Tire hitting does a lot in developing striking power. If you haven't tried it before, I suggest you do. You'll see your power improve in a short time... then going against a real opponent becomes a lot more fun! :)
@Staggerlee69 yeah you're missing a great deal. Tires are tougher than your hide. Rattan sticks are very difficult to use in training follow through, if these guys had weak wrists their stick would bounce back at their faces. Shift to heavy sticks and steel batons after rattan practice and this drill is a cinch.
And umm... to FMAers pencils are a viable weapon we'd kill the sheep with that pencil.
Thanks guys. We're hoping to get some more up in the next month or so. We'll also try to get a little club-only pointers DVD together. Talk with Francis, as we'll be passing them to him when we get something together.
i smell blisters coming up ahahaha.. all good.. i got those to doing my tire drills

hi,
this is a great tool for developing endurance for your grip strength and is also good for developing timing with your footwork and power shots.
that second guy had it right, until he took a break.
I usually go for a two minute round and try different angles on my 'entry' shots. go for three to six shots then step and/or angle out.
anyhow, much respect to filipino martial arts practitioners.

Um, hitting a tyre with a stick? Am I missing something here? Ranks right up there with poking a sheep with a pencil.

Nice clip.
Ever tried motorcycle tires? They work just as well and are rounded enough to save your stick from getting torn up.
