IS this a DIY or a review. Very little focus was about how it vaped and more about how to stuff your old nasty pods. I thought the idea of an alternative to smoking was to get you to quit and be able to move away from the ashtray not fill it with more tin and crap? BTW just might be a personal opinion but I don't really care about what some teenagers did or how much the paint at the hardware store cost you before you stuffed it into that contraption. Just like this comment ur long winded.
@rielevilnside YouTube can be, almost, anything. The focus of my series is saving money on a tobacco habit. Using nasal snuff in the way shown here does that. Your negative tone is off-base (these aren't "old nasty pods"). Smoking alternatives are NOT about quitting nicotine, but about harm reduction. A worthy goal is to stop inhaling tobacco smoke into lungs. Vapor devices do just that. I use my Ploom every day, with a mixture of nasal snuff and espresso grounds. Outstanding taste and vapor.
@TropBobB I think you are missing the point I was trying to make. Different strokes obviously. I am 6 months tobacco free and used to smoke over a pack a day winston 100's. The point I was making is that the butane is a bad chemical to inhale as is tobacco smoke. I am aware that the ploom isn't smoke but I didn't think that the ploom does a very good job of vapor production which for a person trying to transition from smoking this won't really satisfy the visual and psychological.
This may have already been answered, but how does Ploom compare to "vaping" snus in an E-Cig? Also what is the best size cart./ atomizer to use for snus "vaping"? Can I use this in an Ego-T empty cart and atomizer?
I'd like to point out, for you ploom users that want to refill, Vegetable glycerine (sold in walmarts near the pharmacy in liquid form) produces much thicker vapor than Propelyne glycol. (which I've been unable to find in local stores). Just some food for thought.
I'm glad to see a sort of hybrid coming out. I will admit that I've met people who didn't like ecigs, and this might work better for them. It's nice to see an alternative that doesn't slam the other alternatives out there.
In regards to your comment on ecigs not producing enough vapor, my homemade mod produces enough to knock anybody flat if I crank the voltage up.
I would like to see pricing of the pellets compared to cigarette cost, might bring more to your cause.
Stonewall Java does well for me. I used Pipe Smoking to get off Ciggarettes, then Swedish Snus to get off Pipes, now at Stonewall Java to get off Snus... Hopefully Ariva to get off Stonewall and finally be done with all this crap.
I own both the Ploom, (Which I have had for over a year) and the Vapor King, the Ploom is a pretty interesting smoking device because the flavors are so intense that it is a good casual smoke for a cigar or pipe smoker, however for a cig smoker I recommend the Vapor King just because it is something that will satisfy a cigarette smoker like me. The Ploom's smoke production is not that great, this is what got me, but I do like is that the Ploom does not have the chemical taste like an e-cig does.
@xXxSHOOPIExXx Good comment. I use my Ploom at specific times of the day, much as I would a cigar or pipe -- early in the morning, while reading the newspaper, after supper, late at night. The Ploom is stronger than any e-smoking device I've ever used with any liquid. It's more like smoking! But my e-cigs get 50 times the use. I use them non-stop every day, along with a snus pouch. Among Ploom flavors I like: Gold and Naked.
The Ploom got me off of cigarettes entirely, so I'm grateful to it for that. My major complaint was that after a while, it just simply...stopped...working, It would no longer light at all. I went through three of them, and they all broke. I guess that's what I get for buying a product with the word "BETA" stamped right on the side. End of story... enjoyable smoking experience. Tasty. Got me off cigarettes. Life expectancy of a fruit fly. Sorry, Ploom, but I switched to the Smox e-cigarette.
I hope you guys out there looking for smoking alternatives arent considering this. It looks to me like this product just bakes the tobacco and you smoke it anyway. All the Ploom did was combine the lighter and cigarette into one device. Its super inconvenient to use and only produces whisps of vapor.... Battery powered personal vaporizers are the way to go. Dont take Bob word on the "concoction" its PG/VG (food stuff, FDA safe) and flavor. How is inhaling baked snuff better for you?
@alexjones7777 Ploom uses butane to heat and vaporize; e-cigs use batteries to heat and vaporize. They are methods to the same end. Both produce vapor without combustion. Ploom does NOT create SMOKE. But since Ploom uses moist tobacco, the vapor contains all tobacco alkaloids, a real benefit for some quitting smokers. I use Ploom in conjunction with my e-cigs, nasal snuff, dissolvables and snus. It's just one more option -- and a good one -- to stay away from inhaling smoke.
Bob, I have been using snuff in the Ploom as per your video. The one problem I am having is the snuff/vg coming thru the mouth piece and getting tobacco in my mouth or on my lips. Any suggestions on how to stop this problem?
@greencrow333 I've not had this happen, but the mouthpiece end does collect snuff and needs to be cleaned after repeated uses. Are you getting the snuff damp enough? I've started putting about 4 drops of e-liquid, used for vaping, in the pod that is half-filled with snuff. This produces quite a potent nicotine vapor, but one that also contains all the other tobacco alkaloids missing in e-smoking or vaping.
@youfillintheblank1 I find the Ploom too strong to inhale .. particularly first thing in the morning when I need nicotine the most. So I puff them much like I do a cigar. Late in the afternoon, I'm better able to inhale without a resulting cough. The strength is comparable to some 36mg liquids I've used, but I always thought those had something else added for "throat hit" (which I can do without). The Ploom is tobacco, however, with all tobacco alkaloids present. That is not true of e-liquids.
I've got another question. Do you clean the pellets before reusing them, or do you find that it's not necessary? I just bought one of these, and I really love the idea of using nasal snuff as a cost-effective refill (with the added benefit of a greater variety of flavors). Thanks for answering my previous question, by the way.
@AtheistUndergrad I haven't found it necessary to clean the used pods. All of the tobacco present seems to be used up for vapor. Reusing the pods could be VERY cost-effective, but those who can afford pre-loaded pods can bypass the hassle. With loaded pods, a Ploom is no more trouble to use than a cigar, less so than a pipe. I'll come back to this later, but I've been testing tobacco mixed with ground espresso coffee beans, and mixed with instant tea. For added caffeine, of course. Tastes good.
Your hating on Electronic cigarettes too much. I dont know if you have ever tried one but to me they have saved my life.
The so called "Chemical Concoction" that i inhale is made of of three elements that are all used in food and other consumer products, the PG and VG that i use in my juice is all USP kosher grade, i mix it myself. The flavoring is made in Italy and is completely diacetyl free.
Try them if you like, my pv is a GLV2 (Great lakes vapor)
@pirateliam I do NOT hate electronic cigarettes. I use them daily, almost non-stop. I bought my first one Jan. 3, 2008, so have been e-smoking for more than three years. I was a pioneer member of ECF. I own dozens now, and rotate three constantly. I have e-pipes, e-cigars and e-cigs. I am a reporter who wrote the FIRST major magazine story on e-cigs and I have questioned the world's leading authorities. Try them?? Please view my other videoes ... And they do NOT satisfy all smokers.
@pirateliam I didn't mean to jump on you. But I have been an e-cig user and fan for more than three years. I first wrote about them in a magazine technology column I authored, back in August 2007. Ordered my first a short time later. As for e-liquids, I make my own using 48mg flavorless liquid, mixed with VG and a Bickford flavor (I like Kahlua best). I use half and half to get 24mg final liquid. I've often used 48mg straight, but don't advise that.
Interesting that you like your Bobs, does your unit have the heating chamber where the pod goes sealed off from the gas chamber? I wondered if they fixed that or not
Hey Bob, so glad to see you are making videos again. You are one of my main inspirations to switch to tobacco alternatives. I enjoy all of your videos. Thanks a lot!
@jpoopist Best of luck in staying off products that produce smoke you inhale into your lungs. THAT'S where the primary health consequences are created. I thank YOU for your encouragement. I do videos only when there's something new worth exploring.
Thats fascinating. I have been trying (unsucessfully) to use the IOLITE to be a part of my non smoking regime, but i hadnt thought of using nasal snuff in it. When I tried using rolling tobacco (even one strand) i got very ill and felt kinda like I was overdosing. I hand throught ofnasal snuff. BUT ONE QUESTION, when you say that it is strong, do you mean in nicotie or flavour?
@BespokeGroupUK The "hit" is strong. The nicotine strength will depend on the snuff used, and how long you vape the Ploom. The snuffs I used are relatively weak ones, but taste great. I plan to try stronger snuff that I'll moisten with flavored extracts containing propylene glycol (read the ingredients on, say, vanilla extract).
@AtheistUndergrad In a word, no. There is some slight, initial, odor, that disappears as the vapor evaporates. It does not seem to linger on clothes or furniture. I tested the Ploom for about a month before feeling ready too talk about it; vaped dozens and dozens of pods, all indoors. E-cig vapor is not easily smelled, but some say they detect a faint odor of vanilla or caramel.
One thing I don't understand. Is the point of this just to save money? Cause if it wasn't solely for that purpose,, Why not just have a regular cigar or cigarette lol. I don't really see the big difference. Perhaps the heat is less and you get fewer toxins? What would you say the health benefits would be to using a product that burns/vapes tobacco and is inhaled.
@Guinea54 This is not about just saving money. This is about not inhaling the carcinogens created by the combustion of tobacco. The tobacco in the Ploom is not burned, thus avoiding a slew of identified cancer-causing compounds found in smoke. BUT .. I am not aware of any tests showing long-term consequences of inhaling the chemicals in the vapor. That would be all of tobacco's alkaloids. As Pogo said, "We takes our chances."
@TropBobB Yeah good point Bob, That is what I figured, the lower temperatures... but who really knows. Perhaps the temperature is hot enough to do the same thing as smoking it. I just feel like this particular device is too close to smoking .. This seems like a real good gateway to go back to smoking cigarettes. I feel like you are working your way back to smoking very gradually. lol. But awesome review and very interesting product. You were meant for television my friend
