Until this moment, I have considered myself uninterested in rock and roll and the antics of famous guitarists. I have always listened to Bach and Mozart instead, but I would say that Eddie Van Halen possesses a very similar brand of genius as many of the great heroes of classical music! Rock on!!! haha
In the garden of eden as everyone knows, where everyone came to just see the show. In this garden there were two leaves, One covered Adams, One covered Eve's. As the story goes on, needless to say, Eddie cranked up his Peavey's and blew them away.
Thats the Ed Van Halen we all come to know and love. He was having a GOOD time. Ahhhh... the good ol' times rock and rule the days of our lives. I really like this part.... i'am obviously a little bias... thanks for the post.
I'm totally agree with you Kyrtap! This is the best Eddie's solo ever. I remember very well when i saw this concert for the first time on a vhs tape in august 1989.. Beautiful memories..
Just some really cool innovative stuff. That's what I call using an electric guitar; that is, stretching the medium to its limits (for example what he starts doing at 3:50). The solo in the Tokyo Dome is another beaut.
excuse me but i happend to have found out and assured myself that if there's a VH solo to start with, it's the cathedral. Very simple in fact, but difficult if you wanna play it exactly like him. If you're a willing guitarist you should be playing it in no time. God knows it's easy, but if you don't have the delay effect don't bother trying.
You just do a simple hammer on/pull off at say the 2nd fret (or any other fret) & take your right hand & from around the pickup position move it lightly against the string heading down towards the nut, this creates descending artificial harmonics, its actually quite simple but sounds fantastic. when you do it I suggest you use a single finger against the string, not the whole hand so you dont deaden the harmonics, it needs to be a light touch. Hope this helps.
If Hendrix taught the guitar world how to fly, Eddie showed how to launch a rocket into outer space. The man is so far ahead of his time that even 30 years later no one even comes close. Like Mozart and Beethoven, Eddie has redefined what is possible.
I don't see Eddie letting Dave back in the band. All is not lost though. Forget the six released studio LP's with Dave. I'm talking about the rare demos and GREAT music they wrote from 1974-1977 before they became famous! Can't find it or never heard of it? Don't worry! Just see these videos of that era by clicking on my name and watching these fantastic videos!
only van halen this is amazing truly amazing a treat to watch everyone says jimi hendrix is the best but they just dont know van halen well thats my opinion.
people consider jimi hendrix to be the best because he did not go through being an old man like van halen, slash, etc which make them completely retarded. van halen used to be great. i dont listen to his new songs. i am stuck with the old ones like this one.
ehmm... Eddie became famous because he invented the tapping techniche... but from who he invented it? From Jimmy Page, during his Heartbreaker solo... So basically Jimmy was first, Eddie and him were good in their own way.
ill guess u mean randy rhoads which means your an idiot. randy took everything eddie did. eddie van halen invented metal guitar so how would someone who coppied him be better?
You have to compare Eddie Van Halen to the other people that were around when he started playing this stuff. Yeah sure others can shred fast now, but there are a lot of them. Eddie was so fare ahead of his time that everyone else was in the noise.
omg, at 4:04 and at 4:10, what does he hit with his hand on the back of the guitar? After 4:10 I want to do that prickly thing on the back of the neck. Maybe digital delay has to be turned wayyy up?
he hits the springs that hold the floyd rose in place, you can do it to any guitar with a whammy bar or tremolo system, ''just give em a good ol whack'', or sweep the plectrum or you're nail across the springs
eddie does kick ass, but saying that he is best is opinion, plus you you should check out the song Animal by Vinnie Vincent invasion. that is shred. without all of the tapping
What's so great about this video (the whole concert video, and that whole tour) was Eddie was absolutely at his peak... not just skill but emotionally. He had just gotten free of Dave, but not yet grown to hate Sammy. He was still heavy, not yet taking himself more seriously like he does later. He is so freakin' happy. I love watching this video.
you know, one reason why im not much of a fan of Michal Angelo Batio, is because he doesn't show really any emotion when he plays guitar, he doesn't seem to be having fun...Not like this man, you always see him with that smile on his face
he is truely amazing, and honestly he is the best you will ever see, he may not legitimatly be know as the best, but based on his creativity, and the fact that he actually invited a style of play, not just good songs makes him better than anyone goofyguitar named, once they come up with a new way to play, then maybe theyll go up in my book, but that nearly impossible, so just enjoy watching the best
