  • i have the hv20 its an awesome cam but still learning it.

  • will this work on the new mac's the only reason why im asking is because i have a jvc hd1-u and that does not work, so if you could let me know that would be great

  • Sweet filming, your dog's really cute

  • Anyone knows whats the title of the music that is playing in this video? I was watching this video in the past in much better sound quality. Maby they remove the original version of the version.

  • enter"&fmt=18" for even higher quality

  • we know -_-

  • because this is the original.

  • why is the quality of this so diff from the replied one?

  • I just ordered one for $700. I was going to get the HV30 for $300 more, but instead spent the $300 to buy a wide angle and telephoto accessory lenses. I think I'll enjoy those more than the modest additional features on the HV30.

  • lol exactly what i did last week mine comes in tomorrow so exited

  • wow I'm getting one for $400

  • whats the music please

  • hv-20 are very hot now.I oder one for 399 and they call me back with all kind of story that it was going to be in chinse.long story short got it for 699 did not try it yet.now I have to upgrade computer or get a mac the new stuff wont work on older o/s then we will be up and running.thank for posting.

  • lol...u paid 399 and actuall yexpect to get an hv20? lol...always buy from bhphoto-com or buydig-com when buying cameras or expensive electronics.

  • funny you should say that because that,s wear I got it from I think it was$899 package. You can buy it for 399 but you have to read japan. any way one big problem with it dose not upload to our Imac every time about90% of the time very bad.thanks for the reply

  • know any websites where you can you get it if you can "read japan" 1dock?

  • how I came across the camcorder was I type in google HV-20 best price and some on line stores were saleing them for 399 I think it was a form of bate and switch.too good to be true.good luck.

  • lmfao to the comment below me

  • Great video but you need to take care of the nails before your dog get badly injured. What about mowing the lawn too?.

  • lol, r u serious? thanks "mom", lol.

  • can you post sample footage with real audio in the backround and NOT music? i just want to see what the audio is like.

  • no, have too much client work to be done to do that, sorry. plus, onboard mics are always horrible, get a shotgun or boom mic at the very least. Even $10,000 cameras require separately purchased audio/mics.

  • is a sm57 ok?

  • music sounds like 56kbs mp3

  • currently $719.99 at circut city

  • $689.95 from B&H (most reputable/trusted photo video dealer on the net)

  • also $675 from buydig - and i buy from them all the time.

  • Nice quality.

I also wanted to watch the HD-version from your website, but all I get is 1 frame every 10 seconds xD

Seems like my notebook is too slow for HD

  • yeah, it is fluid. watching them on my imac 24" 2.4ghz 4gb ram, no framerate problems. is it because you tried to stream it? maybe try downloading it first. :)

  • NICE, YOUR DOG IS THE BEST!!!

  • Music: Tosca - Gute Laune

  • Im like super excited. I just bought this camera and judging by your videos it is a niccceeee one ;] I love the quality and aspects of this camera.

  • I know this is hd but can u burn dvds in standard definition because i dont hav hdtv?

  • yes. there is a feature on the hv20 called "dv locked". just turn that on when you capture, and it will capture in standard definition even though you filmed in HD. But keep your original tape. you can always go back and capture in HD if you want later. :)

  • In iMovie you can edit in HDV and burn to iDVD and it will come out as a standard DVD that will play in regular DVD players. The video will look better than working from a SD project. I only have the HV10 but the HV30 just came out so I'm thinking about adding it to my collection.

  • terrible sound track

  • yep, Apple compressor settings were off...check out my wedding clips. used Adobe premiere pro to export the, audio is perfect.

  • perfect nice shots

  • there is still a lot of jerking in this video, what's up with that?

  • handheld plus high shutter speed.

  • HA HA HA!!!! Screw the XHA1 and HVX since I can't afford them, and secondly, because the HV20 is king!!!!!!!!! Awesome video, thank you so much for justifying my investment on the HV20! Your shutter demonstration is unbelievable! Those shots are simply...(I'm lost for words)...

  • yeah, when it comes to image quality, the HV20 does hold it's own (except in low light - lots of grain), but still, the manual controls right at your fingertips (like those of the XHG1), and not embedded within a menu would be nice. However, if you are shooting in a controlled environment (i.e. external lighting) or outdoors, this camera is great.

  • oops, meant to hit reply, not remove, sorry....anyway, im busy all weekend editing. have three project that need to be done by next friday, so ill be editing from, sunup, PAST sundown.

  • The autofocus really does the job of a 35mm adapter, but just too quickly. Is there a way to make it not so "instant"?

  • well to answer your question, yes, you can change it from instantAF to normal auto focus in the menu. however, a 35mm lens will provide constant depth of field, no matter what the distance you are shooting...up close, far away, in between...can't get that with just the camera's built in focus features, that's why a 35mm adaptor is desirable.

  • What adapter would you recommend for the HV20?

  • reall depends on your budget....the brevis35 is the best in my opinion because it loses the least amount of light, which is the MOST important thing with video...LIGHT!

  • Is it a challenge to get the HV20 to focus on the Brevis' ground glass? Also since the HV20 (unlike higher end cams such as the A1, HVX) loses many of its settings when you power off (exposure lock, etc)...how do you get consistent white balance, etc with the 35 adapter? Thanks.

  • no, the brevis35's focus is just as good as stock lens focus. there is no fix for powering off and maintining settings, however when you have a SD card in, it enables features like using the photobutton for aperture/exposure locking.

  • I meant manually focusing the HV20 onto the GG of the Brevis, not the focus of the 35mm lenses.

  • that isn't how 35mm adaptors work. you dont have to focus on the glass, then focus the lense. the lense focus acts as the master focus. you only have to adjust that one.

  • I understand how they work, but you first have to focus the hv20 itself upon the ground glass (projection screen) of the Brevis after which one can use the 35mm lenses for focus.

Do you have a rail system for your setup? Also do you use an external monitor to pull focus?

    Thanks for all your comments.

  • then the brevis35mm is different from others. i have also used a redrock m2 micro though, and once the 35mm is attached u do not have to use any of the incamera focusing to focus on the ground glass image. on both the m2 (which i have used) and the brevis35 (which i own) you only use the focus on the lens.

i use canon L glass (24-70mm) lens, so i have AF-confirm. i dont need an external monitor. it's a $1,500 lens, and can grab it's own autofocus since i use external power.

  • Can't say I understand how the L autofocus helps you properly pull manual focus on near/far subjects using DOF. The HV20 monitor is too small to resolve proper focus details.

However I would LOVE to see any footage you have (links) using the L lenses, which are truly fantastic.

  • the canon lenses have what is called "AF-Confirm" meaning when something is in focus it will bling a red square/or beep depending on what camera body you are using it with. when you have the powered step-up ring adaptor for EOS lenses, you can utilize that AF_Confirm feature...no need to look at the LCD or have an external. you can see the red square flash int he viewfinder. so even if you have bad vision, you know you are in focus.

  • That is exceptional. So you look in the HV20 viewfinder when focusing and look for the red square when focusing from one subject to another? How about say a tree in foreground and person in bknd...you dont move the camera but change focus from tree to person with the L lens. How do you know when either one is in focus?

Also...any footage links? Also do you use rails? I would imagine you must with such a big lens. Thanks.

  • yes i use rails, spider brace/mount when in the field, otherwise i use a manfrotto/bogen triopod with the 501head. the AF-Confirm is alwasy on, so when i turn the focus wheel (i use a follow focus), the black squares flash red when i reach perfect focus.

  • Also how you do process your 24p pulldown? I have had TMPGenc recommended and it does a good job but takes FOREVER to process.

  • i used premiere pro, it does it automatically during render, but lets you edit the footage like any other footage until you are ready to render.

  • I don't think Premiere will remove pulldown on render unless you have a Cineform product installed (AspectHD, for ex)

  • I have an HV20 sitting in the room next to me, yet it's not filming such beautiful things. Name of song please!

  • "Gute Laune" by Tosca

  • wonderfull vid man thanks!

  • well done

  • Great video... thanks!

  • haha thanks, he's a lab/boxer mix and his name is Pete ;)

  • I LOVE DOGS !

  • i did it when i edited it, in premiere pro 2, you can't do it in camera.

  • how did u do the motion 35/100 slo motion was it the hv20 of the software

  • ok, finally someone knows how to showcase the potential of the camera. the quality looks awsome! thanks for the post.

  • thanks. i'll be posting another hv20 video soon, along wth the HQ link to my webspace so you can downoad the higher quality verison. it will be about ants! :)

  • What's your NLE workflow with this camera?

  • Capture/Edit in Premiere Pro, Export in MPEG2 DVD ready files (using Adobe Media Encoder), Author in Encore (no conversion needed since export from premiere is already in compliant files (saves time and produces best quality since only one convertion/export made in entire workflow)

  • Did you have any problem capturing with Premiere? And what did you bring in, 24p or 60i?

  • capturing? no, that's the easy part. this was 60p, yo ucan view my ants video, that is 24. both work fine and natively in premiere pro 2, and i can export to 1929x1080 (see the web link in the video details for HQ downloadable versions)

  • oops, i accidentally hit "remove" instead fo "reply" on the comment asking for the song title, anyway, here it is..."gute laune" by tosca on album "dehli9"

  • i never used manual forcus, all "instantAF" auto focus. and simarql, this is hv20 out of the box (unless noted in the text on the bottom right), no adapters/lenses, etc.

  • Hey, great video. I loved your depth of field shots. I didn't get as nice of results as you, still figuring out how sensitive it is. How did you get it to focus so quickly and so precicely when in MF? Anyhow loved your video, great camera, I love mine so far!

  • i wonder why no one elses hv20 footage looks this good? There is something else going on here. I mean some of your shots are quite jerky and there is no bluryness at all.

  • I just posted a little 1min video I shot. I didn't notice any blurriness when I was shooting with my new HV20. The camera works awesome!

  • could be that i capture/edit with premiere pro. i know it handles HDV better than final cut, and most people on here use final cut, but it really IS a great camera though, and very sharp (not blurry at all)

  • very nice, this seals it, i'm going with the HV20. Thanks for the very helpful vid.
