Doing it again is reference to secession and at this time there was the outlaw country movement and southern rock which was seceeding from Nashville's burgeoning pop sound and taking money/listeners away from Nashville. Doing it again is reference to secession and at this time there was the outlaw country movement and southern rock which was seceeding from Nashville's burgeoning pop sound and taking money/listeners away from Nashville. And most of the musicians referenced in the song are southern natives instead of sellouts that came to nashville for the money from the north/california. That's the idea behind the song and all the shoutouts to southern rock/outlaw musicians...dumbass.

But it would seem in the long run the southern movement failed becasue country music today is dominated by 'pop-shlop" music and very little air time is given to roots/americans music. As a high schooler in the 70's southern rock was king but clearly that is no longer the case. I have seen alomst every group/singer he references (why Bishop?, he was shloppy)...

I used to go see all the bands in concert mentioned in this song down in south Florida back in the middle 70's. Marshall Tucker Band, Grinder-switch and the CDB used to tour together frequently. Also the CDB used to open for anybody who touring back then. It's amazing how he got chubby while maintaining that busy schedule.
