do any of you guys notice how pokemons become really really dark with alot of it's pokemon...i mean...one of the gen 5 pokemon is a HUMAN SOUL that carries it's face around and cries when it looks at it...
Oh, and as for cheating trainers, I kinda just dismissed it as Pokemon responding differently to different trainers and/or training methods.
Why all the player characters have their Pokemon all evolve in the same ways, however... They're all essentially the same character when you're playing as them?
Given the rematches you can have with the leaders in some of the games, it seems to be implied that the leaders choose their Pokemon based on how skilled you are, which would explain why they get harder as you collect badges and why the easiest ones suddenly become as tough as the Elite Four when you fight them again.
Why the non-gym trainers and wild Pokemon suddenly get stronger as you get farther away from home... uh... Game logic?
the new physical/special split for moves was probably necessary because it allowed pokemon in the wrong stat wrong type situation to shine. one example is sneasle which had decent stats but not placed properly because since it was a dark and ice type, it could only get a STAB for special attacks and it lacked a strong special attack stat. now with the new physical/special split, sneasle was given the chance to get a STAB from physical type moves. sorry if sneasle's spelt wrong
By the way, you CAN trade over an emulator if it's VBA. Just save state and open a new file. Then you can trade with yourself...It helped for emerald for me.
If Silph Scopes are standard issue (as in everyone has one) Then shouldn't your character's mom have enough money to get more than a two bedroom house with only a kitchen and dining room besides the bedroom?
We can pretend that Falkner's dad caught a level 7 Pidgeotto in Viridian Forest in Pokémon Yellow, then used the Time Machine to send it to Crystal. Then he gave it to Falkner.
I seriously call shenannigans on the fight with Falkner. He has a Pidgey and Pidgeotto that can use Mud Slap against Fire types and he pretty much metagames against Bug and Grass type. In short, Totodile is your best bet for Falkner.
I agree, the series desperately needed the shift from type-based connections to stats to being unique to the individual moves. What's the point of Fire/Ice/Thunder Punch if they aren't going to be physical so your Hitmonchan can't have a chance at taking advantage of them?
The Physical/Special split was the best thing to happen to the series. Physical-based Pokemon that were Special types could finally use their STAB effectively (Gyarados with Waterfall, Eelctabuzz with Thunderpunch), Special-based Pokemon that were Physical types could use their STAB effectively (Lunatone with Ancient Power, Venomoth with Signal Beam and Sludge Bomb), and contact moves were fully defined.
"Changed it for some reason"? You spent two minutes explaining why Shadow Ball sucked because Ghost was physical and all Ghosts were special-oriented. Shadow Ball becoming Special was the best thing to happen to 90% of Ghost Pokemon.
@GoGojiraGo Don't put words in my mouth. Shadow Ball isn't a great move on most Ghost Pokemon in Gen 2/3, but it is a great move for tons of other Pokemon; those who have the Attack stat to use it well became Psychic/Ghost destroyers. Sure Gengar can use Shadow Ball well now, but so can Alakazam. They didn't need that sort of power; they were good enough already.
@BrainScratchComms It helped with balance and countering. Special-oriented Psychics and Normals can fight Ghosts more effectively with a Special Shadow Ball. Physical Pokemon got Shadow Sneak, Shadow Punch, Shadow Claw, and Shadow Force to play with. In return Special Ghosts got moves like Focus Blast and Flash Cannon.
And I wasn't putting anything in your mouth, if I misheard I apologize.
@GoGojiraGo To add onto this, the physical/special split also works better than the previous system because it allows for more types of Pokemon and moves to be made. Plus, given the EV system, the split makes choosing moves a hell of a lot easier than it was in the past, and many formerly crappy-average Pokemon became a lot better because of it.
Some Pokemon, like Flareon, still suck, though. Even after the split, it still lacks any good physical STAB moves and is incredibly slow.
@BrainScratchComms Same-type as attack bonus. that is all. plus, would i really need to use physical energy to shoot a beam from my mouth or special energy to bite something?
@ExandShadow fair enough. but still, i like the fact that feraligatr can use waterfall and it counts towards its highest stat, but i can understand where you're coming from.
if i get rid of return and replace it with fire blast on my typhlosion then i wont stand a chance against pokemon with the ability... flash fire i think it was, because all of it's attacks would be fire type
Well, considering that Falkner uses his dad's Pokemon, it's not unreasonable that his dad went to Kanto at some point. The problem still remains that underleveled Pidgeotto were only available in Yellow but thankfully the series uses a time machine so there's that fixed as well. Lance on the other hand has only had a legal team once, in FireRed/LeafGreen.
So either he went to a region to catch an otherwise unobtainable bird pokemon, making him cheap, or he's just a hacker. Either way Falkner is being stupid, cheating bastard. At least he's not quite as egregious as a certain Dragon master we'll be seeing later.
(Prepare for pokemon over-thought) The way I see it, if you start off in another town, and you go to the first gym, they would check how many badges you have, then use pokemon of according levels.
@AgeOfPwn Yes Solaris is indeed named after a Sonic 06 boss, but they did intended it to be SolarisParadox, they were not reffering to the the Sonic 06 boss. As a matter of fact, you can obviously see that Exand is naming Pokemon after other friends like, Naryman214.... You know the guy who's talking with the deep voice.
@MikeyS9607 It's not supposed to be "threatening". Where do people go to train and work out? A gym. In Pokemon there are gyms for training your Pokemon.
I disagree that the physical/special divide made the game unbalanced. If anything, it makes more sense that the attack itself deals physical damage or not.

Unova had the best Elite Four battle theme, with Hoenn slightly behind.
I think Unova definitely has the best Gym Leader battle music.
Team wise, Plasma and Cipher's (both Colosseum and XD), followed by Galactic's. N had my favorite leader battle theme, followed by Cyrus.
As for champions, Blue and Lance/Red's themes tie, then Cynthia's.
Steven and Cynthia had my favorite encounter themes.
