Dang. Why didnt I look this up FIRST? I just finished the job, and googled whether I should have siliconed the faucet to the sink. What do you think? Its a SS sink, and I just mounted it straight. Is it worth removing it all to put the putty in?
@78Revolutions Take it off and do it right. My motto is: Do it Right, not Over. Deal??
@AsktheBuilder@AsktheBuilder There was a significant, undetected leak for a few weeks. So the minor trickle that might make its way in will be of minimal concern, but Ill tend to it just the same. Thanks again for the quick replies, and I promise...Next weekend I putty it up. PS: Once I smash down the faucet and tighten it down, will the squeezed-out plumbers putty clean up with water? I've not used it before.
@AsktheBuilder Just following up, that I did remove it and use putty. I also bought a telescoping basin wrench, which I should have bought 15 years ago. Faucet was out, puttied, and back in in all of 20 minutes. Thanks again for all the help. Justin in Indianapolis.
@1800MrSingh Thanks. The reason you see dislikes is because there are Haters out there. Most are selfish and they only care about their thoughts and what's good for them. I appreciate your kind words.
Look at what you have to do before you do it! I could have saved myself a few hours of labor. Check to make sure that your sink pipes can actually reach the faucet lines. If they don't, you'll have to get extra long lines. You'll also have to get a few adapting parts to add to your lines because most of the time you can't find pipe to faucet lines that are longer than two feet. You also need plumber's tape to wrap the threads of your lines!
Can someone help me? my father and I are installing a Cordova Tuscany Pull-Down Kitchen Faucet brushed nickel finish. ( 673-6455) We can't seem to attach the neck of the faucet to the to these metal rings Im not sure of. How do we do this? Also the directions are poorly drawn and wrote so we are lost.
so this is a sort of comical situation that turned out to be quite the pain in the butt...
we were fixing a pipe under the sink because the valve had cracked and there was water everywhere... well we got the pipe fixed, now after words I discovered that the hose for the veggie spray got placed on the wrong side of the pipe so we can no longer pull it out and use it. How would i fix this? Is there a simple way I could do this?
@Izzy45856 Hah! That happened to me years ago as a young apprentice plumber. You just have to unscrew the flexible spray hose where it attaches to the underside of the faucet. It will not be easy.
i do have this one tool that works perfect woth those plastic nuts. Its a bar that had different knoches on each end of it. I think rigid make it, but its the best 20 bucks ive ever spent. its another version of the basin wrench

You can be one in the same here. It just so happens that when I was still actively building, I was a licensed master plumber here. Since I retired from active day-to-day building, I've not paid my fees to keep my plumbing license active. But I still retain all the knowledge. Well, until my mind starts to deteriorate.
Can I just ask: you had pretty big holes drilled through the counter-top where the pipes feed through - do they need to be that diameter for any reason (insulation or something?) or could they be closer to the actual pipe diameters? Thanks
Those are pretty standard hole diameters for faucets in granite tops. You don't want the holes exact for a host of reasons. The trim plates on the faucets are very forgiving. The holes are not as big as you might think. Perhaps just 3/8 inch bigger than the faucet pipe.
I appreciated the tip on installing and testing the faucet without the drain pipes installed, so as to make it easier to do the drains later. Hadn't thought of that as I redo a kitchen. The videos are clear and concise. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for posting this video! Forgive me if this has been asked before - I will be replacing a kitchen faucet, do I need to disconnect the drain pipes first or can I leave them alone? I know they are in the way - but what should a novice like me do? Thanks!

No such thing as a stupid question. Those could be heat tapes to protect the pipes from freezing in the winter. Be careful with them and inspect them as some can be fire hazards.
Had a vacation in the Philippines,in Manila where theres no real plumber.I havent seen a real plumber there when my aunt had problems with her sink coz nobody can fix it and they say that they were plumbers.Well fake plumbers in Manila I guess, a little clever clever..I hated that place.
Now THIS was a video that I needed to see for some encouragement and positive reinforcment that I can indeed to this. I replaced my bathroom faucets about 10 years ago and it was a booger. At 40 now, I'm too lazy to do this DIY stuff, but I do love a challenge. I'd rather pocket the savings from having a pro do it; so thanks for the video. Good job!!!
ahh the old delta 100 with the steal nuts and shanks....finaly someone that knows plumbing, thats great oil based plumbers putty on granite it doesnt get much better than that, but what im more confused on is you used 600wog pro channel ball valves vs. regular stops and at the same time used braided stainless supplys then to finish it off the drain was through the floor and we all know what that means...... S-TRAP
No S-trap...... You need to watch the drain video for this sink...Jaykob85, you seem to know a little about plumbing. I went to your channel and there are no videos of yourself sharing your knowledge. Instead of spending all this time making comments on other people's videos, how about investing that time making your videos so we can comment about your techniques?
I'm a plumber and wish every job was that easy! How about doing a video of taking an old faucet off? Maybe something like a Delta-100 from the 70's with rusted nuts that have to be split off.
Okay--I need to know what to do. I have black granite countertops. We bought the plumber's putty to put it on with...what should we do to get the job done TOMORROW? Do I have to worry if it is a black counter? Should I remove the existing faucet and seal it overnight? Sealing it makes it take longer time than we have. Thanks for the input!
I find that if you dab your finger in some liquid soap or shampoo and then run your finger over the silicone you avoid it sticking to you finger and making a mess.
Tim - Please do not advise your listeners to use plumbers putty on that granite counter top. Plumber's putty is oil based and will cause a horrible discoloration on your granite. Use a silicone sealant to protect the counter top.
Good advice! What I failed to say - darn it - is that I sealed the granite three times before we shot this video. That should be done no matter what sealant you use. I appreciate your comment and it always helps to have a second or third set of eyes!
Hey- I don't know much about this stuff, but I watched yourvideo on roof moss and you said the copper kills the moss. Does copper from the copper piping erode with time and get into the water?
It can. It depends on the water chemistry. Go to my website and read my past columns on Aggressive Water. In places with favorable chemistry, the copper inside the pipes gets coated with a lining of lime which prevents the loss of copper. Our bodies need a small amount of copper.
You are 100% wrong. A person with patience and one that can follow directions can do this. Tell us *why* the job can only be done by a plumber. So you know, I am a licensed master plumber. Are you afraid you might lose your job if the secrets get out?
ok they can do it but If you have an waterleak youre incurance will not cover the damages..so its a risk.. yes if people do this themself i have notting to do:)
You are 0 and 2 my friend. If a leak develops, a regular insurance policy *will* cover the damage. Using your logic, this means if a homeowner plugs in an appliance that starts a fire, the insurance company would not pay. Who ever told you that? While you are not working, you might want to enroll in some English and Communications courses at your local community college. They are deductible business expenses.
I am not sure I want to take advice from a "builder". If you want solid plumbing advice ask a certified, registered, Master Plumber. And ask for his lisence number and what county and state that lisence is in. Ask a plumber.
I went to your channel. There are no videos there. Are you a plumber? Why don't you share your knowledge? I am confused by your comment to say the least as I can't determine who you are or what you might know.
are you asking me? .. I"m no plumber.. I do sell plumbing supplies though.. I have some product knowledge.. as far as the work.. i leave that up to the plumbers..
markv33: I've been a licensed master plumber for 16 years and this method work just fine. One can tell right away that the person in this video is very experienced.
Coming from someone with absolutely NO prior plumbing experience...I 100% agree. I used this method to install a simple 3-hole setup from a basic kit bought at Lowes. I am happy to say the process was detailed enough that I completed the job in under 30 minutes with only 1 return trip to retrieve a compression adapter for my hot water supply. Thanks Tim!
Jefferyb304: I tried your idea. It didn't work with my particular faucet (Price Pfister Classic Series WK1-1) When I attached the veggie sprayer hose to the faucet, I couldn't fit everything back through the hole. Forcing it would've probably bent or broken the faucet inlets.
Uhhhhhh....... It sounds to me that you *didn't* listen to my ideas...... :-> The *first* idea was for you to read the written instructions that came with your faucet. Why do you think I said to do that?????? :-> I already knew that many faucets are different.
Uhhhhhhh....It sounds to me that you didn't read my comment. I was following "Jefferyb304's" suggestion. I never mentioned YOU. Furthermore, I DID read the written instructions. I merely decided to try something different to spare myself the awful time I had tightening the veggie sprayer hose. Turns out that it didn't work. So what? I learned something, and it only took a moment to undo my mistake.
my suggestion is to fish the hose from the veggie sprayer thru the center hole before installing the faucet. this way the installer won't be in an aquward position under the sink doing it.
Thank You! It can be tough to remember to say every little tip it each video. That is why these comments work so well when people like you leave positive and helpful words of wisdom.
That is not bad advice. The compression nuts on the braided hoses do not require much force. If you overtighten, you create a leak by crushing the rubber seal inside.
I will be redoing a kitchen. I have an Air Gap for my dishwasher on my sink. I will be installing a new sink (four hole) with vegi sprayer. I was told by people at home depot that you don't need the air gap it's only so that the drain dosen't backup into the dishwasher. I was also told you should still have it but you need to put some sort of hook and hang it up underneath the sink (higher then the dishwasher)???
Air gaps may still be a code requirement in your area. Download dishwasher instructions from manufacturer websites to see how to make the loop that gets fastened to the underside of the countertop.
Thanks for the video, sir! It's defintely very informative. I'm looking to install a granite kitchen counter like that one you have in the video, so will you be doing a video on how to install granite counter in the future?
I always wondered what that wrench my dad always had laying around was used for. Thanks!

It can. It depends on the water chemistry. Go to my website and read my past columns on Aggressive Water. In places with favorable chemistry, the copper inside the pipes gets coated with a lining of lime which prevents the loss of copper. Our bodies need a small amount of copper.

Thanks for your videos. You make the complex easy to understand, or should I say, You make what looks complex - easy.
darcytirsia 3 years ago
Thanks! Some things are complex and require great skill. This particular job is not one. If you can read instructions, you can do this one.

Tim, my faucet instructions say that I need a compression fitting. Can you tell me what it is?
daswaed1 3 years ago
I show those in this video. Each end of the flexible connection hose is a compression fitting.

only plumbers can do this job..
evjkri 3 years ago
You are 100% wrong. A person with patience and one that can follow directions can do this. Tell us *why* the job can only be done by a plumber. So you know, I am a licensed master plumber. Are you afraid you might lose your job if the secrets get out?
AsktheBuilder 3 years ago
ok they can do it but If you have an waterleak youre incurance will not cover the damages..so its a risk.. yes if people do this themself i have notting to do:)
evjkri 3 years ago
You are 0 and 2 my friend. If a leak develops, a regular insurance policy *will* cover the damage. Using your logic, this means if a homeowner plugs in an appliance that starts a fire, the insurance company would not pay. Who ever told you that? While you are not working, you might want to enroll in some English and Communications courses at your local community college. They are deductible business expenses.

insurance can be voided if certain things are not installed by ticketed pros
poohpush 3 years ago
Tell us more. What insurance? What insurance companies - name them - have this policy?
AsktheBuilder 3 years ago
Don't even respond. They sound unprofessional all on their own.

I am not sure I want to take advice from a "builder". If you want solid plumbing advice ask a certified, registered, Master Plumber. And ask for his lisence number and what county and state that lisence is in. Ask a plumber.
markv33 4 years ago
Markv33, I *am* a licensed master plumber. :-> Been one for about 22 years.
AsktheBuilder 4 years ago
so much for that theory
jzajzz 3 years ago
I went to your channel. There are no videos there. Are you a plumber? Why don't you share your knowledge? I am confused by your comment to say the least as I can't determine who you are or what you might know.
AsktheBuilder 3 years ago
are you asking me? .. I"m no plumber.. I do sell plumbing supplies though.. I have some product knowledge.. as far as the work.. i leave that up to the plumbers..
jzajzz 3 years ago
markv33: I've been a licensed master plumber for 16 years and this method work just fine. One can tell right away that the person in this video is very experienced.
domms26 3 years ago

Forcing it would've probably bent or broken the faucet inlets.
hobnoblyn 4 years ago
Uhhhhhh....... It sounds to me that you *didn't* listen to my ideas...... :-> The *first* idea was for you to read the written instructions that came with your faucet. Why do you think I said to do that?????? :-> I already knew that many faucets are different.
AsktheBuilder 4 years ago
Uhhhhhhh....It sounds to me that you didn't read my comment. I was following "Jefferyb304's" suggestion. I never mentioned YOU. Furthermore, I DID read the written instructions. I merely decided to try something different to spare myself the awful time I had tightening the veggie sprayer hose. Turns out that it didn't work. So what? I learned something, and it only took a moment to undo my mistake.
hobnoblyn 4 years ago 4
Ooooops! I apologize!!! That's what happens when you answer comments 30 minutes after waking up. Please accept my apology.
AsktheBuilder 4 years ago
That's okay. We all make mistakes.
hobnoblyn 4 years ago
my suggestion is to fish the hose from the veggie sprayer thru the center hole before installing the faucet. this way the installer won't be in an aquward position under the sink doing it.
jefferyb304 4 years ago
Thank You! It can be tough to remember to say every little tip it each video. That is why these comments work so well when people like you leave positive and helpful words of wisdom.
AsktheBuilder 4 years ago
That is not bad advice. The compression nuts on the braided hoses do not require much force. If you overtighten, you create a leak by crushing the rubber seal inside.

Another great video Tim. Keep up the excellent work. Your information is valuable to home reno's. Thanks.

I will be redoing a kitchen. I have an Air Gap for my dishwasher on my sink. I will be installing a new sink (four hole) with vegi sprayer. I was told by people at home depot that you don't need the air gap it's only so that the drain dosen't backup into the dishwasher. I was also told you should still have it but you need to put some sort of hook and hang it up underneath the sink (higher then the dishwasher)???
steppinthrax 4 years ago
Air gaps may still be a code requirement in your area. Download dishwasher instructions from manufacturer websites to see how to make the loop that gets fastened to the underside of the countertop.

Thanks for the video, sir! It's defintely very informative. I'm looking to install a granite kitchen counter like that one you have in the video, so will you be doing a video on how to install granite counter in the future?

Yes, I intend to do a granite top video.
