Lived in the same condo comlpex with these guys when were all at MUN. I loved their music. They played in the lounge down in the mall. Hope to see "Drinking Songs of NFLD" on a CD someday!
Just type Ryans Fancy into google and you will get all the info about the singer and the group, they were Irish immigrants into Canada. Just love this song, just lucky it wasn't me doing the counting. I think this is a slightly better version than Dermot's.
I know this song in an American version sung I think by Kate Smith. It has Nashville and railroad in place of Dartmoor and railway. Tune is a bit different too in places.
This version does not seem to blame her - the version I know says "I've counted on you, love to get me a break, I'll never forget, love, I'm here for your sake. We both know who's guilty, we both know it well. I'll rot in this jailhouse before I will tell."
Thanks for posting. It was my dads song )
