Is it me or does it just seem you are overcareful when approaching intersections and passing other cars? Or is it because American drivers do not hear/see you appoach at all or soon enough?
In the Netherlands the fire engines go quicker around it seems.
@FR7JSX People in the US are TERRIBLE and careless drivers.. I was responding to a accident in my patrol car and had to sit at an intersection for nearly 30 seconds because people kept coming into the intersection.
@Hbryant188 Waiting for 30 seconds with sirenes and lights on? Pfff... Outrageous... Every second counts... Must be frustrating for you I assume.
Do you think that people in their cars/vehicles might not recognize sirenes well enough that they are aware a emergency vehicle is approaching? Here in the Netherlands, you can not be mistaken that one is coming so you already know what you can expect, you already take precautions when hearing a sirene, slow down, watch mirrors if it is behind you
@Hbryant188 Is it not a criminal offense to hinder emergency vehicles, what happens with people who do not move over soon enough or obstruct emergency vehicles? Do you get a fine or will you be prosecuted in court?
if i see a fire truck or ambulance and im on patrol and am not buisy with something els, ill normally follow them, call my dispatcher find out where they are goinand either
A- go in front of them and clear the road, or
B- follow them and pull assholes over for not pulling over for an emergency vehicle
Wish the cops here would do that. They will stop traffic for us, but I've never witnessed them pull over someone for failure to yeild to an emergency vehicle.
some many people dont pull over here its ridicoulus it dont matter if im in the ambu with dual sirens phsr and wail with horn people dont stop and dont look.....
i dont know where, but i know in the south, not many people do pull over for emergency vehicles, ive seen that, i know its a law here in cali, im sure it should be a law everywhere, but if its not, they really need to reconsider...
it just came into effect a law here, if theres a median in the middle of the street and the emergency vehicle is on the other side, you still MUST pull over... that i personally dont get, esp if its a raised concrete median
that wasnt to the video. that was to another comment made by a cop saying he runs blockers or pulls people over that dont yield to emergency vehicles. i do this kind of response almost daily.
@2007tacoma Over my scanner I heard a cop pulling someone over for not moving out the way of a fire vehicle... don't believe it was POV though; still, how often do you hear / see that? Thanks for supporting the FD sir!
@siafulinux where im from, a lot of the time our dispatcher does dispatch us to respond to locations fire/ems are responding to, esp at night when half the time all we are doing is pulling traffic stops for possible DUI's or responding to possible prowler's which ha;f the time by the time we get there they are long gone. so most of us on the night shift get along good with fire/ems and happily help them out, either that, or i just follow the fire engine/ambulance responding code when i see them
@2007tacoma That's really cool man. Were I am, we do have good relations with our local city cops, but I've still never heard of nor seen them do what you guys do. Most of the time they, incl. the local Sheriffs department when responding, are racing past us to get on scene before we do. Now if it's something they need to clear I'm happy for it, but just to have that backup WHILE responding would be fantastic. :-)
@siafulinux well where i live, we are also a fairly large city, no POV responders bc all the fire depts, i think theres about 7 around my city alone with a population of 150k people, but we are also between the top 3 "safest" cities in the US, even though its california, and only an hour from Los Angeles
we can't have sirens on our POV here... bunch of garbage. Sirens were banned for first response POV vehicles when people started blaring them at people to fake pulling them over...

What a freaking Jippy Joe!! Driving code on the interstate with semi trucks/School buses= UNSAFE! When I was a volunteer, and I wanted to run calls, I went to the STATION and rode on the FIRE TRUCK!! Much less dangerous, and I hate to break it to you, but having lights on your car is never EVER cool, you look like a tool 100% of the time...and no it doesnt make you look less stupid the more lights you have, quite the oppositte
This is in Austin, texas, no unmanned Dept's for about 60 miles in either direction. So why don't YOU tell ME why it is necessary for this guy to drive code on the interstate, pushing school buses out of the way to go to a call that already has a full crew of trained FF/EMT's, plus a medic unit, plus as many mutual aid engines and quints from georgetown, Pflugerville or Austin as they need, not to mention the 3 Medevac helicopters on standby in Travis and Williamson county...maybe I'm confused.
He didn't push the school bus out of the way, he stayed a reasonable and safe distance behind the bus until the bus was able to clear the 18 wheeler and move into the right lane.
If he really wanted to act like a fool...he could of taken the right shoulder as he got onto the interstate and passed them both recklessly...but didn't
No matter where it is. If the deparment that a person is on grants lights sirens and or signage i say go for it. no what about the people like me that your state regulates on the use of blue flashing lights and no sirens. i go to school about 15 min from my firehouse. if i couldnt run lights how would i ever be able to make it on time to ride the truck. i actually had a situation last night while trying to respond on a major highway by me and had maybe a hand full of cars move over and let me through.
we get no blue lights in michigan only police get blue we get red and white but drivers were I live a cutious and pull over as soon as they see the red lights becuse all the trucks have red lights so they know that it is fire rescue

i agree with lfdlumpy im a vol firfighter in canada and all we got is green lights it sucks cuz half the time they dont even notice u or they just dont pay attention anymore and keep driving, we lost a life cuz of people driving and would not pull over 4 us and we did not make it to the scene on time maybe they will soon get the picture i hope
Great clean response DJM448, good tone change between streets and ramps. Dont listen to the "wackers" on here. I have many responses under the belt and you did just fine. Keep up the good work brother
its sad you can't count cause the video is only 3 min and 58 sec long. where the heck are you gettin 5:30. I volunteer myself and have watched the video many times and see nothing wrong, just to show your prob the type person that dont appreciate what we do for you. I myself have took many hours of mandatory drivers training just to be able to use the lights in my personal vehicle, and im sure he has had to do the same.
@tosserCA see you are the reason why we teach our kids in school about drug awareness and why not to do them. djm448 followed protocol. Now obviously you don't live in a town where you have volunteer FF or medics. So if you did.. and you needed them right away.. is that not what you would expect of someone like djm448 to do in your case? I know I would.
@tosserCA seriously, what the hell ARE you talking about? first of all, there's no 5:30 in the video. Second, jamming WHAT intersection? I couldn't even see a damned thing wrong with his response. I'd personally use it as an example of good, safe, RESPONSIBLE emergency driving. FANTASTIC video djm448! Keep up the gorgeous work!! :D
I live in arkansas and we can only run red/red or red/white with red/red or red/white or red/amber on back----------that is out laws............and depening on what fire dpt. your on depends on weather you can even have lights
It's his own personal car. Some states in the US allow FF's to have lights and sirens on their cars, while others (like Pennsylvania where I live) limit you to only lights, and they're only "courtesy lights" meaning people don't have to pull over, but can if they feel like it. It's the most assinine rule ever....
Yah in Canada all we can run is green lights, and its up to the municipality to say yes and all they are are courtesy lights. Any volunteers should have the right to run at least lights and siren because no matter what, when we all get paged out someone's life depends on our response and to have some cocky asshole who doesnt pull over and slow down bc he see's you just makes it worse.
jmp6753 SAID:Im glad VFF's have to run green lights in my state and aren't allowed sirens. They also are not allowed to speed. I SAY: That also means you don't give a shit if the victim dies because they didn't get their in time?
I volunteer in my state. We run red lights and sirens. Theres rules we have to follow. But I hope something happens to you that way maybe just maybe idiots like you can understand what it is we do.
MOVE BUS MOVE!!! Nice vid...Only blues allowed in PA also...No sirens except for officers...have to be viewed 360 degrees as well...So led dash and decks as well as tir 3's come in handy...Just started decking my Dakota out with a quad dash led, 2 mini phantoms in the rear and lin 3's in the ext cab windows
haha pa is a joke i dont think we have more than 5 guys with full 360 degree rotation. i only have front warning at the moment im gonna get a mini phantom for the back window like i used to have another joke is the blue only theres alot of guys in the entier county that also have white/clear lighting with the blue as i had on my pov you can check my vid ill post it as a responce vid.
your a volunteer firefighter right? Volunteer FF's here don't get to use sirens. Just a blue light that has to be inside the vehicle. May changed soon to being allowed blue/white combo lights, and possibly a siren.
What are you talking about Kraakmo? The only time I saw a vehicle in the way was when the Emergency vehicle entered the highway and the bus was in the left hand lane and the tractor trailer was in the right. The bus may have had children so the bus driver safely got in front of the tractor trailer, singled and then moved over to the right. I don't see what you have to be pissed off about.
in this video yes, however im sure there have been other times where some jackass clogs the left lane for no reason, not only hindering traffic flow, but also for emergency vehicles... there was little traffic in this situation, but when there is more, this is commonly a problem
sorry did not see this one and yes your whright it is big slow down. maybe you could go to you county and tell them.try to get a new county law passed for your county.see how maney people you can get to sing a petition or something like that.
I don't know what State you live in,but in Washington State there is a Law for that. All must stay in the right inless passing. But to me in the video the semitruck was to the point if he would have hit brakes,he would have slowed the responder down. And the bus was on the opposite side of the semi did not see the responder intell he was behind him .yes you are whright it doe's piss me off when the jack ass,s don't move but not every body is that jack ass.some are rong place rong time.just my view
He is in Missouri, them and i think Texas run R/B. Ar runs R/R along with TN, MS. Iowa, Indiana runs Blue, along with New Jersey and other northern states. Although Michigan runs R/R
ya to me its odd for states to uses blue.. it seems as though when you think of a fire department you think red lights. In ar where i live blue like is police only and its a blue lights are a big deal here with all the trouble with impersonators over the years
You do a great job driving on this call. You took u time and wasn't speeding. there are some people out there that think the are god when it comes to lights and siren
I agree, & I tell my members at my station this ALL the time. Your primary goal is to get the trucks rolling! You cant do shit if a POV gets there first
Haha, the kids at 41:00 to 1:06 in the school bus who were in the back must have been like "Oh **** the cops!" I remember doing that in 5th grade on field trips when police cars came by.
when I was on the VFD here in Iowa my response time was about 2 minutes. If I were to be on the VFD in my new town that I loved to, my response time would literally be about 10 seconds, since if you walk out my driveway and across the street you're now in the parking lot of the FD
In Arkansas our lights and sirens are courtesy only people are not required to pull over. How ever many often do so out of respect most calls come typically come at 1 am so not too many on the streets any how.
uh HiramAbiff06 state law in Arkansas is if an emergency vechile is operating lights and sirens you have to pull over. its in the Arkansas Criminal and Traffic Law Manual.
Yeah but still people refuse to pull over for a Volunteer FF because most do not consider us to be real FF'S. People where I live in AR are extremely rude drivers some pull over but most don't. This is especially true during the lunch hour and the evenin' rush hour from 5-6:30 pm and if you're going down I-30 then forget it because you'll never get there in time.
Benton I was at one time a VFF in a little town about 1 mile from where I live I'm currently LOA. It is difficult going code 3 down Mlitary during lunch it is very congested if you are a cop and have a marked vehicle then no problem.
i always knew that it ment personal vehicle...but i never knew what the o stood for, maybe officer back in the day when only the chief took his car to the call...idk
You can indeed have a blue light in your grill, or on your dash. However since your are entitled to no more than 2 flashing, rotating, or blinking blue lights visible from 360 degrees according to the vehicle code. So one on the dash or in the grille... HOWEVER one better be visible from 360 degrees. tear drop rotator on the roof would work for that.
this is the first time i ever seen a pov with red and blue lights and siren. in PA only the line officers are allowed red lights and sirens, every one else have blue lights, no sirens. line officer pov's are considered emergency vehicles with reds and siren there for are allow to drive at own risk, go though traffice lights etc. blue light have to follow same laws as regular motorist. police cars are the only things here that are allowed red and blue lights.
oh i forgot...we're omly allowed to flashing or revolving lights, we would have the state police at the fire hall door if someone had lights in dash, grill, headlights, roof, tail lights ect...even though i like it. lol
yo fireman1 what part of pa are you from?? i am outside of pittsburgh and we have to either be chief or asst chief for red and sirens. But everyone else under them can have anytype of blue they want. Please let me know
yeah i didn't explain very good. your right, chiefs and asst. can run red and sirens, and everyone else just blue and no siren. they can have dash, grill ect...but no more then 2 of them. i have a galls LED light in the dash and deck of my 300. oh and i'm from clarion county.
With such a long response time....did you actually make a piece? Alomst 4 minutes out....my chief would have ripped my ass for responding HOT to the station so far away. Nice job spank.
Do you have your family with you or something?

arstorms 3 years ago
Are you a captain, or chief? Because in I live in PA and I can only run with blues. So why do u have red, blue and siren?
TobyTwsp41 3 years ago
....because i live in MO.

@djm448

Rofocowboy84 1 year ago

egomaniac556 3 years ago
do drive a rescurecar or a privat car? i´m a german firefighter
FFWxx 3 years ago
It's his own personal car. Some states in the US allow FF's to have lights and sirens on their cars, while others (like Pennsylvania where I live) limit you to only lights, and they're only "courtesy lights" meaning people don't have to pull over, but can if they feel like it. It's the most assinine rule ever....
Rofocowboy84 3 years ago
Yah in Canada all we can run is green lights, and its up to the municipality to say yes and all they are are courtesy lights. Any volunteers should have the right to run at least lights and siren because no matter what, when we all get paged out someone's life depends on our response and to have some cocky asshole who doesnt pull over and slow down bc he see's you just makes it worse.

I Agree 100% If there were more than 100% that would be my agreeance Percentage.
rykember11 3 years ago
I think that the media has to educate ppl on POV'S
many ppl think is a person trying to pretend they are police.
They need to post ad's as volunteer fire response vehicles

jmp6753 SAID:Im glad VFF's have to run green lights in my state and aren't allowed sirens. They also are not allowed to speed. I SAY: That also means you don't give a shit if the victim dies because they didn't get their in time?

Hanoverfirefighter 3 years ago 16
I volunteer in my state. We run red lights and sirens. Theres rules we have to follow. But I hope something happens to you that way maybe just maybe idiots like you can understand what it is we do.
matt7106 3 years ago 2
judging by the reflection in the end of the vid, you must have a good pair of lights.

Thirty5TripleUNO 4 years ago
haha pa is a joke i dont think we have more than 5 guys with full 360 degree rotation. i only have front warning at the moment im gonna get a mini phantom for the back window like i used to have another joke is the blue only theres alot of guys in the entier county that also have white/clear lighting with the blue as i had on my pov you can check my vid ill post it as a responce vid.

Skywarn can only use amber. If in doubt, call your local PD

just trying 2 find out since that's what I heard. Thought I should ask him since he lives in Missouri, don't you think?
trndorschteamofill 3 years ago
your a volunteer firefighter right? Volunteer FF's here don't get to use sirens. Just a blue light that has to be inside the vehicle. May changed soon to being allowed blue/white combo lights, and possibly a siren.
trndorschteamofill 4 years ago
u dont live to close to the fire dep do u?

This is what pisses me off about no law reguarding keeping the left lane clear, it is optimal for emergency vehicles
Kraakmo 4 years ago
What are you talking about Kraakmo? The only time I saw a vehicle in the way was when the Emergency vehicle entered the highway and the bus was in the left hand lane and the tractor trailer was in the right. The bus may have had children so the bus driver safely got in front of the tractor trailer, singled and then moved over to the right. I don't see what you have to be pissed off about.
rescue141x 4 years ago
in this video yes, however im sure there have been other times where some jackass clogs the left lane for no reason, not only hindering traffic flow, but also for emergency vehicles... there was little traffic in this situation, but when there is more, this is commonly a problem
Kraakmo 4 years ago
sorry did not see this one and yes your whright it is big slow down. maybe you could go to you county and tell them.try to get a new county law passed for your county.see how maney people you can get to sing a petition or something like that.
firemancurt 3 years ago
I don't know what State you live in,but in Washington State there is a Law for that. All must stay in the right inless passing. But to me in the video the semitruck was to the point if he would have hit brakes,he would have slowed the responder down. And the bus was on the opposite side of the semi did not see the responder intell he was behind him .yes you are whright it doe's piss me off when the jack ass,s don't move but not every body is that jack ass.some are rong place rong time.just my view
firemancurt 3 years ago
i agree
lightbarlover 2 years ago
what state are you in that allows you to run red/blue combined?
theartofdime 4 years ago
He is in Missouri, them and i think Texas run R/B. Ar runs R/R along with TN, MS. Iowa, Indiana runs Blue, along with New Jersey and other northern states. Although Michigan runs R/R
sims7992 4 years ago
Ok. im in Jersey and we can run only Blue or B/W. I knew other states used all red and no blue but had never heard of one that allows both R/B
theartofdime 4 years ago
ya to me its odd for states to uses blue.. it seems as though when you think of a fire department you think red lights. In ar where i live blue like is police only and its a blue lights are a big deal here with all the trouble with impersonators over the years
sims7992 4 years ago
You do a great job driving on this call. You took u time and wasn't speeding. there are some people out there that think the are god when it comes to lights and siren
fireman85n87 4 years ago
"wasn't speeding".... really. Schmuck!
LtDangle825 4 years ago
How come you don't go straight to the fire rather than to the station, wouldn't that give you a faster response time?
benthas 4 years ago
But then who is gonna get the truck? Plus, we have plenty of members where a truck can roll within 3-4 minutes from time received.
djm448 4 years ago
I agree, & I tell my members at my station this ALL the time. Your primary goal is to get the trucks rolling! You cant do shit if a POV gets there first
mutualaidsupplies 4 years ago
and do what? stand there and pick your nose? you gotta get the trucks.
theone2225 4 years ago
Haha, the kids at 41:00 to 1:06 in the school bus who were in the back must have been like "Oh **** the cops!" I remember doing that in 5th grade on field trips when police cars came by.
9oft 4 years ago
you would think of all things a schoolbus would pull over imediatly.
htswst 4 years ago
School bus drivers are just as stupid as everyone else when it comes to emergency vehicles....
Rofocowboy84 4 years ago
I'd kill for a four minute ride to the firehouse. Four minutes is nothing in some places out here in the midwest.
Shrimpy82 4 years ago
when I was on the VFD here in Iowa my response time was about 2 minutes. If I were to be on the VFD in my new town that I loved to, my response time would literally be about 10 seconds, since if you walk out my driveway and across the street you're now in the parking lot of the FD
uncleben03 4 years ago
In Arkansas our lights and sirens are courtesy only people are not required to pull over. How ever many often do so out of respect most calls come typically come at 1 am so not too many on the streets any how.
HiramAbiff06 4 years ago
uh HiramAbiff06 state law in Arkansas is if an emergency vechile is operating lights and sirens you have to pull over. its in the Arkansas Criminal and Traffic Law Manual.
Lafferty15 4 years ago
Yeah but still people refuse to pull over for a Volunteer FF because most do not consider us to be real FF'S. People where I live in AR are extremely rude drivers some pull over but most don't. This is especially true during the lunch hour and the evenin' rush hour from 5-6:30 pm and if you're going down I-30 then forget it because you'll never get there in time.
HiramAbiff06 4 years ago
Where at in Arkansas do you live i'm in Hot Springs everyone pulls over well as long as their not talking on their cell phones that is.
Lafferty15 4 years ago
Benton I was at one time a VFF in a little town about 1 mile from where I live I'm currently LOA. It is difficult going code 3 down Mlitary during lunch it is very congested if you are a cop and have a marked vehicle then no problem.
HiramAbiff06 4 years ago
ah gotcha
Lafferty15 4 years ago
I would bet that that's true in every state, Laferty15.
BombMusicIndstry 4 years ago

might wanna walk slower so you dont have to drive all the time. it would suck.

Not a fan of the horn on this siren, but looks like you have a pretty nice set up. Good to see safe emergency driving!
bradtaylor32 4 years ago
To be honest, I hate the siren horn too on this one. I like Code 3's air horns the best.

Is that a Carson Sc-409 Commander Siren? If it is, is it a 100-watt or a 200-watt siren?
fdnychrisuno 4 years ago
no, sa-380 and 100w.
djm448 4 years ago
You can indeed have a blue light in your grill, or on your dash. However since your are entitled to no more than 2 flashing, rotating, or blinking blue lights visible from 360 degrees according to the vehicle code. So one on the dash or in the grille... HOWEVER one better be visible from 360 degrees. tear drop rotator on the roof would work for that.
Balterin 4 years ago
this is the first time i ever seen a pov with red and blue lights and siren. in PA only the line officers are allowed red lights and sirens, every one else have blue lights, no sirens. line officer pov's are considered emergency vehicles with reds and siren there for are allow to drive at own risk, go though traffice lights etc. blue light have to follow same laws as regular motorist. police cars are the only things here that are allowed red and blue lights.
fireman1 4 years ago
oh i forgot...we're omly allowed to flashing or revolving lights, we would have the state police at the fire hall door if someone had lights in dash, grill, headlights, roof, tail lights ect...even though i like it. lol
fireman1 4 years ago
2* flashing or revolving...
fireman1 4 years ago
yo fireman1 what part of pa are you from?? i am outside of pittsburgh and we have to either be chief or asst chief for red and sirens. But everyone else under them can have anytype of blue they want. Please let me know
skoczy04 4 years ago
yeah i didn't explain very good. your right, chiefs and asst. can run red and sirens, and everyone else just blue and no siren. they can have dash, grill ect...but no more then 2 of them. i have a galls LED light in the dash and deck of my 300. oh and i'm from clarion county.
