The PRV V6 is a 90 degree engine. It runs a little bit rough, because the at the first generation the crank shaft journals didn't have the offset necessary for an equal firing order. It's a characteristic sound - of course.
@Klottelitsch Yep!! You just can't beat the sound of a good 604 V6!!! No Mercedes engine even comes CLOSE to the quality, reliability and durability of the PRV V6!!! And You're so RIGHT about the 604 being faster!!! I can't even count how many Mercedes drivers I've left in my wake!!!
@Schlipperschlopper Likewise!!! I honestly and sincerely think that the 604 is a MUCH better quality car than any Mercedes ever built, It handles better, It's WAY more comfortable than any Mercedes I've ever driven or ridden in (Mine has Velour) And it's WAY more reliable than any Mercedes out there!!
I just bought my friend's 1980 604 SL V6 with automatic that he bought new, He's kept it in absolute, pristine condition all these years!! It's always been garaged, And still looks, runs & drives like new!!! I tell you the V6 604 is WAY better than the diesel version!!!
I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and tank clean and rustfree
bonjour La 604 est une voiture haut de gamme souvenirs d'enfance avec cette belle voiture et je cherche maintenant à en acheter un et je vous remercie

Yes I have seen such an engine on Testbench, 2,8 crankes out around 180 PP withot the restrictive aircleaner assembly, its too narrow on the inlet throat.
So replace with wider inlet throat....largely HP increase but a little noisier.
And one more important thing.. a vehicle does not make more horsepower at the driven wheels than at the flywheel. The standard rule for every make of car, boat, or whatever....it is anywhere between 20-30% loss through frictional and drag losses. 100hp for that odd-fire V6 would be expected if put on a dyno.
@Haffschlappe And if you drive it above the speeds i mentioned.. the back-end will lift up if one does not catch it. You can go on falsely believing the SOHC (one cam per bank) PVR has that power. IT does not. But it did/does have a power/torque band that seems more to the novice. And the solid torque tube delivers more to the rear wheels than a conventional driveshaft.
@Haffschlappe And either you have one or a both...a bent rim or as usual a garbage TRX that has a bent cord or some other defect which Michelin passed on to the consumer. I can see you trying to cover-up the steering wheel from shaking at speed. The car will ride and handle better if you dumped those tires/wheels. And install aftermarket Brembo brake rotors etc....they seem to warp less than the original ones

@Klottelitsch THe PVR is a SOHC and it made only 133hp...but the odd-firing engine coupled to 3barrel carberators gave it a unique sound...that engine loved to rev... I should know I had rare (in the USA) 5-speed V-6 and 5-Speed TD...Both met their unplanned demise by being rear-ended...sure coincidence and death of a car. The 604 back end would get reall light on the rear at speeds over 130mph.
No the 2,7 PRV Bosch injection type (like this one here) gives 145 Hp on the paper
and on the rolling road 163 Hp, I have checked that long time ago...the 2,8 v6 injection type of 604 Gti gives 155 HP on paper and more than 175 Hp on the rolling road, boath cars are very safe on high speed using special TRX Michelin tires V-Type and gas shock suspension, no problem to drive over 200KMh
@Haffschlappe The only thing special about the TRX wheel is any one willing to pay for its limited service life. Take my advice and get the 15inchers (same design) from the 505 turbos...etc.
The most that engine ever put out.. out the flywheel was 145-150hp by ASE standard.
Correction.. you dont know the old 504,505,604 Peugeots well enough.. they had rebuilable (double acting) hydraulic shocks.
@Haffschlappe Install an even firing EFI 2.8 from a chrysler product. The Eagle Premier can be had for nothing..minus shipping. Very lean burn injection...plus very simple compared to the Bosch CIS and EFI SYSTEMS. The Chrylser EFI is so damn reliable...none of the crap associated with Robert Bosch. Chrysler ran short of engines when their minivan ended up being a hit. They ran short of engines and when they took Peugeot bail-out money in 1978-1980..they had to step-up.

you are right 604 has better engine and better sound also faster!

today i measure with my 2,9 Litres 604 Gti 0-100 KMH 8,4 Seconds and 211 KMH top speed (Handshifted 5 Speed)!

@Klottelitsch
thats true 2,8 Gti in good stock condition cranks out 180 HP +- 5%

I have seen TURBO PRV engines in DeLoreans cranging out allmost 300 HP..with such an engine 604 goes like Ferrari 412i
Klottelitsch 1 year ago 4
My 604 Gti is as fast as Lancia Thema with Alfa V6 Engine.
Klottelitsch 1 year ago 4
@Klottelitsch
I allwys prefered the V6 PRV over any Alfa Romeo or even Ferrari 8.32 engine, the sound of PRV with good exhaust is best of all.
Pnoerre 1 year ago 5
Well my 2,8 Gti has 176 Hp on rolling road (Bosch) without any mod, car goes 210 KMH on top and 8,4 sec 0-100 KmH, I have 5 Speeds handshifted.

The esthetics of this car are close to Maserati and Pininfarina-Lancia shapes...
very very nice elegance
