  • they need to make a movie of this ... it would be BOX Office

  • This was nothing more than Rokushin Gattai God Mars meets DC's Metal Men. TMS, well done, fun and entertaining.

  • I wanna try to give the Mighty Orbots a come back, though it might be a while before I get that chance; however. For now I'm stuck watching the theme song, and the transformation sequence; however cool it is. For the theme song, I wanna hire Journey to sing the new theme song I wrote out. But i can't do that until AWESOME ENTERTAINMENT is a real company. But it will be soon.

    Sincerely, Johnny Fabulous.

  • I remember this cartoon from the early 80's. It was always on WAAAYYY to early (5:30 a.m. in Wisconsin) and I only saw it a few times, but I remember thinking the animation was head and shoulders above the other stuff currently running (mostly Hanna Barbara schlock). Little did I know I was watching Japanamation (that word didn't exist, at least in my little town).

  • when i saw this i was like "awesome!" and then i saw god mars i was like "hhmmm... they look the same" btw, which of the two came out first?

  • Haha! some of the robots have MANGO fruit on their Cheek. and once they're all transformed into a one robot, it become a GIANT robot...

LOL! the blue robot is an Old GAY! hmmm is the robot have gender? ;p Joke joke, it's only a cartoon... im just kidding!!! just for fun...:)

  • Fuk the 90's, I miss the 80's. :-(

  • um WTF

  • They hardly ever show the Tor's transformation!

  • what, orbots? and i thought gobots was a lame name...

  • As a loyal dedicated Transformers G1 fan, I must admit that this cartoon had just as much juice as TF during that first season in 84. I remember debating with other kids about the quality of animation being the best and how both Mighty Orbots and Optimus Prime had a cool block style, not to mention the color scheme and helmet being similar. I personally feel Tonka knew that it couldn't go after big companies like Hasbro but felt the squeeze from this quality upstart and decided to kill it.

  • Oh my god. This brings back memories. And I wasn't even alive then!

  • hit it ono, we've got a date with a hot sandwich

  • haha,i watched this as a child.

  • Man....Voltron had NOTHING on Orbots. The graphics from Orbots alone was LEAGUES ahead...

  • @DarkmanXXL its a cartoon relax

  • This was truly one of my favorite cartoons back in the days.

  • grandioso el poderoso orbots, lastima que la mayoria de los robot que lo formaban eran ridiculos

  • IMHO, this was the absolute best of the saturday-morning cartoons. TOTAL bummer it didn't go on longer.

  • A pity this didn't go on longer--though its success was derived from the popularity of Voltron, the Godmars influence makes this a lot cooler in my mind (plus, the animation is just ridiculously good).

  • Voltron is something so I don't want to compare and Mighty Orbots is worth looking for since the robots that combine have five different personalities.....

  • I just wanted to thank you dearly for posting this nearly 4 years ago now. Still one of the best cartoon themes for some reason for me.

  • orbots unite

  • Hot salad? what?

  • @sort187 Well then you are a fool!

  • @sort187 Why don't you go marry Voltron then?

  • @sort187 Oh brother... 'and I'll form, the head! x8 billion' yawn

  • @Energyone--- Do they even go through that schpiel in the original Japanese version?

  • @sort187 Why would I care unless I was Japanese?

  • @sort187 There was no Japanese version. This was copied from Godmars anime. Same robot. Only thing they changed was how the individual robots looked before transforming. The artwork was done by a Japanese studio hired by an American company. Same deal like Transformers and Thundercats.

Tonka tried to sue them because they thought they were trying to copy their Gobots line and actually won too despite being wrong so thats why it was pulled from the air after only 13 episodes (gay I know)

  • @Feijoada1 MIghty Orbots looks quite different from the giant Godmars robot. There are similarities, but it's hardly the same robot.

  • @MCWAY1 Its the same goddamn thing dont try to correct me look it up - wiki it

  • @sort187 yer on the wrong page to be talkin that kinda shit fool. imo get crunch to take a bite outta yer ass if you ain't careful.

  • @sort187 I dunno about that. From this clip, I'd say the animation is the difference between anything by Shounen Jump and anything by Gainax; the underdog PWNS. Plus this isn't adapted from a japanese show like Voltron and Power Rangers was, it's actually the other way around, being aired in America BEFORE Japan.

  • @sort187 Voltron wishes its animation had the craftsmanship this does.

  • @sort187 Too bad Voltron isn't a real robot. More like a pilot controlled machine with no mind of it's own.

  • I never knew about the Gobots lawsuit until recently. I always thought it got killed by being sandwiched between Dragon's Lair and Turbo Teen...two of the most suck-ass cartoons in TV history!

  • I remember an episode with a gigantic android whale and they had to get to a control panel inside its brain to shut it down!

  • if they remade this show, maybe america could finnaly have it's own mecha show

  • They actually proposed a second season, but it was blocked by the toy companies who thought it was competing too much with other transformable toys such as Go-Bots and Transformers. A shame..I loved the show!

  • wow, nostalgia overdose

  • i wish they make a movie of them like transformers

  • go mighty orbots there joining together to fight for whats right everyhwere now thats a classic line right there

  • Man that brings back memories

  • Now, don't hate on me, I loved this cartoon as a kid, and I still think it's great...

But is it just me or do the lyrics make little sense (although the tune sounds good)?

  • According to TMS in Japan, MCA Universal (NBC) currently holds the distribution rights to Mighty Orbots in North America.

    Sincerely

    Andrew

    McAllen TX

  • man, if the character designs didnt look like hanna-barbara rejects this would be cool

  • dios esta fue una de mis primeras animes, aunq es medio americana, me trae viejos recuerdos, ojala consiguiera sus dvds para verla de nuevo

  • Wow. That... looks very similar to GodMars.

  • Yeah I noticed that but it's a five-piece version of it (GodMars is six-piece).

  • @TemDMindu Same Mechanical Designer.

  • i wonder what would a live action version look like .the robots where the main characters that combined into one robot someone please make a masterpiece of mighty orbots

  • I really really liked this show over here (Latin America)!! ^^ Good memories!

I always wondered how the hell was that the robots grow so big as to take Rob and Oh No inside!! It was like a freakin building inside there!!! All you guys remember when Rob had to command the Orbots by himself?

  • This has the longer version of the song. Coolness! I wish that one day they would release the show on DVD. Fans really want it. The robot that would come from 'Godmars'.

  • Damn, such memories! I loved this show! It kicked ass back in the day and, in my opinion, kicks ass of most of today's "american anime."

You guys suppose we can get a petition to the original producers to crank out a Mighty Orbot DVD or something? I've got a hunger to watch this thing again!!

  • Wow I remember this on channel 7 waaaay back, was one of those cartoons that you'd actually set an alarm to on a Saturday morning, unlike now where everything is computer animated, all of this stuff was hand drawn and painted..thumbs up on the flash back.

  • Now THIS show needs to make a comeback!!! American Anime if I ever seen it!!!

  • In the final eps doesnt Mighty Orbot destroy Lord Umbra by smashing up Umbras facility and then Umbra evaporates slowly eye by eye??

  • Yep! That would be "Raid on the Shadowstar". The Orbots actually try to take out Umbra on their own, WITHOUT Rob! (They think he's going to replace them.) When Rob finds out, he teleports to where they are, but is intercepted and captured by Umbra.

  • Boy, I thought I was the only one on earth who remembered the Mighty Orbots, nice to see I ain't alone!! This had some really great animation and effects, better then most back in the day!

  • You'll never be alone true believer, cause I want our real cartoons back too. We're all in this together.

  • OMG!!! Mighty Orbots! I love the female robots - bow? and boo are they? they're so cool and sexy! And I love their nemesis....that sun/planet dude what's his name. Definitely my favorite uniting-robots-into-one right next to the Voltron lions version! Love the song too! and Ohno and that cute pilot whats-his-name

  • The bad guy's name was Lord Umbra, and the pilot is Rob.

  • Actually he was just called Umbra. The Lord part was the deference his agents showed him.

  • Nice song too! One of the best actually!

  • Bo and Boo. The villain is Umbra, and the Pilot is Rob/Orbots Commander.

Interesting bit of trivia...Sherry Alberoni, who provided Bo's voice is also better known as the voice of Alexandra on Josie & The Pussycats.

  • The list of comments on this video are like a mile long, it really seems like people love this show. makes me think that if we're never gonna get a DVD of the show then those of us who do have episodes of the show should like band together and make a torrent out of the entire series or something.

  • One of my most favorite cartoon of the 80's.

Its a real shame the show ended too quickly.

    Fantastic animation & music.

    GO MIGHTY ORBOTS!!

  • Honestly, I couldn't give a shit whether or not the DVD set is bootlegged. The coloration and use of flare effects in the animation was remarkable for its time. I suspect more hours/render-frame went into this 'cartoon' than anything else of its day. Awesome.

  • The most sublime transforming sequence I have ever seen!:)

  • Hands down my favorite cartoon as a kid, before Galaxy Rangers and Transformers...the music is awesome and the show is hilarious and well done. One of a kind.

  • This show had a movie to it in the late 80's, anyone know what it was called or even heard of it? I had seen it when I was a kid but cant remember the title of it.

  • This was a favorite show of mine when I was a kid. Pity it only lasted one season.

  • Looking at the long list of comments this video has you're not the only one who thinks so.

  • I loved Orbots because it didn't seem designed to sell toys like so much of the great wasteland of 80's animation. It was a real, bonafide CARTOON. I'm sure if it became a huge hit and didn't get swiped by the GO-BOTS legal vultures it would've produced some toys. But still, my point is Orbots had heart.

  • Yeah, that is sad, I would have bought toys from this show in a heartbeat.

There were some pics of ones that were produced, but were only prototypes.

  • Those idiots at Tonka were the ones who destroyed the Orbots. They sued the creators on the basis that the name sounded too close to their "Gobots" toyline and actually won. Another reason to hate the Gobots.

  • I agree with you..the gobots sucked hard; a plain ripoff of every robot show there ever was and i hated it with a passion. I looked forward to seeing Orbots every saturday morn

  • I really wish they would put this on DVD for release.

  • The Metal men meets GodMars

  • i loved this cartoon so much back in the days =D it has impressive music

  • Very cool! What episode was that from...I don't remember a lengthy combination/theme song sequence like that before!

  • Episode 03, Trapped on the Prehistoric Planet.

  • TMS was killing it up until the late 90s, man.

And Mighty Orbots was done so dirty...

It had some of the best animation direction and music ever.

  • OMG I LOVED the Mighty Orbots! It was only on for a few episodes. But it cought my attention.

  • thats depressing

  • It amazes me how nuts they went with foreshortening and perspective in these 80's cartoons. You don't get that anymore, only flat shit nowadays like Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends.

  • yeah I guess so, it's like anime quality

  • Well it was done by an anime studio. This is one of TMS (Tokyo Movie Shinsha)'s first television series for American Staturday mornings done in conjunction with MGM. They would go on to do series like Bionic Six, Galaxy High, Monster Rancher and anime classics like Akira and Little Nemo. TMS is also owned by Sega.

  • They also helped do the 1992 Batman cartoon which is why Big O (that TMS also did) feels like a mecha version of Batman.

  • That's an ill fact.

  • Wow, very interesting.

  • My friend, that's because western animation is becoming a dying art. The studios like WB and Disney have lost their ways. I think Marvel Studios haven't lost theirs w/ their Ultimate Avengers DTVs. Yes it's still animated overseas, but the character designs don't look anime-ish.

  • Cool vid and it still looks like the modern day stuff. What does Disney have to do with this show?

  • Got me, I have no idea who owns this show.

  • I've been to TVonDVD.coom and put in my vote for it to be released my DVD. Course there will probably be issues with the Various owners (ie TMS/ABC/Disney, etc..)

  • god I can't spell.

  • It was a BIG favorite with me.

Did anyone notice that during this part that Rob was in his civilian clothes, but did not have his glasses? (You notice it when he says, "Orbots: Unite!")

  • What I liked was the way the Orbots all come from these exotic locales to show how they come to transform, yet they were right there with Rob in the same city all along.

  • i really miss this show it was the next coolset show to the transformers

  • Do you know if its on DVD?

  • Not that I know of.

  • goto yahoo answers someone thier might know of course i have seen the vhs on sale

  • Check ebay. You can get the entire run of it on DVD.

  • That is a bootleg set though.

  • I would always talk about this show when my friends and I would talk about the cartoons we use to watch and no one knew what I was talking about. I am glad to see it again thank you

  • You're welcome.

  • You know, it was sad that this series only lasted one season. It was actually quite cool for its time.

  • Indeed.
