  • how do you wire a wall control if you didnt have one ever before, is it hard?

  • @christopherszotyori4 You generally would wire the wall switch just like you would for a ceiling light fixture wall switch. Bring one set of wires into the wall switch location then from there, take a set of wires on up to the ceiling fan. It's not very difficult. If you have more questions, let me know. Joe :0

  • Turns out the white wire at the wall switch is the hot one, the black is not. On the current wall switch we connected the white to one post and the black to another which made the fan run only. I am thinking that the new switch needs to be black to white and white to black with the green to the copper, is that correct? Thank you :)

  • @ArlTam They installed the white wire as the hot coming into the box & the black wire goes back up & powers the ceiling fan when you turn the fan switch on. Your existing switch just powers the fan.

What do you want the new switch to do?....power the fan & a light kit? You have to do something else for that. Let me know what you want the new switch to do. Thanks for getting back to me. Joe :0

  • Thanks for getting back to me. We originally had a light switch on the wall for the ceiling fan light only. The fan was run by pulling the chain only. The wall switch has one black, one white and one copper only. The wall ceiling fan/light switch we want to put in has 2 blacks and a green. I believe it is a Minka WC212 but it came with the fan I did not buy it separately, visually it looks like that model.

    Thank you. Arlene

  • @ArlTam Have you removed the existing fan switch yet? Was the white wire connected to the fan switch from before? They might have wired the box where the main power is at the ceing fan location at the ceiling then dropping down the wires to the fan switch. In that case the white wire is being used as a hot (black) wire. Connect the black & white wires to the side screws on the fan switch & the switch should have a green screw that you attach the ground wire to. Is this your case? Joe :0

  • What to do if there is a white coming from the wall box?

  • @ArlTam All the whites wires in your outlet box should be connected under a separate wire nut & pushed back into your box "without" connecting to the actual switch you are installing. How many white wires are in your box? Why are you making it sound like there is only one white wire in the actual junction box? Weren't all the white wires connected to a wirenut in the box, when you removed the existing fan switch? Joe :0

  • thx for the instructional vid

btw what kind of software did you use to stabilize the video?

  • @kukine You're welcome. I used "picture motion browser" & used the "movie tracer" mode. I initially saved alot of my video clips in that form before I decided to start doing most of my video clips in the standard form....without the picture frame moving around. Hope you're learning a few things while viewing my videos. Keep watching! Joe :0
