i have a russian dwarf hamster and the same cage as you. when i was first installing the cage, i put my hamster in the wheel and then attached it to the cage. he learned how to climb out of the wheel and since then was able to climb up and down the wheel.
i think your hamsters just dont know that the wheel is up there so they dont think to go up there.
is crittertrail X safe for dwarf hamsters? i mean i heard from my other friends that its not for dwarf hamsters... Anyone having crittertrail please advice!
Also their teeth constantly grow. If you want them to get used to ur hands in a week or so just put your hand in the cage at the bottom, a little bit everyday. I use a big plastic square clear bin for my hammies house as I got tired of cleaning the tubes all the time. I would take everything out and put one hand in cage and worked up to both hands and then arms so they had to run over my hands. They put my palms up and let them get used to running in my hand then I would lift them up a lttle:)
Oh, I wanted to add below, it's called the silent spinner. They love toilet paper rolls with a little paper left on it so they can tear them off. They love loose little strips of toilet paper to play with and use for bedding. They are shy so they need time to get used to their new home. I hope you got same sex hammies or u will have babies. They need lab blocks and hay, like timothy hay. And salt blocks or round ones and lay on bottom, they come in set of 3. And also chew blocks, for teeth.
Nice video! They have a great home. They may need a free standing wheel, they are small wheels on stands that can go inside this cage, My Rob loved hers! They will run up to about 5 miles a night so they need their own wheel probably later. The tubes will need to be cleaned once a week because they run so much and pee. I use care bedding because it is softer for them and absorbs odors. They love veggies small amounts but not much fruit, to high in sugar. And no store bought treats too sugary
Robos aren't great climbers, some are better than others, I have 2 mails that don't like to climb, they won't use vertical tubing. You can try using a small twig inside the tube to help them. But there are no guarantees with robos
my hamster loves that wheel... a bit too much :( he drags so much bedding up there and sleeps... and he also uses it for a bathroom :-/ its really annoying because there are air holes in there so it just leaks through and its discusting
@WhoaJoanna :) This cage is really great for hamsters. It's spacious enough for a single hamster but it's pushing it for 2 hamsters although it seems ok. I had two hamsters inside but one ate the other R.I.P. Other than that, i highhly recomend this cage. Gets a little tough to clean at times because there are so many pieces. By the way, the "space wheel" sucks in my honest opinion. I taped half of the side so it would be less noisy and i oiled it. Ended up getting a silent spinner inside
@WhoaJoanna well when the hamster first gets in, the slide will be a mysterious thing for him or her so yea hell sit on it sometimes but eventually will know to climb up and down to reach the wheel. sometimes they sit in the wheel ;)
The tube is ribbed so they can easily get in it. If they haven't gone in it, it's just because the don't like it. I personally don't like the xtreme wheel because it's not 'easy access' to hamsters. They'd rather just go in a wheel in the cage itself than this thing. Some love it, some don't.
@Jade161588 Thanks for the comment. I've had these for at least 3 months now and they're really used to the cage already. They jump everywhere and i got the silent spinner a week after i got the hamsters. (:
@219ultimo yea my girlfriend just bought the Silent Spinner wheel today. Thanks (: The sad thing is, they don't even climb up to the wheel in the picture.

My boyfriend and I are looking into this cage for our hamsters.
Would it be a waste of money in your opinion?
My hamster loves to run, So she might make use of the "space wheel" as I like to call it.
But she is quite small so I fear she wont be able to get into it.
My boyfriends hamster pretty much does whatever my hamster does cause he is in love with her.
;)

@2luviz2h8 Makes sense, How about the slide? was that put to use? I figure mine would just chill on it.
