The 27 man roster as of now is Carmelo Anthony, Carlos Boozer, Chris Bosh, Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard, LeBron James, Chris Paul, Dwayne Wade, Deron Williams, Lamar Odom, Amar'e Stoudemire, LaMarcus Aldridge, Chauncey Billups, Kevin Durant, Rudy Gay, Eric Gordon, Danny Granger, Andre Iguodala, Al Jefferson, David Lee, Brook Lopez, Kevin Love, O.J. Mayo, Kendrick Perkins, Derrick Rose, Gerald Wallace, and Russell Westbrook. A smaller group will be selected are expected to be selected in July.
Saddly, a lot of those players could be off the team in 2012.
Lebron, Melo, D-Wade, Kobe, Dwigt Howard, and Bosh are all questionable depending on whether they play in the upcoming FIBA tournament or not. I wouldn't blame them at all if they opted not to, but they would lose eligibility in 2012 if they didn't play. Hopefully the rule will be changed though. I'd hate to see them ruled out after all that they've done.
aaaaand dumb. Its kind of insensitive for you to separate American ball players by race and assume they would have any less pride in their country than any whitey (waves hand).
Well, yeah it's part propaganda but it's also to boost national pride and self-worth. The 2004 US team could have benefited from this plus being more committed instead of thinking about endorsements. Instead, 2004 US team already got a coach telling them they're gonna lose. Every country, every Olympians have a sense of national pride. China have done multiple seminars on this for their athletes, why can't the US do the same.
wow i see a lot of ppl arent gettin the point of this series. i believe this started pre-olympics. And there is a lot of pride for ones country goin into any event an individual participates in. Maybe other countries dont do documentaries like this(i doubt it). But man I'm from China but been livin in America my much of my whole life. I gotta say, its only in America where you get that feelin that its a country of opportunity of a new life. (At least for the families who came voluntarily.)
I think the irony of the coaches showing the players Ellis Island doesnt mean shit, most of our black ancerstors came to America in slave ships and never knew what liberty was. this bullshit is propaganda, but I wish those brothers well, you cant coach real talent and they all have it.
I mean come on man. These guys just feel good to represent their country. If you actually get to represent your country, you'll know how it feels. And they say they'll win 100%.They just have confidence and want to bring back the gold to USA.
the coach just repeats himself all the time, this is for usa, these guys are patriotic, the plays just keep saying its great to play for your country, it gets pretty boring...
sarunas jasikevicius was usless in the NBA but is one a premier international player because of his perimeter set shot. His talent lies in finding gaps on the perimeter, grey areas where peoples closeout responsibilities can be confusing. when he was guarded 1 on 1 like in the NBA he got slaughtered. these guys are brilliant against 1 on 1 but against matchup zones and static zone its going to be hard on this group, not unlike it has been for the last 6 years.
@michalus yeah, it just shows Kobe's irrational Jordan obssession. make the most of 24/hrs day = #24..na kob..mo like 24 = 1 more than jordan's # how you tryin to outdo jordan at every turn.
well michael redd and kobe can shoot. this team doesn't look like much defensively and if they don't stop the International teams from scoring they will be able to establish their zones pretty easy. They are gonna have to improve a lot defensively to convince me that they will win this thing. I personally would have loved it if they just sent a great defensive outfit that redefined getting stops. Guys like Bowen were touted when the team was getting built but no one like that actually made it.
where is the pressure when you call a sub? Look your misunderstanding me. I think that the US basketball players are the best in the world. But if you don't put defense first and transition second then you are going to have to play in the half court against zones. and against static zones like the ones played by international teams penetration and post scoring is negated. post passing and perimeter shooting is prefered and set shooters are paramount.

2012 Team Should be:
PG: Chris Paul, D Williams, Tyreke Evans
SG: Kobe, Wade, Brandon Roy
SF: Lebron, Kevin Durant
PF: Carmelo, Chris Bosh
C: Dwight Howard, Andrew Bynum
Maybe we should add another elite wing defender but this would be my squad. What do ya'll thinK? America = gold medal 2012
