I am also going to play for her some of All Angel's songs also and see if she likes them.

This version is definitely beautifully sung and recorded. But the original wiil always be superior cuz it's the pain behind Chris's voice that makes this song so powerful and relateable. Especially on the lines "At number and figures" and "Science in progress". This version is a bit too clean, but incredible nonetheless.

My feelings exactly. It is indeed a lovley sound, but for me, it really lacks the emotional depth of the original version. Also, I personally prefer the original music as well, it's a bit calmer and heavier, and I think it suits the song and it's message best.

Anyhow, still a great cover, I enjoyed it a lot. ^^

its really good-- i love the harmony, which does add a further depth, at times a piercing depth, to an already heartrending song. There is emotion in their voices. I don't love it though, the ending is sadly over-blown. If only they could have toned down the orchestral swell. I feel like that cheapens it.

personally i was never really interested in the coldplay original version of this song but when i heard this version i loved it! a beautiful arrangement and the soft piano/string accompaniment doesn't overpower the delicate female vocals. i love the harmonies in the chorus.... a beautiful version. i would love to do this song with full choir!

Good version. Aimee Mann and Vox Angeli also covered this. They are all interesting in their own way. I'm not at all keen on the Coldplay version, but find it difficult to pick my favourite from the three covers.

I fail to see your point. Composition and performance are two totally different skills, and if I can't find anything worth listening to in Coldplay's version, I'm not complaining about the song itself. Performance is a matter of opinion, as always. You are entitled to yours, and I to mine, and there is room for both. Neil Young composed and performed "After the Goldrush", and for me, Prelude did a far better job, but Neil still did a good job on the composition.

Excuse me, but this was transcribed for 4-parts SSAA with piano and strings accompaniment. It is naturally different then the original and I say it does a spectacular job at holding a candle to the original as the original is only one voice with guitar and bass. I think you're not particularly keen on how brilliant the transcription (thus the composition) actually is.

I personally think that the original is supposed to sound a little broken. I mean, Martin's character in the video just lost his girlfriend. Would you sing like this a couple hours if you lost your girlfriend? (Go see the video to see what I mean) Making it sound like this makes it sound too ... for lack of better term... the song that would be played at a wedding. The original is much better.
