Saw these guys last night at the Magic Stick in Michigan, Brain Blade is a tank. I got to meet Daniel at the restaurant before the show and I must say he is the nicest dude ever.
@1Weckl1 I´d say it is a 26" (Ludwig btw) great playing, fantastic sound, the whole band is unfassbar... compare the size of Brian´s bass drum to my 22".. how small!! "tango - live in hamburg" :-) cheers H
I'm familiar with some of Dan Lanois' older music but never knew about Black Dub till today (hey, not bad) when I heard Dan & Neil Young together interviewed on CBC Radio's "Q" show. Neil said it was seeing & being impressed by Dan's Black Dub films that made him call up Dan about collaborating on Neil's new "Le Noise" album, & filming Neil's live performances used on the album.
Just caught the album cover for "The Beauty of Wynona" on the wall this time around. What a legacy this guy has left to the music industry. And he ain't even close to bein' done yet. Love all Lanois!
Im sitting here listening to Magnolia by JJ Cale and I found myself thinking, I wonder if Lanois could make JJ Cales Magnolia, magnificent, and then betting that he can, because Lord knows Im a vetting man. LOL I love that line. Should you take my advice Dan, and why not, have I ever steered you wrong, and Rent Hammond Castle, check-out the White House, thats where I stayed, in Magnolia. I think Black Dub could do Magnolia justice, and Crazy Mamma too, and Ill tell you why.
I think Black Dub could do Magnolia justice, and Crazy Mamma too, and heres why. Cause all you need do, is to choose one riff, and keep returning to it. Other than that, youre on your own. LOL I like that line too. Life need not be complicated.
This song is too good for words, too good to be true, so what else is new? Bring me your love - a mother's son is crying - oh, oh, yeah - Leave me alone - another son is dying... Tommy D Professor of Smozology
That drum track gave me chills! Sounded like a freight train with Lanois providing the horns. This combo wil be another solid gem in the treasure chest that is Daniel Lanois. He is the consummate songwriter, singer, musician, producer, who elevates music to such heights, very few others reach
this is the best music i have heard in years. very heartfelt and honest. they are all excellent players and musicians. i am very much looking forward to this cd when it comes out. this is reminds me of bands like Can, Gong, Faust but more real and honest. Trixie Whitley's voice is amazing, Brian's drums incredible, Daryl's bass a joy to listen to and Daniel's atmospheric guitar provides a nice layer and background to the music.
@Chrisser90 i cant give you a solid answer on that, BUT all i can say, is there are Microphones all throughout that room,...'recording' would be the only purpose.
Is het Daniel of Trixie die het lied schreef? :) Inderdaad, zolang er leven is, is er geluid, is er muziek. Heel essentiele songtekst. Bedankt, als altijd heel deugddoende energie! Liefs met een kliedertje gele verf, C.

what kind of les paul does daniel lanois play here? or is it another guitar?
vinnigevincent 2 years ago
Hard to tell because of re-issues, but it's probably an older one. It's definitely got P-90s and a Bigsby trem, though.
quehannaband 2 years ago
I believe it's a '53 Les Paul Goldtop w/ a Bigsby.
