  • That is exactly correct, I just didn't want to type that much :-)

  • sounds like the one one my uncles american lafrance firetruck

  • красава

  • Marine boat engine! what no shit I alway thaught they fitted marine engines in airships!

  • BUFFER NEEDS SET

  • @MrFrank1948

I was setting it at the end of the video, good ear!

  • That sounds awsome!

  • Almost sounds like its a gasoline engine.... none of the clackity clack of a diesel.

  • @frosty9595 cause its a 2 stroke

  • Damn those sound good on a boat when it has the exhaust pipe hooked up

  • US citizen could arrive in France without a passport with them, had to risk .323 holes. Long lived engine series, marks it's teritory.

  • ok first off theyre not called super chargers theyre called blowers. and yes u can put a turbo on them as well. also you can take a blower off of your 6-71 and put it on a 350 chevy and a 454. im a diesel mechanic and i know about detroits bc im certafied in them. i cant stand a cummins though.

  • @southrnman56 I thought they were called "iron lungs"?? lol

  • i got a parts manual for one of those things!

  • a friend of mine has two of these in his yacht. they sound like hell at 1500 rpm.

  • mmmm i love that sound, i was onboard a navel training vessel with 2 of these monsters, sadly the navel tender section put a 1800rpm limit on them... sadly...altho during man overboard or fire excersizes the engines get to scream, best sound in the world, its more then music to my ears :)

  • god thats nice

  • Bet your neighbors love you.

  • Detroit s are 2 stroke diesel engine they won't run with out the Super charger, but you can also turbo charge them.

Also the kine and V Detroit's are the only semi engine that can be revved right out 3200-3500rpm instead of the normal 2100rpm limit.

    AMX

  • Nobody in their right mind ever took one of these or any 71 seris engine to 3500 rpm.

  • @MetalTeamster we run the 12v71 in the Pull truck (sled pulls) at 4700 rpms all the time.

  • @TurbinePower69 Gee whiz, that makes my neck hair stand up just thinking about it! 4700... I can't imagine the torque being put out. I bet that doesn't get old!

  • @TurbinePower69 i will call bs on that one. we (mikes diesel, look it up on fb) only set their max at 2400 rpms bc even like that we only give a 6 month warranty bc their two stoke engines...... any size. now with that being said. a "good run" is 2 years that they will go before swinging them. not only will the engine spin the main berrings but then you would never have a warranty AND your telling me you swap them out less than once a year rebuilt/new detroits (leaktroits) costs 12000 w/the core

  • i thought that i saw a s/c on the side.

  • are these motors supercharged or turbo?? or neither?

  • They are all supercharged, that's the nature of the beast. Some are turbo charged as well.

  • @cpasseno It isn't a supercharger - it is a Blower, it does NOT create any boost. It only moves the air at normal atmospheric pressure. The engine must have it to run. A supercharger raises the pressure and compresses the air.

  • @WLSTOUT Most definetly supercharged. they would not run otherwise.....

  • @WLSTOUT This is neither supercharged or turbo charged. They have a blower which scavenges the cylinders but does NOT deliver an actual "charge" unless the timing is adjusted properly. The turbo only really aids the blower in scavenging so even with a turbo it couldn't be considered "turbo charged". But yes this engine uses a 6-71 blower, and no turbo. Some have turbos

  • @JtsGreene

ok cool thanks for the info

  • @JtsGreene When they have turbochargers, they are definitely considered 'turbocharged' as they have positive pressure in the intake tract after the turbo spools up. When they have just the roots blower, they are considered to be 'naturally aspirated' as there is no positive pressure in the intake tract. The blower simply provides air movement and exhaust scavenging....no increase in cylinder pressure.

  • I wonder about the torque difference between the inlines verses the V series. The inlines must be higher in torque and probably a lower peak rpm range too.Anyway did you put it in a boat ever?

  • Yes, it is in the boat, I have a video on here I think.

I'm gonna venture to say the inline is the exact same as the V. Still the same number of cylinders, same bore, stroke, the parts are interchangeable!

  • @pwarren1010 The inlines cranks usually last longer because you dont have two cylinders working the exact same spot.

  • sounds wonderful. have a great time that engine!

  • Actually that was the very first start, at the end I was turning the buffer screw trying to fix the lope. It lopes cold, appropriately now. Sure are amazing engines! Thanks for comment.

  • oh theres that 238 (671) Detroit "lope" when shes still cold :) this a dying sound

OLE 238 Sounds good i miss the sound of a 238 everyday esp in my granddad's 74' GMC 9500 S/A Lowboy tractor .

  • Love it. Love it. Love it!!!! What cool polka dots and cute little smiley face. Certainly gives it character! I have to say that I bet there is none like it.
