  • FIRST, You always disconnect the power to the outdoor condenser before using water near it!

It is also advisable to disconnect the power to the indoor furnace as this will disconnect the low voltage to the condenser.

You should always keep the water stream straight with the fins on the condenser.

Do not use detergents as many have an oil base which would insulate the fins.

Instead, use a mild coil cleaner.

Search: udarrell for in-depth Best Practices air conditioning techniques.

  • Don,

Have you seen the Mighty Pump video from Doctor Z. I think it may be an interesting tool for you to know about.

  • Save on you ac with Cool-N-Save

  • One more tip, Make sure when your cleaning the coil, that you hold on tightly to the fuses!

  • good information for homeowners however you missed one thing. Make sure the power is off to the outdoor unit before attempting to wash the coil down. Make sure all the water has drained from the unit before powering it back up. If you have a spinefin coil unit such as some Carrier, Trane ,or GE units, do not attempt the cleanig yourself you could damage the fins,,,call a proffesional
