I was at this race as I have been to the coca cola 600 and i tell ya if you are a big race fan you better go there and sit up in the jewel tower, such a awesome view of those cars going down the backstretch its amazing really.. I will never forget this race, despite it was a fuel mileage race I was very happy to see Mears get a win on memorial day however I was hoping he and J.J. Yeley would run out of gas so Kyle Petty could win..
On my deathbed, no matter how long I live, i'll still be just a little more sad that Kyle couldn't win this last race, in his eventual last season. Just one final win for Adam. I really would have been more completed as a person had that happened. It would have been emotion personified. All of the sports world would have taken their hats off and been touched.
Oh well, Kyle you're still the best, whether on or off the track. You've been a blessing.
Yeah, wouldve been really good to see him get the win. Kyle's one of those guys who I think if he had had better cars or better luck at certain times, he could have been right up there and had more wins than he had. Always a really nice guy, massive respect for him and all the Pettys.
Biggest mistake he ever made was forming his own team. Felix Sabates built great racecars, they had a great crew chief (Pemberton) and a great team with the mellow yellow boys. I'll never understand why he tried to do it on his own. Just look at the 1992-1993 seasons when he finished back to back 5th place in points. In 1992 he was mathematically alive for the Winston Cup championship at the start of the final race. Kyle was a great driver, with poor luck and poor equipment afterwards.
Agree with ya on that. 90% of all drivers who try and form their own races teams never get anywhere, Petty, Bill Elliot, Ricky Rudd, many others like that. Tony Stewart is only successful because he only part-owns Stewart-Haas, I doubt he'd be as good as he is with that team if he ran the ENTIRE operation.
Pretty good prediction. I think all Casey Mears has to do to win at the plate tracks is stay out of trouble and lead his teammates. He probably could've been in victory lane more than once last season if he just didn't have bad luck.
It would probably be easier if Casey qualified infront of Jeff, J.J., and Jr., but there are a lot of ways. You made a pretty good prediction, though, and a good point.
I saw that! I thought that was crazy, but it makes me wonder how Jr. could get wrecked by his former teammate for like 8th-9th position, and get pissed, when he got wrecked going for the win last year at Richmond by Kyle Busch, and not get mad! Makes no sense!
Was there at the 600 and it was quite when casey crossed the line. I dont know if people were more shocked that casey won or that jimmie johnson didnt. Im a jimmie johnson fan so of course i was a little upset but at least hendrick was in victory lane
This was Kyles best permance in many years, he had a great car that night and was driven. More surprising the pit stops were fast which has long been a weak spot. Great calls by Billy W. Maybe it was the Coke Sponsorhip, recalls the Mellow Yellow days.

It Was A Shame To See Him Leave Hendrick After Just 2 Years

Yeah, but I think he'll do okay at RCR. He really hasn't been that bad there, so far, just hasn't made any noise.
