@TheBladox95 So can you please answer the question. how does the universe and everything in it exitst? Scientist point to the Big Bang. But my problem with that is that if there were a so called Big Bang, How did this Big Bang just come about. your answer to me might be: Then how does GOD exist if somthing had to create him. My answer to that is: That is whats makes him "GOD" and why we call him GOD because he has no beginning and no end.
@BlakeGriffinChannel The universe may have no beginning and end too, so stephen hawking and some physicists are researching about it. Does good exist ? To quote Stephen hawking: The question itself makes no sense, because before the big bang there was no time for god to create the universe becaus time itself didn´t exist. But there is no guy called god that makes us all to slaves. The universe created itself in the laws of anture there is no creator that´s the point atheism.
@TheBladox95 GOD doesnt make us slaves. He sets us free. He's our savior. Man if u knew. I feel sorry for you. why? because if you dont believe in God, then you dont believe in a after-life. Do you really think that when you die thats the end. the only slaves are athiest because your have no hope to whats to come.
@BlakeGriffinChannel No hopes ? We just think logically, we just have one life and we have to use for that everybody should be very gratefull and shouldn´t demand on an afterlife. Why is god savior ? He did nothing for humanity. It´s all declerateable with the laws of nature...
@TheBladox95 It very clear that I cant reach you and make you believe. It up to you to decide. I pray for people like you. I pray that God opens your eyes.
@BlakeGriffinChannel There i nobody to hear your praying, so no reason to waste your time for me :P. And by the way the curch was just hindering sience and stuff like that. And the curch is just abusing children that´s something i don´t want to support...
@BlakeGriffinChannel I find it's rather sad that you seam to completely write off this life to worship a being who's completely naracistic. Surely, the belief you posses shackles your life to a strict set of rules and guidelines, while the whip of the fear of internal damnation is used to keep you in line. Surely sir, that is slavery.
@BackRockDelta strict rules? The rules we follow are the 10 commandments. u shall have no other gods before him. u shall not make for yourself any carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath. u shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain. Remember the Sabbath day. Honor your father and your mother. You shall not murder. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
@BlakeGriffinChannel I'd disagree, commandments 5 - 9 seam to be the only ones which any enlightened society would include in it's moral code, I see no reason why an all powerful creator should seek constant recognition under the penalty of internal hell for anyone who does not grant that to him. Were there not rules against murder and theft in the Nazi state?, in which people still had to follow their leader like slaves. The whole thing is monsterously Orwelian in nature.
@BlakeGriffinChannel Also, your reply stated only 9 commandments, I believe the 10th has something to do with not being envious of your neighbour, which I would argue is human nature and if following the belief in a creator, you would have to believe that God built jealousy into human nature for no other reason then to force you to supress it, a sign of a rather bad tradesman.
@TheBladox95 when I was a kid GOD really revealed to me that he's real. When my grandma was on her death Bed at the last moments of her life she was totally incapable of moving her body. She was basically paralyzed and couldnt speak. But right before she died she raised her arms high in the air as if her spirit was being taken up to heaven. The room was dem and became extra bright. then her arms droped back down as the room became dem again as she deid. I was in tears because I Knew it was GOD
@BlakeGriffinChannel That maybe was a dream or u have taken drugs xD. When it would be happened like this it would be an accident. It´s all reasonable. You just have to accept that the laws of bature are fixed. So there is no role for god to play. When there is a god ho does he justify all these earthquakes, Tsunamies, hurricanes and so on ? It´s just not reasonable for me. In my opinion there is no place for god in the universe because we have the laws of nature.
Hannity starts desperately attacking Hitchens out of the blue at 3:13 by saying, "You seem to be angry with religion, angry with god (implying it exists). Am I wrong... ?" Well you're just angry... What's wrong with being angry?!
At 3:13, it looks like Fox News cut out Hitchens' reply just as he was getting his trousers off, and skipped to Hannity's next speech. See - Hitchens pose and position of his head and shoulders instantly changes as they cut to Hannity talking. Dishonest bastards!
I think Sean Hannity should pick up a basic science text book and read it through. Yes, it sounds very supernatural and magical that the world is this way, but when you read how it actually happened, and can see proof before your eyes that this is how it happened and this is why it happened then it doesn't really seem that magical at all. Understanding science i think is the biggest problem with religious people.
@Akoroth We christian's dont have any problem with science. the only problem we have with science is not science itself but scientific theories. such as Big Bang. That is why its called BIG BANG Theory because it doesnt have exact proof that it's true.
The truth is there is no proof of God. I think that's how he wants it to be; so it would be that much harder to believe, that more unbelievable. Maybe he doesn't exist, maybe he does. Why do we argue? Why do I argue? I argue to as an attempt to save your soul. i don't know why you do; so i can live for nothing? If you believe and He's not real you still have the fortune of living life with more than you, more than us. And in my opinion, that's something to believe in.
@Convic817 if i'd known i was arguing with a 14 year old i would not have been so terse. but anyone who believes in a literal god, in my opinion, does have an immature, under-educated, under-developed mind. such is the idiocy of the US where believers in creationism have the audacity to demand the same respect as evolution (an actual science).
maybe when you're older you'll understand that it doesn't diminish the value of the bible to read it as myth. humans need both myth & science.
@canteluna im done arguing with you. your mind is unchangeable and ill just have to except that. but a word of advise. dont go calling people's beliefs fake, it only causes problems. just keep in your head and we'll all be fine
@Convic817 we argue because of the significance religion carries in our society. some politicians don't respect democracy & would have us live in a theocracy, like saudia arabia for ex.
we live in a time when our society has had the benefit of vast scientific understanding of the natural world as well as our selves. we should not ignore science for the comfort of living in a fantasy.
here our most dominant myth is the judeo christian one & it has value if we know how to interpret it.
“Observations indicate that the universe is expanding at an ever-increasing rate. It will expand forever, getting emptier and darker. Although the universe doesn’t have an end, it had a beginning in the Big Bang. One might ask what is before that but the answer is that there is nowhere before the Big Bang just as there is nowhere south of the South Pole.” — Stephen Hawking
it's no great intellectual feat to argue against a literal, personal god. that is a straw man argument & keeps the dogmatists relevant & in the spot light. the literal god is a mistake of understanding religions, myths & metaphors & our spiritual heritage.
the concept of god, when used as it should be, is a metaphor that speaks to our "metaphysical" experiences. we need to take the word back from the literalists.
check out comparative mythology scholars, jospeph cambell, for instance.
@canteluna Don't you call my God a metaphor. Let me say something. You can't see air, yet it is there. You can't touch the stars, yet they are there. I bet you're going to give me some technical or philosophical answer to tell me why God isn't real, but the truth is that your inability to look beyond the tangible causes you this dislike or possibly even hate of those who can see truth in a world of lies. And don't tell me my God is a lie. My God is here, and He works beyond the lies.
@Convic817 What an idiotic response. You're talking about things that have physical properties despite whether you can see or touch them. It's called science, deal with it.
I'm not calling your god a metaphor. God is a metaphor only for those intelligent enough to understand the concept of metaphors & myths. Dogmatists like you are free, in a secular democracy, to believe what you like--a right most religions & theocracies don't allow.
@Convic817 you might have used the metaphysical example of love rather than air & stars which have physical properties & can be proved to exist. if you claim that god, like stars & air, exists in time & space as a physical reality then prove it. if, on the other hand, god, is in the metaphysical realm, like love, then no physical proof is necessary but then you have to come to terms with god in the mythical realm. it is no less real. so why not? why insist on a physical god?
@Convic817 the very fact that we're talking about god means we're talking about something. the question is what that something is. i could talk endlessly with a shakespeare scholar about hamlet without either of us ever having to resort to trying to prove that his relevance depends on his actually having existed in the physical world. does hamlet being a fictional character diminish his cultural relevance? no. same with god. the fact that we disagree is fine with me but not with you.
@canteluna I never said I wasn't alright with you disagreeing and i'm sorry if it appeared that way. I just take "my God is a metaphor" insultingly. And you say "i'm not calling your God a metaphor" and then basically say God is a metaphor for smart people is an idiotic response.
@canteluna I can't make you believe. That's on you. I just want you to see the amazing God that i see.I know you won't think as i do. I'm a fourteen year old boy trying to stand for something that there is no proof for. It's almost impossible. and btw using love as an example wouldn't make since for me because God is love. I'm sorry if i'm all over the place right now my mind is clouded as of right now.
what bugs me more is that when believers say "something cant come from nothing, there must be a creator, a god" they mean their own god of their religion. How can they be so sure that it isnt some of the other thousands of deities? Even if science cant answer the question what was in the beginning, it doesnt prove that there is YOUR god, it just means you cant ever know what was in the beginning.
this hitchens guy is just frustrated. he has never been through anything tough in his life to turn to faith. he doesn't know what its like to be at the bottom while facing adversity and all of a sudden witness a miracle of your life being saved by God. this guy is irrelevant hes just another dude trying to cause trouble. i agree religion is corrupt but it can't destroy the fact that miracles do occur and cannot be explained other than a strong faith. and he didn't own hannity u damn fanboys
@rohanhaggart God was, is, and always will be. I know it sounds crazy but it's true. I know you will disagree with me but I still hope you will someday believe.
@Convic817 Bless U, and 4 even the most unbelieving, let them have eyes to see, and ears to hear. "If God meant 4 us 2 talk more than 2 listen, he would have given us 2 mouths & 1 ear." (Mark Twain). Being a Hitchens fan, wish I could rch. him. 4 those here, I was witness 2 an ascension; in name, Eddie Kendricks; visited me in my sleep on the date of his passing, winked at me as I sat on the edge of my seat in the Apollo Theater; said "it's alright, I know u know who I am" & up & away he went!
Apparently Hannity has failed every college/university subject he has hitherto undertaken. This more than likely correlates with his position as a prominent commentator for Fox News.
@TheSUBGAMER grass is green because plants use light from the sun to make food. This is called photosynthesis and uses a chemical called chlorophyll that looks green. It stores light from the sun and transfers the energy into chemical reactions that eventually produce sugar. Photosynthesis can be written like this:
I'm just appalled by this interview; I would have assumed that most self-styled journalists would feel compelled to actually read a book on which they would be called to interview.
Hannity committed the big classic act of self contradiction that so many Christians sucker themselves into. At 2:40 he clearly admits his god is something that is not meant for us to know yet we seem to know an awful lot about something we are not suppose to and cannot possibly KNOW anything about. He's right, its not meant for us to know. Yet this bone head adheres to a belief system that dishonestly cons people into believing we somehow found about out what couldn't be known.
lol I like how Sean had nothing else to say to prove religion so he moves to what it does for people then christopher basicly said we do it to iit doesn't mean athiesim is correct hahaha I wish christian can get that through there head more often. :P

Hitchens, are u not ashamed of bearing the name Christopher (bearer of Jesus) as your first name? Change your name to Monkey Hitchens since u claim we descended from monkeys! Repent for your sins brother!
Um. Since the science shows that without any doubt at all, with absolutely no room for the bible to be true that mankind is a primate, our closest living relatives are the great apes and that mankind and these great apes had a common ancestor.....by your argument, we would all have to change our name to Monkey
Of course God exists! We scientists have been trying to duplicate living cells/things but to no avail. Only God creates living things/cells. Proof that a creator exist. Period!
@solstice83 'we scientists'... give me a break. Ignorance is proof of nothing. And ending a sentence with a period, followed by the word period and then an exclamation point is overkill. Period!
@solstice83 Just because we haven't made artificial life yet doesn't mean it's not possible. That is not proof. You say "We scientists have been trying to duplicate living cells/things but to no avail." implying that you are a scientist. May I ask how? Using the lack of knowledge about something as evidence for something else. That doesn't sound like a very scientific may of thinking. Sorry, but I don't believe you are actually a scientist.
I actually disagree with Hitchens, but I think he was on the right track though. I don't think that religion is inherently evil. The religions of the world have controdicting ideas within their own religion. Religion, in my opinion, is an enabler for good, bad, stupidity, and intelligence. You can find anything in those books to support your worldview, and that can be very good or very bad.
@TehFunnehMann evil is a concept enabled my religion. rather than something being just purely terrible, for something to be evil there's a sinister flair to it not without some superstition behind it. as long as you have things polarized in a "good & evil" sort of spectrum, you're inspiring conflict.. i mean if your world view is that of living in a conflicted world, what else is there? so while maybe not evil, i do believe religion is a fundamentally bad thing with slight potential for good.
@katinkers Right, I completely agree. Any type of enabling force creates the delusion that your motives are always good and that's a very bad thing, even if the are noble. I think that the main danger of religion is the idea of false superiority and the idea that you can go unquestioned.
@TehFunnehMann I agree your point insofar as that religion can, in this instance, be compared to a person with the usual continuous spectrum of disposition ranging from reprehensible to constructive behavior. The only problem is that fundie Islamists, objectively speaking, are far more representative of the Qur'an and Hadiths than the modern secularist Muslims who represent the cherry picked version of their belief system. This example, although Islam-specific, applies to virtually any religion.
JESUS CHRIST, HIS CATHOLIC-UNIVERSAL-APOSTOLIC CHURCH, SACRAMENTS, THE BIBLE, MIRACLES, HEALINGS, ST. MARY APPARITIONS, MESSAGES FROM HEAVEN, SIGNS IN 2011 ARE NOT A MYTHOLOGY BUT THE REALITY !!!
He seems to think that a violation of the first law of thermodynamics is a far more naive belief than that a cosmological tyrant created the universe (also out of nothing). Hannity is an intellectual giant obviously and i with my simple knowledge of physics am ill-prepared to argue with him.
When people make the argument that something from nothing is impossible, therefore, there is a creator then they need to go on and explain, a. how did the creator come into being and b. how did the creator create something from nothing? did the creator breathe it into being? magic? mind power? The whole 'something can't come from nothing' argument can be thrown back in the theists' faces.
I also believe in the ancient "as above so below" theory. Or the idea that we can understand the universe simply by observing the patterns that exist within our own world. The systems are the same on every level of existence, they only differ in their scope and scale. Ie. Cause and effect, action reaction, Heroes and Villains/those in a position of power, those who oppose those in a position of power etc. etc. Universal laws if you will.
Nope, Sean; PEOPLE did all those charitable things. No matter "whose name" they did them in, PEOPLE accomplished them. There's never been a charitable act in the history of the World that couldn't have been done without all the religious rigmarole attached.

BlakeGriffinChannel 1 week ago
@BlakeGriffinChannel The universe may have no beginning and end too, so stephen hawking and some physicists are researching about it. Does good exist ? To quote Stephen hawking: The question itself makes no sense, because before the big bang there was no time for god to create the universe becaus time itself didn´t exist. But there is no guy called god that makes us all to slaves. The universe created itself in the laws of anture there is no creator that´s the point atheism.
TheBladox95 1 week ago
@TheBladox95 GOD doesnt make us slaves. He sets us free. He's our savior. Man if u knew. I feel sorry for you. why? because if you dont believe in God, then you dont believe in a after-life. Do you really think that when you die thats the end. the only slaves are athiest because your have no hope to whats to come.
BlakeGriffinChannel 1 week ago
@BlakeGriffinChannel No hopes ? We just think logically, we just have one life and we have to use for that everybody should be very gratefull and shouldn´t demand on an afterlife. Why is god savior ? He did nothing for humanity. It´s all declerateable with the laws of nature...

BlakeGriffinChannel 1 week ago
@BackRockDelta The Rules we follow are basic rules everyone should follow. what r u talking about.
BlakeGriffinChannel 1 week ago
@BlakeGriffinChannel I'd disagree, commandments 5 - 9 seam to be the only ones which any enlightened society would include in it's moral code, I see no reason why an all powerful creator should seek constant recognition under the penalty of internal hell for anyone who does not grant that to him. Were there not rules against murder and theft in the Nazi state?, in which people still had to follow their leader like slaves. The whole thing is monsterously Orwelian in nature.
BackRockDelta 1 week ago

BlakeGriffinChannel 1 week ago
@BlakeGriffinChannel That maybe was a dream or u have taken drugs xD. When it would be happened like this it would be an accident. It´s all reasonable. You just have to accept that the laws of bature are fixed. So there is no role for god to play. When there is a god ho does he justify all these earthquakes, Tsunamies, hurricanes and so on ? It´s just not reasonable for me. In my opinion there is no place for god in the universe because we have the laws of nature.

Akoroth 2 weeks ago

Convic817 2 weeks ago
@Convic817 if i'd known i was arguing with a 14 year old i would not have been so terse. but anyone who believes in a literal god, in my opinion, does have an immature, under-educated, under-developed mind. such is the idiocy of the US where believers in creationism have the audacity to demand the same respect as evolution (an actual science).
maybe when you're older you'll understand that it doesn't diminish the value of the bible to read it as myth. humans need both myth & science.

@Convic817 we argue because of the significance religion carries in our society. some politicians don't respect democracy & would have us live in a theocracy, like saudia arabia for ex.
we live in a time when our society has had the benefit of vast scientific understanding of the natural world as well as our selves. we should not ignore science for the comfort of living in a fantasy.
here our most dominant myth is the judeo christian one & it has value if we know how to interpret it.

it's no great intellectual feat to argue against a literal, personal god. that is a straw man argument & keeps the dogmatists relevant & in the spot light. the literal god is a mistake of understanding religions, myths & metaphors & our spiritual heritage.
the concept of god, when used as it should be, is a metaphor that speaks to our "metaphysical" experiences. we need to take the word back from the literalists.
check out comparative mythology scholars, jospeph cambell, for instance.
canteluna 2 weeks ago
@canteluna Don't you call my God a metaphor. Let me say something. You can't see air, yet it is there. You can't touch the stars, yet they are there. I bet you're going to give me some technical or philosophical answer to tell me why God isn't real, but the truth is that your inability to look beyond the tangible causes you this dislike or possibly even hate of those who can see truth in a world of lies. And don't tell me my God is a lie. My God is here, and He works beyond the lies.
Convic817 2 weeks ago
@Convic817 What an idiotic response. You're talking about things that have physical properties despite whether you can see or touch them. It's called science, deal with it.
I'm not calling your god a metaphor. God is a metaphor only for those intelligent enough to understand the concept of metaphors & myths. Dogmatists like you are free, in a secular democracy, to believe what you like--a right most religions & theocracies don't allow.
Just keep your dogma out of my face.
canteluna 2 weeks ago
@Convic817 you might have used the metaphysical example of love rather than air & stars which have physical properties & can be proved to exist. if you claim that god, like stars & air, exists in time & space as a physical reality then prove it. if, on the other hand, god, is in the metaphysical realm, like love, then no physical proof is necessary but then you have to come to terms with god in the mythical realm. it is no less real. so why not? why insist on a physical god?
canteluna 2 weeks ago
@Convic817 the very fact that we're talking about god means we're talking about something. the question is what that something is. i could talk endlessly with a shakespeare scholar about hamlet without either of us ever having to resort to trying to prove that his relevance depends on his actually having existed in the physical world. does hamlet being a fictional character diminish his cultural relevance? no. same with god. the fact that we disagree is fine with me but not with you.
canteluna 2 weeks ago
@canteluna I never said I wasn't alright with you disagreeing and i'm sorry if it appeared that way. I just take "my God is a metaphor" insultingly. And you say "i'm not calling your God a metaphor" and then basically say God is a metaphor for smart people is an idiotic response.
Convic817 2 weeks ago
@canteluna I can't make you believe. That's on you. I just want you to see the amazing God that i see.I know you won't think as i do. what bugs me more is that when believers say "something cant come from nothing, there must be a creator, a god" they mean their own god of their religion. How can they be so sure that it isnt some of the other thousands of deities? Even if science cant answer the question what was in the beginning, it doesnt prove that there is YOUR god, it just means you cant ever know what was in the beginning.

TehFunnehMann 3 weeks ago
@TehFunnehMann evil is a concept enabled my religion. rather than something being just purely terrible, for something to be evil there's a sinister flair to it not without some superstition behind it. as long as you have things polarized in a "good & evil" sort of spectrum, you're inspiring conflict.. i mean if your world view is that of living in a conflicted world, what else is there? so while maybe not evil, i do believe religion is a fundamentally bad thing with slight potential for good.
katinkers 3 weeks ago
@katinkers Right, I completely agree. Any type of enabling force creates the delusion that your motives are always good and that's a very bad thing, even if the are noble. I think that the main danger of religion is the idea of false superiority and the idea that you can go unquestioned.
TehFunnehMann 3 weeks ago
@TehFunnehMann I agree your point insofar as that religion can, in this instance, be compared to a person with the usual continuous spectrum of disposition ranging from reprehensible to constructive behavior. The only problem is that fundie Islamists, objectively speaking, are far more representative of the Qur'an and Hadiths than the modern secularist Muslims who represent the cherry picked version of their belief system. This example, although Islam-specific, applies to virtually any religion.
