album.

  • @gimpyguitarist well said. except ppd is fucking amazing, I dont know what you're talking about.

  • @cheetosfreetodorito1

The problem with PPD, for me, was the lack of technicality that I KNEW dredg was/is capable of incorporating, which El Cielo and Leitmotif had. PPD was catchy and had hints of dredg, but was relatively bland. I mean, Dino could have just been replaced by a drum machine. He was a monster in their first 2 albums. I don't like Gavin's current singing style. I feel he should have retained the way he sang in CWA. But that's just my opinion, and their direction is up to them.

  • ...I'd hit it.

  • How many different fucking versions of a motif from the Waterborne soundtrack are they gonna record?

The same melody was on their last album, too.

  • @Apathesis0 Can't believe they are rehashing shit from Catch Without Arms.

  • This Song is Fucking Amazing!!! I've Been Listening to Dredg Since 2001.... And who cares if its a remix of their own shit... they put meaningful lyrics over a classic loop/ jingle... FUCK ALL THE HATERS!!! go suck on a different band fools!!!!!!!

  • I like this. I've been listening to dredg for about 8 years and they 've evolved just like I have. If I ever stop liking their music I'm sure I'll find something I like better, but that won't change the fact that El Ceilo and CWA got me through some REALLY hard times.

  • If you listen to Matroshka and this song back to back they like flow beautifully into one another.

  • @GoogleVideoMan True Man. As far as I know they were written together since the begginins of the band and were actually one song. I've seen a few old vids where the played it together. Cheers!!

  • in your eyes the light the heat in your eyes I am complete in your eyes I see the doorway to a thousand churches in your eyes the resolution of all the fruitless searches in your eyes I see the light and the heat in your eyes oh, I want to be that complete I want to touch the light the heat I see in your eyes
  • And I quote The Rocker "Loads of bands use drum loops!" - "Loads of elevators play Celine Dion, that don't make it right!" Dredg and drum loops, are you serious? I HATE IT. I listen to their older stuff and it actually has emotion, what the f happened..... It's like they gave up because they weren't getting what they deserve; if they're giving in that easily, they don't deserve fame whatsoever.

  • WOW ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!? They have zero creativity left, they couldn't even come up with enough material for an album so they had to remix one of THEIR OWN songs?!?!? (matroshka: the ornament)

  • @flybikes29 The Ornament has actually been floating around for a while as a B-Side... They just decided to put it on this album. It isn't a remix.

  • @heirofemptybreath It's not exactly a remix, but.. before it never had lyrics. Then they released their Live at the Fillmore album, and they put a few lyrics on it.. and now this one, with a verses and a chorus. So.. it's kind of a remix.

  • @bSpiker85 Well, sounds more like a song they finally finished... But I'll take that. :P

  • @heirofemptybreath I'm still on the fence about the Album, unfortunately, because I love all of their previous albums.

  • @bSpiker85 Yeah I'm with you there. This album has some solid tracks that I enjoy but overall it is pretty boring compared to their previous work. Hopefully they don't pursue this sound for the next album haha.

  • Probably one of my favorite songs ever. Love Dredg so much.

  • Dredg usually create albums with a theme...maybe this albums theme is the emptiness of popular music. Obviously just speculation on my part, and it would be a risky move if the fans missed it. Maybe Dredg has a lot of faith in their fans?

  • I don't think anyone took into consideration that this may not be a drum computer, but it may have been recorded on an electric drum kit...

  • OMG at the overly dramatic posts below me. what a bunch of sad asses. has any dredg album screamed out to you, omg sounds like the last one only better? Not I. They all say, holy cow they make good music in every way and any way that they want.

anyway, immediately focusing on the positive, i love this song, this album is great and it definitely adds 4 or 5 solid songs to the dredg arsenal of live material, and another brushstroke of genius from these guys, capturing beauty on another canvas

  • This is the worst thing to happen to music since Metallica released Load....expanding is one thing...making an album with no riffs to speak of...no drums...elementary lyrics...and dime a dozen pop star delivery...I'm surprised they aren't in line to make an album with the winner of American Idol or at least be guess judges. Listened to this album once and threw it away...GARBAGE..and I'm glad I didn't buy a ticket for their tour...I'd be surrounded by their new fan base...9 year old girls.

  • @biakaba Any chance you could send me your copy of the album? I'd appreciate it.

  • This song is old ; it was the most beautiful song ever. But their "remix" has killed the soul of the song. This is, as "AphoticAgony" says: the worst disappointment ever... Dredg is dead.

  • this is probably the worst disappointment ever.

  • This is the same history of every fucking band in the world. They need to change, you cannot be AC/DC for the rest of your life.

  • Beautiful song, and I like how it builds upon the already amazing final track off of Catch Without Arms.

  • people don't appreciate the subtleties. this is wonderful music

  • I almost expected Peter Gabriel to start singing. For a second, I thought Peter Gabriel remixed "In Your Eyes". Really now, Dredg? Between this song sounding like Peter Gabriel and "Somebody is Laughing" sounding like Madonna's "Like a Prayer", I cannot help but be disappointed with your new album.

  • Is different but is very good!

  • same song like information.

  • amazing twist to the classic!

  • I am able to accept change but not if it's obviously to get more radio airplay and more commercial at the cost of profundity. At that point the music isn't their own music anymore; it's the music of the masses. Dredg decided to go that way but I won't follow. I simply don't really like their new style and that's why I don't have to accept and buy it. There are single songs on the record which aren't bad but the whole of it isn't my kind of music anymore.

  • Real. Fucking. Music.

  • I wasn't a fan of the new album too much at first, but it grows on you. And this song is 100% what sold me on it

  • @angiefaithluva7x very true. It's a bit poppy for dredg, but I find myself humming a few of the songs. So far i think the stand outs are "Ornament" , "Kalathat" , "The Tent", and "Somebody is Laughing"

  • the songs are OK. but ok like you hear alot these days, i can think of so many bands who make this kind of music, and can't think of a single band when it comes to El Cielo or Catch Without Arms... i miss you Dredg :(

  • People will like it in time. It sounds good from what I hear. They did warn you guys it would be a pop album anyways.

  • thing about their new shit though... i agree they are writing music they want to write, but they are writing it in an attempt to be mainstream which means: they dumb down the songwriting... I have listened to the new record about 9 times.. and it sucks

  • I actually love the new album, but this has to be my favourite song off it.

  • People need to understand that Dredg make their OWN music, which means that THEY can do what they want with their music. They didn't start their music career making music that other people wanted to hear. They made music that THEY wanted. People change, and so does their music style. Accept it or leave it.

  • @CordillaMusic Totally agreed! :)

  • @CordillaMusic Well, if they want to make this music, they sure can, but if they release it, one should also be able to have an opinion about it. And I really don´t think that they made this kind of bullshit music because they like it. It sounds like they want to win new fans....little emokinds maybe. But to me, this not music that comes from within and was made because they love music. This sounds like all the other dead, crappy douche music.

  • @Altahmirdochlatteman If you think Dredg wrote a song like this to pander to crowds of less discerning tastes, then I think you've completely missed the other incarnations of this song, the likes of which grew into this (the outro to Matroshka, the more minimal version found on Life At The Fillmore, and the live version from Spin's "Liner Notes" session with Salman Rushdie.) Odin forbid a band, especially one that's been around for 18 years, depart from their previous sounds.

  • @CordillaMusic i agreee grate band¡¡¡¡

  • @CordillaMusic Yes..but you aren't going to get anywhere replacing your drummer with a computer and making pop crap. Dredg died.

  • @CordillaMusic You are right, me along with thousands will leave... dredg pela pepinos now

  • @CordillaMusic +10 thumbs up

  • @CordillaMusic It's true, but its like telling a child an all-star track runner last place is just as good as first place, when they're a first-place runner. Dredg has epic talent and skill, its been proven throughout their albums, and their live shows even more-so. Its a sub-par album, we all know it. "change" or not. Everything from the recording to the songs that just drain on with no real instrumental execution. But I hear what you're saying, they can choose whatever direction they want

  • @CordillaMusic

Many don't like this new album because of obvious forced change.

Fact; Their paycheck writers want profit, and unfortunately, that can only come with mass appeal.

What easier appeal than to look at mainstream?

Hip Hop Producer Dan The Automator.

The problem with the above sentence is Hip Hop.

Dredg was never, and should never have become anything Hip-Hop.

This song is the most liked, and viewed from this album because it has dredg in it.

    It's why you're commenting here.

  • @TheImpersonatorVEVO

"Dredg WAS never, and should never have become anything HIP-HOP"

Gavin used to Rap in their Conscious EP... just saying...

  • how is a song that was recorded live 6 years ago better than the "original" oh wait... the live version is the original... never mess with the original!

  • I have tried really hard to get on board with the new album, and I simply cannot. This song is failry good, although lacks alot of the emotion found on live recordings of the song. Dan's production on the guitar and vocals is horrendous. I will continue to support dredg - but I will not lie and say this is a good album

  • this sounds really out of place now...

  • The only good song on the album, mainly because it's a throwback to Matroshka.

  • i like this record. accept change! high five dredg!

  • @Cfridgie Couldn't agree more, I love the album, lots of backlash from people saying its crap but guess they've no patients when it come to new music!

  • The best track from a very mediocre release.
