Yeah, I'm Aussie, so obviously I have no problem with it, its just that the USA has a reputation for being rather insular.

Not much international coverage on the news networks unless it concerns US interests and things like that. It's a generalisation which is perhaps unfair, but I just assumed she'd be ignored because she doesn't sound American.

I should also point out until about 6 or so years ago it was rare for any Aussies to sing in our own accent and even today some Aussies find it a turn-off. Before that we all sang in an American accent.

The only band who'd ever done it mainstream was Midnight Oil. It was Australian Hip-Hop and Punk Rock which started it in the underground music scene and it grew from there. It's quite popular now, as a matter of nationalism or just being rid of the 'cultural cringe'.

I agree...without her accent it would just sounds like everybody else out there, and I'm sick of those...they just kind of all sound the same it sounds too commercial...her voice mixed to her songs touches the soul, it's refreshing. I'm french and didnt really realized she wasnt american before hearing her speaking, but if thats whats making her sound like that, well I'm a new fan of accents!!
