better to have them on the steering column being that when you turn it would be harder to get at with the steering wheel upside down.

any driving instructor would ask why it needs to be on the steering column. you're supposed to select gear BEFORE u enter a turn, so why would u need to shift mid-turn? of course, this being a track car as well, standard driving rules and guidelines may not apply :)

but steering wheel upside down, the paddles are accessible again, just with the other hand ;)
