I have to agree with GatorReels, I found it very off-putting when the Katara character kept referring to Aang as Ong, even Aang himself pronounced his name as Ong a few times
The originators of the animated series are American and they chose the pronunciations of the names for that (Aa-ng, sock-ah etc),
they had a fair bit of input in the movie, I wonder why they didn't insist that the names stayed the same as the animation?
the whole "O" instead of "A" Americanism just sounds weird to me
ok realy!? i need someone who agrees with me in the cartoon avatar: the last airbender aang is tall and skiny go back to 0:11 in the video and look at how friken short and fat he is i think this kid iss a baaaad guy to play the roll of aang.
@HatroVille I've almost lost all hope for this movie. What could possibly be the reasoning behind changing the names? What the hell is shyamalamadingdong thinking?
I read the interview LONG TIME AGO, I think he menstioned something like
"The cartoon had it wrong, they prounced it like that because it will be easier for the english speaking kids to pronounce the name"
So basically, he thinks the cartoon's pronounciation was wrong because the producer of the cartoon wanted kids to catch up the name easily... M.Night says the "real" pronounciation should Soaka, Aung, E-roh.
That's a pretty lame excuse for him to change the characters names. I could care less if that's how they names were supposed to be pronounced before the show started. The pronunciations used after the show started, are what fans are familiar with, and when the key audience for the film is probably going to be the fans of the show, It seems like an unwise move to shift what they're familiar with.
it's as if when they filmed in Greenland they picked up the stupid accent
Uvaataaar
Uung
Soak-a
E-Row
WTF

@sokkacool Unfortunately the way they pronounce it in the movie is Soak-a. And Aang is pronounced Ong, and Iroh is pronounced Eroh. This sucks!!
