Very informative video! Thank you for all the info. gotta say, the AAX's are very good for loud genre's; I like that you referenced "breakdowns" for metalcore-post genres. Question though, which HHX hats would you say are the most versatile? I do play mostly rock/metal, but I have a sweet tooth for jazz, it's just pleasant to listen to / play. Are there any hats that would be good for both? Maybe with a dark wash but crisp chick? A friend recommended the 13" HHX evolution hats.

@wootzone yeah the evo hats would be great, or the fusion hats? Something in the HHX or HH range would keep just the right amount of darkness for jazz, but you'll need a heavy bottom for projection. the power hats aren't a bad choice either, i've used them for small jazz gigs!! they're great

Sabian 4 the win! I love the HHX evolution series. Especilay the crashes. I'm looking to replace my 16" AAX dark crash with something that is better for wash riding. Anyone have any suggestions?

@DrumYou2Death anything 20" or over should be great for wash riding. what sort of sound you looking for? there's brighter cymbals like the aax stage ride or darker, drier ones like the evolution ride. Sabian cater for every occasion!

Great video... thanks a lot. I'm having a hard time deciding what I want to use in the studio right now and I'm digging the HHX warmth but I also love the AAX brightness.... Torn between the HHX X-Celerator 14" hats and the HHX Evolution 14" hats. I may just buy the Evoloutiuon Performance set and compliment it with some AAX's... Damn you Sabain for making so many amazing cymbals!!! GRRRRR!!!

@ReisNJake haha, it was a collection built up over a few years, although most are sold now. I've left myself with 2 hats, 2 rides, 2 splashes and 3 crashes.

Hey man I have a 22 Hand Hammered china china. It seems Sabian doesn't make those any more, you know anything about them. It's definitely more powerful than a 19 AAX in my opinion. Crazy cymbal regardless though

Question. Why the prototype? Why didn't you just buy the 3 point ride?

i just liked the sound of this ride when i was looking at getting a new one. it was a toss up between the 22" artisan, 22" legacy heavy or this.

plus the 3 point wasn't released until about a month or so after i got this.

plus it was about half the price of the 3 point lol!!!

ha i wish lol! no i've bought them all myself over a period of about 3 years. my first cymbal was the 17" HH m/t crash and i got around nov 07

and i always but either ex demo or second hand, i think the most i paid for a cymbal was for the hhxcelerator hats and even then i bought them ex demo with a 1/3 off!
