yes true all parties who can enter a candidate for president in all 50 states under the electoral regulations.should be in any national debate along side any other parties,if not garanteed that right is it trully a democracy.
Neither candidate was on all 50 states ballots, but the point is that they were on enough ballots to win the popular election and therefore should have been allowed national attention. Anything less was a subversive by both the Republican and Democratic parties. (and yes that includes Obama)
So lets get a law passed that requires independents to be included in televised debates when they make it on to the ballots of enough states to possibly win enough electoral votes to actually win the general election.
Ross Perot was an Independent who participated in the national debates, but after Ross Perot the DEms and Republicans got together to exclude third party candidates.
Ross Perot was an Independent who participated in the national debates, but after Ross Perot the DEms and Republicans got together to exclude third party candidates.
There is a war hero(McCain)and a possible first black president(Obama). What better way to keep America from even looking at third partys. Not to mention the media exploits the situation by giving these two all the air time and keeping third parties out of recent debates. This makes it seem that there is no hope for a third party canidate and people end up making a uninformed decisions. "When they own the information they can mend it all they want" -John Mayer
There is no doubt that there is a huge bias against alternative parties in the United States. Ballot access restrictions, gerrymandering, franking privileges, campaign finance laws, exclusive debates, biased media and so on, favor incumbents and make it virtually impossible for people who do not belong to the Republican or Democrat parties to compete. The Republicans and Democrats are two wings of the same bird of prey. Alternatives to them should really be called "second party candidates."
Firstly you have to have lots of money to become even a credible candidate and to do that you have to suck up to certain interest groups.
Furthermore your political connections and background also make a difference, So unless you're part of a political clique then you're message essentially becomes irrelevant, marginalized and drowned out by the corporate media which panders only to the candidates with money and the right connections.
Obama will be no better than the Bush administration. Didn't you see his recent speech in Berlin? He may be the lesser of two evils, but he's still a neocon globalist.
Both the US and Russian democracies are fraudulent. But its really hard to argue which one is better. Just look at the sheer facts: there are 4 major parties presented in the parliament in Russia not 2 like in the US. All parties are allowed by law to participate on the TV debates (for example it was 20 parties in 2004 election on the TV debates). All parties are given free airtime for their ads paid by the government (so big and rich parties dont get too much advantage over the smaller ones).
QUOTE Jizuschrist : "As bad as the American system is, The Russian one is far worse."
ummm according to who's opinion? At the moment I do believe there is MORE freedom in Russia than here in North America. Atleast RussiaToday is "allowed" to report the news. The MSM here reports lies, distortions, and propoganda...and kept SEVERAL presidental candidates OUT of the spotlight ...for obvious reasons...so WHO'S REALLY FREE??
Established parties always get preferential treatment in most countries, Its not just the U.S many lands set a criteria to what constitutes a official party, What Nader and Baldwin are complaining about is that the bar is set to high, The requirement is 15% support. There is no law prohibiting Obama and McCain from debating the 3rd party candidates , Is just that their not required too.
You are very right about the Russian media. A friend of mine works on one the major Russian TV channels and he told me a lot of stories about how biased they are.
But you also mentioned rallying and I have to say that its really hard to argue that the US citizens have more political freedom. Ill just copy paste some facts about the Russian electoral system that I stated above:
There are 4 major parties presented in the parliament in Russia not 2 like in the US. I am a member of one of the smaller parties and we will need 5% to get into the parliament in 2011. The victory for us is very possible but I dont think that we would be able to get elected if we were a small party in the US.
The announcer here is totally misconstruing the third party debate. Foreign policy, fiscal policy, the constitution and most other major issues were focused on. And the fact that there is no third party coverage in this country has serious implications for democracy in America.
oops i keep getting stuck on just the political aspect but you can thank the ford foundation and council on foreign relations for the consistent edits
yeah no shit..you can thank the corporations and lobbyist for succesfully buying everyone off again..what a bunch of horseshit..they totally don't represent the people anyway..selfish bloodsucking leaches
Who cares what Russia Today thinks? Why doesn't it write about the problems of its own government and people? No country is exempt from political corruption and civic injustices. People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Vote Nader/Gonzalez '08.
I care about my country that's why I'm voting for Ralph Nader. My suggestion to Russia Today is to clean out your own closet before looking into mine. Vote Nader/Gonzalez '08.
Why does Russia care but in all fairness this is why it is how it is.
There's HUNDREDS of political parties in the US but until you grow large enough nationally the national media doesn't take you seriously. There are plenty of smaller political parties who control certain areas in the United States.
If these parties want more acknowledgment they have to RECRUIT more people NATIONALLY and get more donations.
The media isn't a government entity and isn't obligated to every candidate.
im voting third party in california.. screw the axis of evil

I don't think the Russian press is any different then their American counterparts when it comes to spin and distortions.
I presume that your one of those conspiracy theorists?
The day that the internet is censored and free expression is restricted , Only then will I by into the notion that things are going Orwellian.

Why is it worth?
We have multiparties system.
To enter our parlament your party must get 5% at elections. Your party will get 5% of places in parlament.
In our parlament now:
Communistic patry - 25%
Edinaya Rossiya (Putin's party) - 52%
LDPR - 12%
Spravedlivaya Rossiya - 11
I voted for Edinaya Rossiya, because it's the most serious party. But i don't like the fact it has more than 50%.
By Eltsin we had 10-12 parties in parlament and no one party had more than 30%

The americans don't have a parliamentary system, Russia is a parliamentary republic. The U.S works on a presidential/congressional system.

In 1994 Bill Clinton & Dole agreed to changing the law to block access of third party candidates
This was in fear of Ross Perot who had received 1 out of 5 votes; and thus qualified for 30 million tax dollars
The USA has one more choice than Old Communist Russia!
