Jake Shields is excellent fighter, no doubt. But his fight against GSP was a true loss. GSP was not hungry, he focused on not loosing the belt and his fights might seem "boring". But look at the fight from a different angle. Jake Sields, said to be a superior ground fighter and BJJ master, was not able to get GSP on the ground. In fact he was helpless during whole fight.
The problem is GSP dosent finish fights like he used to and his stricking isnt as say as much now its just wrestle and thats it I would like to see him knock out his next opponent which i think he is capable of doing but I guess it would be the safe way which is a smart way as well
True definition of a champ... @killer475 you only look at "finish" fights, gsp has finished BJ penn, Hughes(twice), Serra, all former champions. look at recent ones Koscheck was so close to getting stopped for his orbital being broken, Hardy.. if you watched that you know how tough hardy really is because his arm was messed up! Anderson does finish alot of people but minus rich, and forest not many former champs. plus he struggles a lot with wrestlers(Sonnen) I agree GSP is the best
@NightRyder101 thats your opinion and its good because all three of those fighters are Dominant. only think i see is the difference is competition. I see the WW as stacked, as well as the LHW but MW not as much as the other two. Bones has come out recently and just dropping people. I think he will beat rashad no problem. Silva i think will have loads of trouble with sonnen again, dont know who i am picking. GSP i think will have another good fight vs Condit and re-unify the belts.
@NightRyder101 yeah he didnt fight bisping very well at all. but he did have silva beat last time until Silva hit that triangle. To be honest i want to see if silva was really "just trying to submit him" or is sonnen was really beating him. I cant wait for it
Bloody Elbow: " Shields did what Koscheck, Fitch and Alves all failed to do-he took two rounds from the champ. Credit Shields with fighting a great fight, he flustered GSP throughout the bout. Shields frustrated GSP, despite his awkward standup, he threw the champs timing off.
Shields did more than anyone in a long time-he made GSP look bad and that's saying a helluva lot.

Shields did more than anyone in a long time-he made GSP look bad and that's saying a helluva lot.
The last time a champ walked out hurt after losing the final rounds to a challenger, Shogun got an immediate rematch."
@crazyriders83 I read that Shields game plan came from watching GSP fights. GSP would always jab & move, but 3-4 times per round he would exchange 8-9 punches before moving out.
Shields plan was to take him down during an exchange even if he had to eat a punch he has a proven beard. But St Pierre was all jab & run. Somewhere in the 3rd Shields threw his plan away & started to bang. He won the fight from that point on.
He badly wants a rematch, feels he waited to long to bring the pressure.
I agree with everything you said except for the idea that Shields won rounds 3, 4, and 5. I gave Shields the 4th round when I watched the fight. Otherwise, I had it all going to St. Pierre.
@crazyriders83 Thank you for agreeing with me on most of my post. I didn't say Shields won rounds 3-4-5. I said he got going in the 3rd and won the 4th and 5th which I believe you agreed with. I also thought he was close in the first round, he landed more strikes and was more aggressive.
@crazyriders83 Shields didn't plan to strike with GSP. Though you are right he almost pulled it off with 48-47 finish. As you say Shields does not have Silva's striking, his is "awkward but effective" but both Shields & St Pierre would put Silva on his back.
Shields would be a favorite (in my mind) would gladly bet into +5. Shields is a great grappler, footage of him schooling training partners, Sonnen, Munoz, Fitch etc.. GSP has good wrestling, grappling is Shields, Silva might trap GSP.
If Shields didn't plan to strike with GSP, then he must have given up on his gameplan pretty quick. From what I can remember of that fight Shields didn't try to take GSP down many times.
Silva would eat Shields alive if Shields fought the way he did against GSP (just hanging on the outside looking to strike). But honestly most fighters who face GSP abandon their gameplans quickly. He's just really really good. I could see GSP beating Silva if he could tire him out early.
@crazyriders83 The dude below explained this well. Shields camp based on GSP's other fights thought that St Pierre would engage in exchanges a couple time per round.
Georges usually jabs and moves, then at points during each round he goes for combinations. In this fight it was jab and run and never trade shots because they didn't want to risk a Shields take down.
In the 3rd Shields finally figured that GSP was not going to exchange and he started being more aggressive and won the last 2 round
@crazyriders83 Yeah the judges who had it 48-47 were Doc Hamilton and Richard Bertran two of the best in the game. Check the other judge by googling ' MMA judge Doug Crosby' Pages and pages of the worst judge in MMA, make's Cecil Peoples look good etc. Joe Rogan said " He gives all the rounds to the favorite, unless they are black." So yeah nuts.
@yadunnojack we'll see soon, hopefully there is one. would make sense too, since it's a great re match and forrest is one of the hardest training fighters in the ufc,
Bloody Elbow: " Shields did what Koscheck, Fitch and Alves all failed to do-he took two rounds from the champ. Credit Shields with fighting a great fight, he flustered GSP throughout the bout. Shields frustrated GSP, despite his awkward standup, he threw the champs timing off.
Shields did more than anyone in a long time-he made GSP look bad and that's saying a helluva lot.
The last time a champ walked out hurt after losing the final rounds to a challenger, Shogun got an immediate rematch."
Georges St Pierre " To answer the question from earlier this week: the most skilled opponent I've faced so far was Jake Shields. He did some very subtle and efficient things that you don't see other fighters doing."
GSP said it this week on his facebook site.
He said three weeks ago. " Shields was the only fighter to ever hurt me, injure me. I was knocked out by Serra, but he caught me with a good shot, that was that. Shields worked on me in ways that were new, not familiar "
Jake Shields did a great job against St Pierre, as one site put it, "St Pierre's face told the story, the last time a champ walked out hurt after losing the final rounds the challenger got an immediate rematch" That was UFC 104, Machida vs Shogun.
Bloody Elbow: " Shields did something Koscheck, Fitch and Alves all failed to do--he took two rounds from the champ and ended his 30 round win streak. GSP was visibly more damaged than Shields. The challenger ended the with an unmarked face, the champion left the Octagon with a bloody nose and a swollen eye.
Shields did more than anyone in a long time--he made GSP look bad and that's saying a helluva lot."
ESPN: Shields landed stiff jabs & right crosses, his striking was better than advertised
The most strange fight ever. GSP tried to copy henderson with that huge right he was throwing, and Shields looked like a scared puppy. I've litterally never seen ANY fighter do less than jake shields did in that "fight".
@Fizzwut GSP was running the whole fight. Post fight interview he said " The plan was to stay as far away from Shields as possible to avoid his take downs. Shields had much better striking than I thought he would and I really couldn't land anything."
MMAdvantage: " St Pierre's face told the story, although awkward Shields stand up striking is effective." In Robbie Lawler post fight interview he says " Shields looks awkward but he lands solid body kicks & he ain't afraid to trade leather."
St Pierre's plan to stay away from Shields to avoid his takedowns sounds like a good idea.
To quote more from the ESPN article; " Jake Shields striking was better than advertised." As Robbie Lawler said after he fought Shields " he looks awkward but lands solid body kicks and he ain't afraid to trade leather." He tired of following GSP around to trade a couple strikes & follow again. Shields stopped & waved GSP in, he changed & became the aggressor after that doing damage & winning rounds.
Jake Shields did a good job in this fight. GSP's plan of stay far enough away to make takedowns very difficult make's sense on paper, but it made him look as if he was afraid of Shields.
Shields didn't panic or shoot endlessly from outside, he just kept coming forward and throwing punches that began to find a home more and more often.
The result was Shields became the aggressor winning the latter rounds and causing damage, as he waved GSP in to make a fight of it, he made a new fan.
@13seven13 St Pierre dominated the fight Knocked Shields down 4 times and toke him down 3 times after round 21 he only had one eye because an accidental scratch on the eyeball GSP won the first 3 round Shields wo rnd 4 and rnd 5 was a tie. It's just all the GSP haters who say OH GSP don't finish fights DAWWWW! GSP fights the best comp.every time and he always fights 5 rounds that's why
How can people dislike GSP? Really? Because he doesn't finish fights? That's annoying when ppl shit on GSP n say all he does is lay on guys that's absolute bullshit. That's his style so what if he isn't a finisher everytime out if you truly respect martial arts/MMA you should have nothing but respect for GSP and if you want to learn something about MMA ...GSP is the guy to watch. His striking is crisp, his wrestling and jiu jitsu is good too. His training vids also are helpful.
ESPN Bloodied George St Pierre Decisions Jake Shields
"St. Pierre did not escape unscathed. Shields landed stiff jabs and right crosses, at times almost at will. One of them left St. Pierre with damage to his left eye."
My point is there was no poke, just damage from a well placed jab. I don't know if you wrote before or after the Toronto Commission issued their report. You ask the point, so I assume before.
@UFCtheiceman It was the small knuckle of Shields left jab, went right in the eye, in the last couple minutes of the 3rd round. Both the Commission & the UFC did frame by frame reviews of the fight. Georges doctor said it was bleeding behind the eye, trauma, no scratches to the outer protective layers of the eye.
The damage to the nose came from a right cross in the 4th.
If you want to do what the commission did you can if you own a DVD player, most slow to 30 frames per second, very slow.
Where the fuck have u been for the last four years gsp owns this fucking division do u really think Diaz can come in n beat him...shit GSP would fuck his shit up in the first round without a hassle

I wish GSP would retire so he could start training fighters.

Jake Shields did a great job against St Pierre, as one site put it, "St Pierre's face told the story, the last time a champ walked out hurt after losing the final rounds the challenger got an immediate rematch" That was UFC 104, Machida vs Shogun.

Fuxk Jake shields..gsp is the man...yeah he lays and prays but thats his game plan so until someone beats him stfu!!
LelandnSonya4eva 7 months ago

Yamasuba 7 months ago

Fizzwut 8 months ago
@Fizzwut GSP was running the whole fight. Post fight interview he said " The plan was to stay as far away from Shields as possible to avoid his take downs. Shields had much better striking than I thought he would and I really couldn't land anything."
MMAdvantage: " St Pierre's face told the story, although awkward Shields stand up striking is effective." In Robbie Lawler post fight interview he says " Shields looks awkward but he lands solid body kicks & he ain't afraid to trade leather."
tanglestrangle 8 months ago 8
Is that Jale Shields or Ryan Reynolds?
thejokeriscool55 8 months ago
St Pierre's plan to stay away from Shields to avoid his takedowns sounds like a good idea.
To quote more from the ESPN article; " Jake Shields striking was better than advertised." As Robbie Lawler said after he fought Shields " he looks awkward but lands solid body kicks and he ain't afraid to trade leather." He tired of following GSP around to trade a couple strikes & follow again. Shields stopped & waved GSP in, he changed & became the aggressor after that doing damage & winning rounds.

I am gayer than the day is long...a very proud carpet muncher...but I'd go straight for 15mins for gsp, no bullshit that dude is that awesome

13seven13 8 months ago 22
@13seven13 Here's the thing though, he didn't win the latter rounds. It was a unanimous decision.

@13seven13 u must be kidding me 1 trick poney and zero athletic ability
stickitupyourasteric 6 months ago
@13seven13 St Pierre dominated the fight Knocked Shields down 4 times and toke him down 3 times after round 21 he only had one eye because an accidental scratch on the eyeball GSP won the first 3 round Shields wo rnd 4 and rnd 5 was a tie. It's just all the GSP haters who say OH GSP don't finish fights DAWWWW! GSP fights the best comp.every time and he always fights 5 rounds that's why

@13seven13 He poked GSP. Its on Youtube. Look for it. and if you defend Sheilds after watching the video than what meds are you on
KingShaikh88 6 months ago

You ask the point, so I assume before.
mixmaster2669 8 months ago 17
@UFCtheiceman It was the small knuckle of Shields left jab, went right in the eye, in the last couple minutes of the 3rd round. Both the Commission & the UFC did frame by frame reviews of the fight. Georges doctor said it was bleeding behind the eye, trauma, no scratches to the outer protective layers of the eye.
The damage to the nose came from a right cross in the 4th.
If you want to do what the commission did you can if you own a DVD player, most slow to 30 frames per second, very slow.
mixmaster2669 8 months ago 12
LOL at 10:18. Really? Then what the fuck stopped you after you landed that headkick?
