  • Excellent presentation! My interest is also Kepler's Music of the Spheres... perhaps an ideea for a future video? There seem to be some peculiar coincidences regarding the planets' orbital data and resonances which are worth considering.

  • @topaz84 Thank you for watching and I am glad you enjoyed it. I find the music of the spheres interesting - also an attempt by Kepler to fix his Platonic model.

My understanding is that the resonance effects are not coincidences, but stable points achieved over long periods of time. Search 'Orbital Resonance' on Wikipedia for more information.

  • Great talk, I love the platonic solids idea, I think I might start a conspiracy theory on the interweb and try to bring it back to the mainstream.

  • @Kamalthewafi

Thanks for watching it Kamal! Hope you are well.

After the talk, I was trying to imagine another astronomer like Kepler, in a planetary system around another star. Perhaps that unfortunate observer finds that the ratios of the planetary orbits are near exactly those of the Fibonacci sequence (1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13...) and decides that *that* can't possibly be a coincidence!

  • @Kamalthewafi

Of course, this sort of numerology was fruitful when applied to potential energies of the electron leading to theory of the quantisation of some of its properties.

So, I was a little misleading in saying it was totally fruitless.

  • @jamesthenabignumber Fair point, this is quiet funny as my father (physics doctorate) refuses to accept anything after Einstein as being true. He wants his old classical physics world back where no dice get rolled.

I think if you are good scientist you just concentrate on: does your model accurately predict outcomes (is it testable). Is it a match for reality is a completely different question as reality is always going to be one difficult experiment away.
