Bill Smith was a member of The Rock-A-Teens, a Virginia teenage group who were a one-hit wonder with "Woo-Hoo" (which went to No. 16 on Billboard in late 1959).
Duane Eddy and The Rebels did it on one of their albums, but it was called "Hard Times". Duane cleaned it up a bit and did a GREAT version, no twangy guitar (bass notes). You'd never know it was them.
Tommy & The Tom Toms (later known as The Bill Smith Combo) started with two guitars, drums, Eddie Wayne Hill on lead guitar, Leonard Walters on rhythm, and Joel Colbert on drums. They began jamming in an old barn in 1959. Bass guitarist David Martin joined the group. With Joe Donnell on sax & Tommy Brown on vocals. The band was now complete. They changed their name to Tommy & The Tom Toms. They recorded numerous singles.
They officially changed the bands name to the Bill Smith Combo in 1960.
This was released in 1960. Strangely, it was reissued in 1961 as by Charlie Jester & The Team Mates, and re-titled "Crazy Baby", on Lanar. Same recording!

Good sound from the Lone Star state. These guys (a.k.a. Tommy and the Tom Toms) played with an unbelievable number of people. Thanks for this one.

Thanks PJ.
