  • Racing the clouds home!

  • 4 am, how did I ended up here? Im up tight, can't sleep at night....well, it's never too late to listen to Marillion. this song burns my deepest core. Fish truly has a poet's soul! thank you big uncle for an amazing master-piece.

  • Fish was, and still is, a total legend. Marillion were amazing back in the day....., comparisons can't be made with Hogarth Marillion....., he brought something completely different to the remaining four, their music is still very good, but in my, and many others opinion, the early era was just awesome. I suppose you had to see Fish Marillion "live" to have that opinion, I did, seven times.

  • @alwaystapetheolive The fish years I feel were the best Marillion. There were no winners when Fish left . He and Marillion lost. I saw them live twice in New York City .

  • What pic is that? Its really good.

  • Awesome....Beautiful work from an excellent band.

Makes me want to smash up the radio when I hear the crap we get force fed today.

  • Saw Marillion 3 times live....twice with Fish... Fantastic.. then with Hogarth...I do appreciate the music.. i do ....just found myself bored half way through.... just didn't hold me entranced like Fish

  • awesomeness

  • R.J Dio and Fish, best vocalists ever

  • this is a class tune! with customary superb lyrics...

  • Adore this song

  • i dont know if Fish is a better vocalist than Hogarth, or not. But when it comes to stage presence, lyrics and depth, Fish beats everyone, maybe except Bob Dylan and Jim Morrison. And one thing is sure: Fish is probably the toughest guy ever in the history of rocknroll. From the 'Fight Club" movie:

"If you could fight any celebrity, who would you fight?" "alive or dead?"

    "Doesn't matter. Who'd be tough?"

"Hemingway. You?" "Shatner, I'd fight William Shatner.

    I'd fight Fish :)

  • This song is up there with Easter and Grendel. Beautiful and emotional.

  • Jesus Christ what a freaking solo, Marillion Rules.

  • Super!!! Zajebisty kawalek!

  • The big difference between the Clutching at Straws album and the other 3 Fishy ones - great though they also were - is the sheer quality of the songs on it.

  • GREAAAAAAAT !!!!!!!! One ot the few good bands in 80s !

  • I am quite deep into metal but these guys knew how to produce that tension and pressure of our metal music, but without making power always necessary. The break/change at 2:35 and especially 3:14 are simply unbelievable examples of how to put the audience into that pressure. Not to speak about what happens after 3:56 - it evolves to such a storm, but it is a silent one. Silent and powerful. Or whatever you may call it, but this is not something that I hear everyday.

    And that voice...

  • @kickniko hear hear!! i have never listened to a band like this, just excellent, tryin to turn my teenage son to these guys!! brilliant!!!!

  • Been hooked on Marillion since 1988, there is very good music but i never heard such beautiful music as marillion makes it. Once Marillion, always Marillion !!

  • Because they were too good for radio or TV

  • Just starting to listen to Marillion now and man, are they a great band :D

  • what's with all the talk about music these days? You come to youtube to listen to a song you haven't heard for a long while only to read a bunch of people dissect it like a frog in a college laboratory. Let's cut out the politics and just turn up the volume.....

  • I've heard prog purists dismiss a lot of bands before, but Marillion? If you discount them you're effectively killing prog, choking it to death with an excessively strict definition, leaving nothing but a stiff and useless corpse of spacey quirky jazz rock, and orphaning its massive brood of devotees, leaving them all to wander aimlessly in search of new musical families that will accept them. Under Fish they were basically Genesis combined with Pink Floyd, so what if they made some hits?

  • did you paint that picture? I really like it... where is it from?can I see more like it?

  • Comment removed

  • I discovered Marillion by accident in which I don't regret at ALL! iN THE 80's Marillion opened for RUSH...which is another GREAT BAND! That night I didn't want Marillion to get off stage. I wanted to hear more! The next day, I brought several of their albums and haven't stop listening since then. Honestly, I do prefer the Fish years more.

  • marillion was commercial when the new singer came, the ''fish part'' has never been commercial exept kayleigh maybe....but i really dont think so.

  • @TheSpacemonkey62 I disagree, Misplaced Childhood is very far to be a commercial album. If we've to follow you, Fugazi is also a commercial album with the hits "Assassing" and "Punch and Judy ?

  • @bouard35 And if the spacemonkey believes that, does that make clutching at straws commercial?

  • @Kageification I really don't care about that, listen to the music, it's the only important thing here.

  • @bouard35 Marillion got commercial when Steve H. came. The fish period had some commercial songs maybe, but that was just 1, or 2 songs on each album, not the whole albums.

  • @TheSpacemonkey62

I wish all commercial music was like Misplaced Childhood.

  • @TheSpacemonkey62 Kayleigh & Lavender are pop songs yes, but the album as a whole is most certainly "progressive!"

  • @TheSpacemonkey62 completely disagree, Misplaced Childhood is non-commercial, a tale in one album and one of the richest in progressive rock from Marillion

  • @TheSpacemonkey62 Misplaced Childhood is a masterpiece! And fuck off all these stupid notions like "progressive", "neo-progressive", etc... It's just a great music! Nothing more, nothing else!

  • Marillion is progresive pop but in a good way, Yes and Genesis were doing barely pop with synths. But progresive pop a la marillion is another way of progression, a progression towards the people while other Abant-garde movements were moving oposite. But making peoples music somenthing like art and making art something to the people not the Same?

Marillion took the art movement of prog and give it down to MTV and the media, cause they are also in their right of having good music

  • epic solo.... Rothery rules.

  • another great one

  • an excelent song, from just an inspiring album

  • Hi! I like the picture on the screen during the song. What's the name of it? Who drew it? And this song is very good, too.

  • This is really good music, Fish is a good singer. I hear not mutch about the new singer.

  • We buy fresh beagles from the corner store

  • They were progressive with a lot of pop elements. Their sound has changed in more recent years.

  • the first 45 secs reminded me of that "you know my name" by chris cornell very much...

btw..is there sth rlly progressive written by marillion? dont know much about the band yet and most of the songs i listened to still sound pretty "comercial" even tho i think theyre listed as progressive...

  • @petra07 Marillion isn't a really progressive rock band, but they've written many progressive rock songs : "Grendel", "The Web", "Script for a Jester's Tear", "Incubus", "Fugazi", "Bitter Suite", "White Russian" ... if we want to stay in the 80's.

  • @bouard35 cheers :)

  • @alexandergenov1984 Absolutement...

  • @petra07 check 'Marbles' album and 'Brave' album

  • I've never heard the song until this moment. Thank you for sharing and greetings from Poland!

  • This track is incredible and clutching at straws is timeless.

  • nice vidoe nice music

  • jonny foster, you my man are a complete cock

  • I saw this tour Marillion & Fish were amazing!

What a good song this is!

Vanaf 4:33.. sehr nett!!

  • these songs dont get played because they speak the truth, the government want to keep people ignorant, people may react to these songs, eastenders is what they want everyone to watch/hear, and benign music with no meaning or feeling. only my humble opinion

  • Well said man. Where do we go from here?

  • marillion and fish for president

  • God, marillion made some great songs, makes you wonder why theyre never played on the radio or mentioned on tv, and oh the shite that does get played!...

  • @wasagoodkid you answered your own question. there's so much garbage out there it becomes the norm and truly brilliant band like Marillion don't get airtime because you have to have some appreciation for intelligent songrwriting and genius musicianship

  • Marillion = Spinal Tap

  • you're crazy! that's groups from a quite different levels.

    Marillion forever!

  • From 3:54 onwards I am in rapture, and by 4:34 can feel my guts churning, by 5:07 I am in tears... Absolutely amazing peice of work. Racing the clouds home... Speechless.

  • Indeed. "Absolutely amazing" is a good description. Leaving us "speechless" is better...

  • 2:56 always thrills me

  • Makes me happy and the more there is more great music out there, the happier I am. Thanks for posting this.

  • guitar solo :)

  • why are you discussing this? It's f**cking irrelevant. Fish is Fish and H is H. Listen to the music. They are all unique passions. I'd love to drink and discuss my love's with Derek (one day) and discuss politics with Steve (again one day). I'm in Australia these days, so no chance unless I paid for the guys to come over. Maybe!

  • hogarth is a cock ... fish was and will always be the heart of marillion end of !!!!!

  • You're a cock you idiot !!!

  • wots wrong kriss27031974 cant stand the truth or you sucking hogarths cock you twat

  • In your head. Yes! Personally Hogarth is the best and Marillion is my favorite band.

  • Apart from the fact he cant sing that well any more! He was at his peak unbeatable but have you heard him lately? Not possible to keep that standard forever. Preferred Fish then to H now but to call the guy a cock is just dumb or did he f*ck your momma or something?

  • @mikeroo99 right after he shagged yours mate .... said he was glad to get the plank off his arse thought he was going to fall in your mom !!!!!!

  • @tjsears68 Grow up

  • @Silmarillion1973 lol grow up bollox we all have our opinions ,,, i prefer fish to hogarth ...... before you tell anyone to grow up take a look at your self ... im not the one wearing makeup thinking he is fish !!!!!!!!

  • @tjsears68 LOL well done Sherlock. That Avatar on my channel is of Peter Gabriel. Like I said, grow up.

  • @tjsears68 lol grow up i bet you mom is so proud of you ,,, the 2 words you can spell correctly ...... dont you have anything better to do than reading things other people have commented on then telling them to grow up .... you need a job mate dole money wont last forever and you cant keep scabbing off your mom

  • Ao meu grande Amigo, falecido : Victor 'Marillion'!! Um abraço grande, where ever you are!!!! Dude: I still think about you! Be Brave! j.f.

  • I guess, it's impossible to compare moreover to mix Fish and Hogarth. They are just differents artists. Each has his own way in the music.

  • Ahhhh, those guitars!

  • From a purely prog viewpoint, THIS is the best song on the album. Great lyrics and power-chord music. And then, the quintessential prog-change at the "buy fresh bagels" lyrics. Leading into one of the best, subtle endings for any prog song - ever...

  • love fish and also SH with marillion.they both still make brilliant music.

  • I love Marillion both with Fish and also with Hogarth, my opinion is that Hogarth matured their music, they are a finer band today. Perhaps like the Fish era more because Fish was with Marillion when this type of music was on top and so more appreciated. Nowadays music is trash and only a couple of bands make decent music, one of them is surely Hogarth's Marillion.

  • fugazi + clutching at straws: two of the greatest albums in rock history.

  • where do we go from here!! A Marillion classic. long live Fish.

  • God, what a loss they kicked Fish out! I totally lost interest in Marillion after that!

  • Please don't scream out lies!!! Fish left the band himself! That you don't like the Marillion with Steve Hogarth is your good right, I don't agree though. They're different, that's for sure. U2 nowadays is pretty different as in the eighties and they are in de same formation.

  • I've heard otherwise - that Fish was too much of an alcoholic to be a part of Marillion, so they kicked him out. But, sure, I could've heard wrong, of course.

  • They didn't kick fish out. He left to pursue a solo career, and even he acknowledges that his alcoholism was getting in the way.

Please, Marillion are very good without Fish.

  • Ditto music that was an excellent show with Los Trios Marillos. The female host was a scream:->>

  • Takes me back to when i was 17... loved Marillion, loved Fish, still do.... whether it is White Russian, Fugazi, Clutching at Straws, Season's End, Easter, Estonia, You're Gone or Happiness is the road....

  • Always in our (still white) hearts.

  • One of my all time favourite Marrilion tracks, from my favourite album.

  • I think, fish and hogarth should both sing in the band!!!!marillion rules!!!only MAIDEN reaches the Quality of this stuff

  • Maiden?.... come on!.they are heavier than this... check Arena or IQ or Pendragon.. pure emotion!

  • You can catch the guys talking about their new album and answering

fan questions this Thursday on Ditto Music Live

    Ditto Music Live

    Thursday 8pm

    Sky 180, Red TV

  • Some people claimed in their comments under this video that "White Russian" is about antisemitism... But then what are the gulags and internment camps doing there? Isn't it really about communism in Russia, camps in Syberia and so on?

  • What it really is about is hatred, racism, and war - no matter whether it's in Israel, Russia or anywhere. That's why he quotes examples from different regions and eras in the lyrics.

  • Well, that sounds reasonable :)

  • I love Marillion from the 'Fish-age'. It's still a good band but, alas, I don't really like Hogarth. But yeah... They sound great, as they used to. Thumbs up, way up, superb piece from a superb album!

  • You are not alone ;-)

  • Listen to Marbles, Afraid of Sunlight, Season's End, Holidays In Eden and Brave my friend, Hogarth is as good as Fish. Don't get me wrong I like Fish a lot, he was playing in my country Malta tonight but I couldn't go but he plays often here as its his second home so maybe I'll see him next year.

  • How come this band is not very well known in my country? (Guatemala) even the rockers here, they do not know Marillion and i think is a superb band.

  • Uzing with quality! why have Marillion become forgotten Sons? They rank with the best of Prog from any era.

Fish left and they didnt 'break' the USA. But surely they deserve better recognition.

  • great!!

On l'entends trop souvent. "Marillion clône raté de Genesis" ... non je pense que Marillion s'inspire de Genesis en effet mais à réussi à créer son style, en se détachant petit à petit du style Genesis et Peter Gabriel.

Quel artiste ne s'inspire pas de son prédecesseur de toutes façons ?

La réputation de clône de Genesis ne vient en vérité qu'une seule chose : La chanson Grendel dont la forme ressemble beaucoup à Supper's Readdy de Genesis ... mais après ...

  • The Uzi is a sub machine gun known for it's cheap cost.

It was used by the "neo-nazi" anti-semitic movement as a sort of anti semitic statement as the uzi is isreali made, sort of like "You Jews will die thank to your own money grabbing"

  • Uzi = submachine gun.

The greatest Fish era Marillion track IMO. Thanks for posting.

  • Fantastic track......thanks for posting..

  • Excellent song. It's about the rise of anti-semitism in Europe, not East Germany or KGB as some of you think. A very poignant song and an important message-here's to you Fish and Marillion!

  • fantastic song....I love it...

  • I was stationed in Germany (Army intelligence) when this came out and in East Germany I saw the Uzi's on the street corners...Fish speaks the ugly truth.

  • sorry I'm french and I dont understand erverything in english ... especially the texts of Fish !

    What is excatelly : "Uzis"

    thakns you

  • The lyrics of Fish are so full of imagery and literary allusions that they are difficult for English speakers! The Uzi is a sub machine gun used by various European police agencies. Fish is commenting on oppression and despair and how most of us just try to ignore it and drink it away or avoid the truth, and how everyone would rather be free 'racing the clouds home" that is my interpretation at least.

  • I thought this song was about the holocaust, but after reading the lyrics, it seems to be about the possibility of another

  • are we sittin on a barbed wire fence (mosley shows up) RACING THE CLOUDS HOME

    FISH ROCKS !!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is very good song, I love it. Thank you!
