I don't think the Master is gone yet. The Doctor said that the one thing the Master would never do is kill himself but the last act the Master did was seemingly sacrifice himself for the Doctor. It doesn't seem right...
@bigfatcarp93 Yeah, I always thought Cumberbatch should be the next Master incarnation. I mean, his voice is perfect--can you just hear his evil laugh and say "I am the Master".
@akumatekkusu666 oh man......that would have been epic! Now that you mention it, Jacobi's presence seems better fitted to Eccleston's doctor. Damn you, now I'm going to be fantasizing over this for months.
Even better idea Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant and Matt Smith vs Derek Jacobi, John Simm and Geoffrey Beevers(one of the old masters left alive) or as the next master Benedict Cumberbatch as the next master
@xPokemonPlayerx Roger-Delgado-Incarnation, Peter-Pratt/Geoffrey-Beevers-Incarnation, Anthony Ainley/Gordon Tipple (?) Incarnation, Eric Roberts-Incarnation, Derek-Jacobi-Incarnation, John-Simm Incarnation...I don't know about you, but that makes at least 6 Masters on TV alone for me and 9 actors, not counting William Hughes, who would make them 10. Also, there were more incarnations (some that never existed, like the Mark Gatiss Master "Ke Le" in "Symphony for the Devil") in spin-offs.
@KingLofiOne WRONG! Roger-Delgado/Peter-Pratt/Geoffrey-Beevers-Incarnation. The Master played by Pratt and Beevers is the same life which Delgado played, just decrepit from being imprisoned so long and experimenting with himself to gain immortality so he would not die after that incarnation. Going by your logic just because one master is decrepit and the other is not it means they are different incarnations. Well all three actors play the final life of The Master.
@xPokemonPlayerx Then, by your logic, Ainley is also the Final Life of the Master, as he just walks around merged with the body of Tremas (which was taken from him in "Dust Breeding", if you want to count audios in, which would make Gordon Tipple an unchronicled incarnation). We do, in fact, have no real proof that Delgado is already the last life incarnation except the statement that Susan is responsible for his disfigurement in Legacy of the Daleks.
Sorry but for me the best people who have played The Master where Roger Delago and Anthony Ainley. I would have liked to have seen more of Derek Jacobi as the Master though!
I think Anthony Ainely was the greatest Master who ever was, though I have to admit that John Simm was very promising, and Eric Roberts was fairly spine-chilling. As for the others, I'm not too sure, such as Rodger Delgado who played the first or so incarnation of the renegade villian in the 1970's, back when Jon Pertwee was Dr. Who. I wonder if the new Who writers will ever decide to bring back the Master. It would very interesting to see him and Doctor take each other on in a final showdown.
Y'know what would be an interesting take on the Master? To do an alternate reality where he successfully steals more lives from the 4th Doctor and we see a year of the Master as a spin off series of Doctor Who... I would definately watch and I bet a lot of Dr Who fans would love it.
i think john simm should have one last run before he dies or regenerates, i think the master obviously survived the timelord incident, he's sent back in time (1960s maybe as a tramp but still with his brilliant mind) with no memory of being a villain however he does remember the doctor and every foe they have come across. The Doctor and co arrive and the master helps the doctor throughout the whole episode until the end where something flashes in his mind and makes him realize his true nature.
@babelcolour me and couple of friends of mine are making a dr who fansite i was wondering if you were interested in having some input or if we might be able to use some of your videos
John Simm's Master is my faviorite. He highlighted that he's the Doctor's equil. I liked all the Masters but nowadays the older Master is the kind of villian who would tie women to railway tracks and is just outdated as a poor villian stereotype. RTD didn't ruin the Master he updated him for the new genaration and it's an improvement. All the Doctor who fans I've talked to of all ages love him. It's only people who can't let go of the past that don't.
@OceanicMetal hey don't think bad of me he's a god among actors but.. dunno the actual doctor is less more than a teenager, u can really imagine cristopher lee fighting with matt smith? lee is too "classic"..
1 Anthony Aniely, 2 Redgor Delgado 3 'the Deadly Assasian one' 4 'the Keeper of Traken one' Sorry, but John didn't really suit the 'evilness' of The Master
I'm sure they'll find a way to bring him back within the next few series. I kinda hope by then he's rid himself of the sound of the drums and regained his sanity.
@AndyRaslan The Master is my second favorite Dr who villiain only behind the Daleks but yea the Master is a awsome villiain and one of my favorites of all time P.S. John Simm was my favorite Master.
@TheEocene - Try watching it again. Gordon Tipple is both named in the credits and appears in a clip. You somehow missed that.... William Hughes appears in the video but his name wasn't known 4 years ago when this video was actually uploaded)
Geoffry Beevers was so cool as the Master in Dust Breeding - his voice is just so creepy!
There was always on point I could never understand - the Pratt/Beevers Master was always depicted with his teeth showing - so how could he pronounce i his 'M's?
Anthony Ainley was the best actor to play the master. I love the way he gave Tom Baker hell. Next was Ruger Delgado it's a shame the car he was in went off the road back on May 3, 1973.
John Simm would of done a great role as the master. He might of had other projects in the works. That's why he didn't stay on. As for Benedict Cumberbatch he is doing Sherlock Holmes. Not a bad choice.
I would have loved to have seen more of Jacobi as the Master before Simm came on. Simm was excellent but Jacobi would have been a real treat to see in full Master mode. He was more Yana than Master during Utopia. He was of course also the Master during the animated feature 'Scream of the Shalka' in 2003.
Without a doubt, the Master gives the daleks a run for their money, the daleks may be the doctor's greatest nemesis, but The Master is so much more, he is an old friend, a rival, a darker ambition of what the doctor is and also he is a timelord with intellegence and a savage nature. He is, in my opinion, The ultimate enemy for the Doctor.
I dunno his name, but the one from the Peter Davison era is my favourite. Simms came off like a bit of an idiot, and felt like watching a carbon copy of Chrstopher Eccleston. Didn't like Eric Roberts, and the earlier master from the Pertwee era looks like Terence Stamp as General Zod a bit.
@BabelColour LOL poor BabelColour! "WhO Duz da mOOzic?" "Gregorian." "OMG dat music rox who made it?" "Gregorian." "Lol where music frum?" "Gregorian."
It's a shame Jacobi didn't have more time in the role. He fit it really well. I think he'd have been far better than Simm, who I feel took the character too far out of his wits(I partly blame RTD's writing for that too). Still anything is better than Roberts haha. Ainley and Delgado were both chillingly brilliant, the former more so in my opinion.
only master I don't like is the one from the movie, I seriously wish we could just forget that one had ever existed. not because of the actor though, I don't think any actor could have salvaged that movie after the american's got done putting their mark on it.
actuly the only master i realy like is the oen with john simm, the old masters liek rodger delgado and the others arent that interesting to m, they are all the same, all with the evil laugh, all the same rubbish beard, The one with John Simm was realy good, he was scary and funny at the same time, he was dangerous and cool at the same time, and you hate him, as much as you like him at the same time, and he sacrificed himself for the doctor. He realy gave him some character.!
@ivkoacount You need to consider things in context. A John Simm Master in the '70's would have increased support for Mary Whitehouse and "Doctor Who" would have been rescheduled for after the 9 o'clock news. At the time, Delgado literally DID send me running behind the sofa; that is not a cliche, it is literally true. Simm's Master was too much of a lunatic for me; previous Master's were evil, not mentally ill. His interpretation was temporary and couldn't endure, unlike Ainley's.
@outofthegreenmist i did consider everythign right, offcourse i think i like John Simm because he was the first master i ever knew, after watching teh Last of the time lords, i searched for his other incarnations, i first found the master in the doctor who movie, and Rodger delgado. I expected them to be as much crazy and " lunatic " as john Simms master, but to be onouce, they were so Different from mY master, i liked them in their ways, but John simm was better in my opinion!
@ivkoacount If he's your first Master, then that's the way Dr Who works, generally (not always) - whenever you started watching it becomes your favourite era. I preferred Jacobi to Simms. His performance was more subtle, tragic and sinister. I would have liked to see more of him as The Master. I hope an older Master will replace Simm.
@outofthegreenmist well that isnt true man, sure i like John Simm becasue he is my first, and favorite master, but i started watchign doctor whi with serie 2 and david tennant was my first doctor. But my favorite is Tom Baker you know. Sure Jakobi was a good master, all the master were great done, Rodger Delgado was fantastic in his own ways and i respect him as being the first master, i siriously like them all, but John Simm is just my favorite you know.
@ivkoacount Fair enough! Like I say, "that's the way Dr Who works, generally (not always)". Not always. I personally like the theory that the War Chief was the first Master, or even the Meddling Monk. I know that's contentious and not "cannon", but we're all entitled to imagine our own variations on Doctor Who mythology.
@ivkoacount Are you saying Eric Roberts and Derek Jacobi were not what you would make good villains, suree the older doctors in the classic series were not that threatening (most of the time). But if you are saying that the master wanting to kill 6 billion people and even more animals just to extend his own life, or the anger and hate in the masters eyes during Utopia, did not make him evil, you have got to be mad, John Simms master may have done bad but he was a nut case soooo
So, the Master is a renegade Time Lord like the doctor but the Time Lords drove him insane on purpose so he could pull Galifrey back from the Time War.. isn't he really a figure to be pitied ?
@CaptApril123 Actually, I think he once said he been in England in the '70's and had seen "Deadly Assassin", so he knew (or claimed to know) what "Doctor Who" was and who the Master was.
@PS3Worshipper Hopefully someone older than Matt Smith. I hope they don't go for the "young Doctor means young Master" thing which they did with Tennant and Simm. An older Master would be more sinister and threatening, in contrast to Smith.
The first time I came accross the master I thought to myself this is a villan that just seems so unstoppable it's unreal, he's a brilliant dr who villan as is davros
the dialogue at 50 secs in is from the kings demons.2.05 dialogue is from the myths and legends boxset.2.15 dialogue is from planet of fire.dialogue at 2.19 is from myths and legends boxset..2.40 dialogue is from planet of fire.3.16 to 3.23 is form the kings demons.

Hey they have Americans that could do right by doctor that was just the dumbass fox put in charge of that movie

Roger Delgado is the BEST!

Jacobi was immense for those 2 minutes. The way he whispered "I. Am. The Master." Epic.
maudthelord 1 year ago
only master I don't like is the one from the movie, I seriously wish we could just forget that one had ever existed. not because of the actor though, I don't think any actor could have salvaged that movie after the american's got done putting their mark on it.

actuly the only master i realy like is the oen with john simm, the old masters liek rodger delgado and the others arent that interesting to m, they are all the same, all with the evil laugh, all the same rubbish beard, The one with John Simm was realy good, he was scary and funny at the same time, he was dangerous and cool at the same time, and you hate him, as much as you like him at the same time, and he sacrificed himself for the doctor. He realy gave him some character.!
ivkoacount 1 year ago
@ivkoacount You need to consider things in context. A John Simm Master in the '70's would have increased support for Mary Whitehouse and "Doctor Who" would have been rescheduled for after the 9 o'clock news. At the time, Delgado literally DID send me running behind the sofa; that is not a cliche, it is literally true. Simm's Master was too much of a lunatic for me; previous Master's were evil, not mentally ill. His interpretation was temporary and couldn't endure, unlike Ainley's.
outofthegreenmist 1 year ago
@outofthegreenmist i did consider everythign right, offcourse i think i like John Simm because he was the first master i ever knew, after watching teh Last of the time lords, i searched for his other incarnations, i first found the master in the doctor who movie, and Rodger delgado. I expected them to be as much crazy and " lunatic " as john Simms master, but to be onouce, they were so Different from mY master, i liked them in their ways, but John simm was better in my opinion!
ivkoacount 1 year ago
@ivkoacount If he's your first Master, then that's the way Dr Who works, generally (not always) - whenever you started watching it becomes your favourite era. I preferred Jacobi to Simms. His performance was more subtle, tragic and sinister. I would have liked to see more of him as The Master. I hope an older Master will replace Simm.
outofthegreenmist 1 year ago
@outofthegreenmist well that isnt true man, sure i like John Simm becasue he is my first, and favorite master, but i started watchign doctor whi with serie 2 and david tennant was my first doctor. But my favorite is Tom Baker you know. Sure Jakobi was a good master, all the master were great done, Rodger Delgado was fantastic in his own ways and i respect him as being the first master, i siriously like them all, but John Simm is just my favorite you know.
ivkoacount 1 year ago
@ivkoacount Fair enough! Like I say, "that's the way Dr Who works, generally (not always)". Not always. I personally like the theory that the War Chief was the first Master, or even the Meddling Monk. I know that's contentious and not "cannon", but we're all entitled to imagine our own variations on Doctor Who mythology.
outofthegreenmist 1 year ago
@ivkoacount Are you saying Eric Roberts and Derek Jacobi were not what you would make good villains, suree the older doctors in the classic series were not that threatening (most of the time). But if you are saying that the master wanting to kill 6 billion people and even more animals just to extend his own life, or the anger and hate in the masters eyes during Utopia, did not make him evil, you have got to be mad, John Simms master may have done bad but he was a nut case soooo
xPokemonPlayerx 4 months ago
So, the Master is a renegade Time Lord like the doctor but the Time Lords drove him insane on purpose so he could pull Galifrey back from the Time War.. isn't he really a figure to be pitied ?
CaptApril123 1 year ago
Eric Roberts was really really good as the master and he had never even seen an episode of doctor who..
I'm really glade he was in 'The Dark Knight' he's an amazing actor.
CaptApril123 1 year ago
@CaptApril123 Actually, I think he once said he been in England in the '70's and had seen "Deadly Assassin", so he knew (or claimed to know) what "Doctor Who" was and who the Master was.

I hear rumors that Jason Isaac's is gonna be the next Master :D wouldnt that be good?

PS3Worshipper 1 year ago
@PS3Worshipper Hopefully someone older than Matt Smith. I hope they don't go for the "young Doctor means young Master" thing which they did with Tennant and Simm. An older Master would be more sinister and threatening, in contrast to Smith.
