At a time when the state could use a lot of money why don't they allow ppl to base jump for a fee? Provide a helicopter and charge $25.00 per person for the ride up and $100.00 per day for the jump permit. Hell, there would be a LINE of base jumpers every day when the weather would be good.

@katyu16 a) it's not state land; is federal land- national park b) it's within a wilderness, so a helicopter couldn't legally drop people off there. Although I am for letting people jump it if they're willing to get there on foot.

They allowed it for 90 days back in the seventies. After 30 they made it illegal because the skydivers that came into town destroyed/trashed everything. They were spray painting on the rocks and taking shits on the trail and on the top of half dome.

I guess this is illegal in Yosimite. Not sure why as we have been allowed to hang glide there for decades. I fist flew off El Capitan in 1976. Instead of antagonizing the rangers we cooperated and worked with them and were able to prove we could do this activity without unacceptable risks to ourselves, to others or to the environment. We followed the rules and it has worked for 3 decades. Seem that the same would work for Base Jumping. Search "yosemite hang gliding" on YouTube or yhga.org

However if you plan and follow some safety percautions things should be in your favor minus the illegal to jump off cliffs like in national parks, state parks, etc.
