  • it has to be said. that this girl is way too fat to be wearing such a skirt.

  • You go girl! That totally rocked!

  • (con'd) some other place where meeting a woman is the primary goal. Instead, he chooses his clothes based on what is comfortable and makes him personally happy. Why should it not be the same for a woman? Why should it be automatically assumed that I chose my clothing for any other reason than it's what *I* feel comfortable in and what *I* think makes me look pleasing TO MYSELF?

  • @PonyQueenChelle or not is irrelevant. Im sure you have more than one thing in your closet that you feel comfortable and sexy in so why a skirt? I think women look sexier in jeans or a nice dress than in a skirt because it leaves more to the imagination and its esp a turn on when a women feels like she doesn't have to wear all the "slut-wear" just to look sexy. What happened to the "lady"? What happened to unity and and togetherness rather than male vs female competition that feminism creates?

  • @wrathof No, when I said "expressing body image" I wasn't really talking about how a woman displays her body for other people, I'm talking about how a woman feels about her body, about the sense of self-worth and comfort with who she is and what she looks like OUTSIDE of what anyone else thinks. In my experience, when a man goes to get dressed, very little thought it given to how his outfit is going to be perceived by women UNLESS he is specifically dressing to go out to the club or (con'd)

  • @PonyQueenChelle Because your a women and its different because men and women think differently and thats just the way life is. Thats the problem with feminist, why does everything in life have to be completely equal? Your body is different from a mans body therefore you must treat it differently. If I like to walk around naked in the middle of the street because I feel most comfortable does it make it ok? You are a women, and unfortunately the world is there whether you feel comfortable (contd

  • @wrathof No one is suggesting that either gender walk around naked. And just because "that's the way life is" NOW doesn't mean that's how it always has to be. A large part of the goal of performances like these is to try and CHANGE the way things are currently perceived, so that women who want to wear short skirts (or whatever clothing they are personally comfortable in and happy with) can do so without it being seen as a cry for attention or attempt at seduction. You ask if it's (con'd)

  • (con'd) acceptable to go naked, and of course it isn't, but I ask the opposite: Should I have to be covered from head to toe in order to be able to go out in public without being viewed strictly as a sexual object? Yes, there are some outfits that simply shouldn't be worn in public by men OR women, I personally have no desire to see anyone's undergarments (with the possible exception of my husband), nor to show mine to anyone else. But what's at issue is where we draw the line, and WHO (con'd)

  • @wrathof (con'd2) should get to draw it. And just because I'm in favor of things being equal doesn't mean that I don't understand an accept that there are differences between the sexes. There are differences between EVERYBODY. Every man I know has a different set of talents, skills and abilities than any other man has, and yet they don't seem to have a problem treating one another as equals, so I don't see why we can't have that same sense of equality between our genders.

  • @PonyQueenChelle tl;dr. no one gives a shit.

  • @Synith Scintillating contribution, but please, don't let me keep you from all the other important messages you have to not read.

  • @PonyQueenChelle Such as your prattle with the 'so-called' feminine intellect; your counter statement is apt to its milieu. Debunked, madam.

  • @Synith So nice to know that my statement is appropriate for it's surroundings. What on earth is an intellectual (or at least ostentatiously verbose individual) such as yourself doing slumming on YouTube?

  • contd. therefore if are ok showing your body (esp in a mini skirt) to every man that walks by you are a slut. There is no way you can be publicly sexual (in a physical way) and not be a slut. Imean jeez have some values and self control. I am all for women being strong n all that but where is the line that you shouldn't cross? there isn't one. and that is exactly why grinding your ass all over some guys penis is now called "dancing". feminism WAS ok but now its just another excuse to be slutty.

  • @wrathof

"There is no way you can be publicly sexual (in a physical way) and not be a slut."

I think this argument is kinda the point of the monologue... people make this (WRONG) assumption, and it should be challenged. And I think the girl in the video did it very well!

  • (con'd) in my life, I'm happily in what would be called a "traditional" relationship, and if I am a "feminist" I'm probably the worst one on earth. I'm happy being the "hearthkeeper" and letting my husband be the "breadwinner/protector." At the same time, I don't think that my relationship or how I define my "femininity" has to be or would be right for anyone else, which is why I support women who take on more "feminist" seeming roles.

  • @wrathof I'm not sure I can completely agree that we live in a "sexplotational feminist culture," although I have to admit that it's only the "feminist" part of that I have a disagreement with. Overall, I think we live in a culture that exploits sexuality regardless of gender, and that applying the "feminist" label to any female expressing positive body image or sexuality in a positive, self-empowered way only adds to the problem. Personally, (con'd)

  • @wrathof "Faminist"? Is that pro-family or pro-famine? Unsurprisingly, your entire comment misses the point of the piece (i.e. that what we wear isn't an excuse for rape or sexual harassment), but then, I'm sure that's deliberate, and that nothing I can say will change your mind. I do find a certain amount of...irony in the fact that, while designed to detract from the performance, only emphasize the need for women to speak out.

  • Your short skirt indicates how much of a slut you are. the shorter the sluttier lol.

  • she was fierce. Makes me wanna rethink my delivery for my performance next week

  • I CAN'T HEAR A WORD SHE IS SAYING!!!!!!

  • I love this! She did amazingly!

  • my sister had homework on it and she was to indolent to read it herself she thank the girl who did it for her lol

  • preach it, girl!

  • And that's why I often say "People HURT me." Anyway, kudos again to your sister. I've seen the Vagina Monologues performed several times, and I don't think I've ever seen a better performance of "My Short Skirt" than hers.

  • wow, she did amazing!

  • You said it girl!

  • this is awesome i can't believe your school did this play! great acting

  • Oh my gosh, what an inspirational performance! This is the best I've ever seen this done and I've see the Vagina Monologues many times. Not only was the actress feeling it, but the audience clearly was as well and the message was presented out very effectively and clearly. This is exactly what the Vagina Monologues is all about and I am so glad someone was able to perform one of the monologues so well. I hope that other actresses take note of how passionate you should be about the role you get.

  • alright!!! love it.

  • OKAY OKAY i see u. u should see if she'll let me have a copy of that speech... it's great
