I have the sheet music for Jerry Was A Racecar Driver, because I wrote it. Shoot me an email at zipdrum2001 at yahoo.com. I also have the sheet music for the snare and tenor parts to Legit Cadence.
@irishdrumming Haha, yes that's me. I knew the other ones just always remembered Legitimate Cadence. Kind of wished we could have played it once or twice when I got there.
@ebens6 the first 1:05 is Legitimate Cadence. From 1:05 - 1:50 is Dutchboy. Then, 1:50 to the end is Jerry Was A Racecar Driver, though it gets cut off at the end. BTW, this is Brooklyn. And based on your screen name, you must be BenSaladaha. :)
I don't know what the first part is. The middle part is actually two separate cadences, the bass run is called Dutchboy, the other part is called Lights Out. The last section is called Jerry, but sadly it cuts off. I played on a drumline in Lincoln, we played these cadences, if you want music, you probably need to contact Tony Falcone, the director of the University of Nebraska Cornhusker Marching Band
@lnsdrumline09 Ya right kid. Like YOU would know.. my best frend plays the cymbals in the Nebraska band and says your dum. itss DutchMAN not boy AND teh full name of Jerry is "Jerry the milkman." So quit pretending like u know things when you obviously dont!
Also, your girlfriend is hot. I "talked" to her once and we made a HUGE mess. It was everywhere. I'll bring 2 towels the next time it happens. She'll clean it up.
@TheLogan1156 ya?? wuts he gonna do? tell me what a paradiddle is and not be able to play one!? or 2? thats R L R R or L R L L btw. you probly didnt know that.
@lnsdrumline09 First part is called Legitimate Cadence. It was something that John - our drumline instructor at the time (1994-97) wrote for us when we did the march down to Memorial Stadium and back, as well as in the various bowl parades, etc, later on.
While you are right about Dutchboy / Lights Out, we pretty much just called it Dutchboy and that was that. :)
oh wow i downloaded this same recording a LONG time ago! ha my high school drumline LOVED this cadence! we even tried to transcribe it and play it (never sounded 100% right though) if anyone has the music i would really like to get a copy of it
It's called Legitimate Cadence and we played it in the mid-90s. In 2008, a bunch of us got back together for the Nebraska Band Alumni day and played it, as well as other cadences we used to play. Good times.
Contact me via my YouTube profile with your e-mail address and I'll see what I can do for you.

Correct me if I'm wrong drumline alumnus that played this one, but isn't this Legitimate Cadence? We didn't play this by the time I got there in 01.

Wanna get mind fucked? Look up "Jerry Was A Race Car Driver".

But seriously though, the music isn't written down. It's passed down through generations much like an Indian folk tale.
TheLogan1156 1 year ago
@TheLogan1156 Some it is written down, like Legitimate Cadence (1:05 - 1:50). Dutchboy and "Jerry" (the rest of this clip) were taught on the fly.

@irishdrumming I know. I was on the drumline just this past year. :)

did you ever find music for the cadence?

@RSJohnYoPop Nope. Internet yields nothing, and you're my first comment. My fingers are crossed, though.
