By raw numbers, France is doing a lot better than we are. Public debt, healthcare, life expectancy, literacy, freedom of the press, we're losing to them in every category. America has the potential to be a great country, but our citizens are too backward-thinking. We don't value intellectuals and science. We actively hinder progress whenever major changes need to be made. And we treat cartoonish punditry as if it's legitimate political discourse. We're on a bad path.
